VR-OOM 0 Posted February 6, 2008 Hi Guys, I'm after a set of coilovers, I've trawled the forum and read the majority of posts regarding coilovers and I've seen that you guys have quite a selection of brands fitted so I've narrowed my choice down to either FK Konigsports or a set of Konis so I'm now looking to you guys for comments/recommendations on either. Cheers James
BAZ C 0 Posted February 7, 2008 the fk konigsports use koni adjustable damper inserts in them if that helps any!! iv sold loads of konigsports and never had any complaints
Furkz 0 Posted February 7, 2008 would go koni all day long, they are more comfortable and fully tested and dont seize, whereas the FK's need the slightest excuse to seize up
junkie 0 Posted February 7, 2008 Is that still true with the silverline option as i have those and was thinking of adjusting them.
Supercharged 2 Posted February 8, 2008 Got to agree with the Furks - my 4 year old FK's look awful and are starting to worry me with Riley recently breaking one of the anodised rings... They are better than the sub £500 coilovers and give good ride quality but at the end of the day, most of what FK produce is cheap tat... I think I will try KW's or Weitec maybe next time... too hot 0 Posted February 8, 2008 I have had both on cars in the past. Currently my MKIV GTI is running the KW Konigsports,I find them harsh in comparision to the Koni coilovers I had on my green Corrado VR6. (Cazzas car now) Obviously the Golf is a different car to the Corrado but overall I wouldn`t have KW again! I think it`s worth spending the extra and going for Konis :)
junkie 0 Posted February 8, 2008 Which are you referring to mate KW or FK as FK make the Konigsports not KW and KW are highly reccomended from what i hear. I have FK boneshakers
chazrad 0 Posted February 17, 2008 I have the KW Variant 1s and they're great. I spoke with a specialist and he recommended them - as a number of people on here will do - as the best make available on the market at the moment. By all accounts the quality of Koni coilovers has deteriorated over the last couple of years and a number of people have had problems with them. I was warned off the FKs too, as they seize. So there you are. If I were you, I'd look at KWs. If I did it again, I'd probably spend a little more, and go for the KW Variant 2s just so I've got the ability to adjust the damping if I ever felt the need to. junkie 0 Posted February 17, 2008 Its all well them setting it up to how they like it and it will be spot on for a month or two but i guarantee you at some point you will be tweaking them cos you know you can, thats when the fun starts, changed mine so much, got it wrong then better then completely wrong then spot or so i thought, thought i could get it better, er no screwed it up again, finally happy with the handling and comfort, but then im changing other stuff soon so will all need doing again. _leon_ 0 Posted May 5, 2008 Get the variant 3's - adjusting the suspension isn't as difficult as you think. Some understanding of what you're doing and then trialling your changes will give you a good idea. IMO best way to get the most out of the setup is to sign up for a track day - and spend the day adjusting till it works just right. You can soften the ride when getting back on the road - note what you've done down on paper and you can go from there.
Sandy 0 Posted May 5, 2008 Hello I've had koni coilovers on my G60 for 5 years. One of the seals went on one of the back struts around two years. Koni replaced the whole suspension (all struts) for free all they asked was the old one
boost monkey 0 Posted May 5, 2008 Any coilovers which don't have anodised threads (like proper race cars do) are prone to rusting and seizing. I know what our Lambo runs, but I probably shouldn't say in case there's a spy in our midst!
