John-M 0 Posted November 6, 2007 I'd be very gratefull if anyone with a late (94/95) VR with standard gear ratios and standard wheels/tyres would post the following details for me, please :- Speedo reading at 1,000 rpm in 5th Speedo reading at 1,500 rpm in 5th Speedo reading at 2,000 rpm in 5th Speedo reading at 2.5000 rpm in 5th and any greater rpm figures you are able to get - om private roads of course !! In case you are wondering why, my indicated speed at 2,000 rpm is NOT twice that at 1,000 and there seems to be some inconsistencies :( Most puzzling - any observations welcome. Does anyone know what the speed per 1,000 in 5th is 'supposed' to be ? J
Critical_Mass 10 Posted November 6, 2007 Tell me im wrong, but you cant do 1000rpm in 5th can you?
John-M 0 Posted November 7, 2007 Yes I can. The 24V engine seems more flexible low down. But it has replacement instruments and I'm not completely sure about their accuracy, hence the request for other forum menbers' readings. Can anyone post their readings, please ? Critical_Mass 10 Posted November 8, 2007 Ill let you know later, not sure i can do the 1000rpm in 5th though - not with a VR.
John-M 0 Posted November 8, 2007 OK, ta. Any of the others will do fine - anything at 500 rpm bounderies will be useful
mic_VR 3 Posted November 8, 2007 If I move my car later I'll have a look to see what the speeds are I'm getting at the various RPM's. The main problem you're likely to find is that most speedos are not 100% accurate, mine is about 3-4% out out different speeds (checked with Sat-Nav) but to give you a starting point I happen to know (don't ask me how! ) that if you've got a standard VR gearbox and standard wheels you should be doing 70mph at 3100rpm. Jim Bowen 1 Posted November 8, 2007 just been out in car, 1995 VR6, totally standard 153,000miles 1000rpm = 26mph 1500rpm = 37mph 2000rpm = 49mph 2500rpm = 60mph bang-on! 3000rpm = 72mph thats all i could remember as i didn't have a pen

John-M 0 Posted November 9, 2007 Thanks for the posts. I'll double check my readings and post them so you can see why I'm a wee bit concerned that something aint right :(
Yandards 0 Posted November 9, 2007 Thanks for the posts. I'll double check my readings and post them so you can see why I'm a wee bit concerned that something aint right :( Feed the gearbox ratios into the wiki article here to see what you should be getting. Calculator is at bottom of article.
