will.s 0 Posted October 22, 2008 i need to remove the head on a VR6 to inspect a cylinder becouse its only firing on 5 cylinders. does anyone have any advise on this for me or does anyone strongly advise against it?? thanks :)
jamminvr6storm 0 Posted October 22, 2008 What tests have you carried out so far... ? I would advise that removal of the head should only be when you have tried everything else first.
AlgarveVR6 0 Posted October 22, 2008 yeah, don't do it unless you have too. Immediate 100 bucks plus bill for head gasket and new head bolts. Try everything else first.
will.s 0 Posted October 22, 2008 i have tried: new plugs new ht leads new MAF new lambda new ISV what else may be the problem?? also the plug nearest to the air box (i think its number 6) has oil on it! :( thanks :) will
zak 0 Posted October 22, 2008 have you done a compression test on it? That will identify if any of the cylinders are losing pressure!
will.s 0 Posted October 22, 2008 no i haven't how would i do that?
CorradoVR6-Turbo 0 Posted October 22, 2008 take out the plugs and inspect them first, this will tell you allot....wet,black,white,carbon deposits etc. If nothing is found inspecting the plugs, then you should carry out a compresson test. If compression readings are low, then carry out a wet commpresion test by adding in about 5 squirts of oil in the plug holes and then carring out the compression test. if nothing is found on the compression test it would sugest an electrical fault. Im sure someone will come along and tell you to plug it in to vag com at some point in this thread.....

Critical_Mass 10 Posted October 22, 2008 Dodgy coilpack?
MK1Campaign 0 Posted October 22, 2008 Dodgy coilpack? I was going to say this too. I saw a VR at Stealth sounding like it was firing on five and this was the culprit.
Toad 0 Posted October 22, 2008 If there is oil on the top of the plug, then it's probably some heavy handed oil filling or the rocker cover gasket. Remove the plug and clean it. Could be a dodgy injector too. Is it definitely No.6 that is missing?
