This is why we buy German cars

Recommended Posts

This Golf GTI was once my pride and joy, even had it featured in VW Motoring until it fell out with a 38 tonner. Can you believe my wife, son, brother, and sisterinlaw were all in this car when as she was stopped at a set of traffic lights a 38 ton truck hit her from behind at 35MPH amazingly they all walked away with minor cuts and bruises the police were amazed no one was killed and the recovery truck driver said good job it was a VW :D

yeah great cars! Utter lifesavers! Had a similar smash on the M4 in my old Mk2 16v and we both came out COMPELETELY unmarked. I only hurt my toe when I kicked the car in frustration! lol

Sciroccos are too! Got T boned at high speed at a crossroads once and both passenger and myself were very fortunate, thanks in part to the strength of the car!

This is my mate's old MK2.....which he walked away from unscathed, partly due to the much lower Corrado seats he had in it. A bus drove into him!

Woah, 2 very lucky sets of people there...

...and one typing this now... I managed to spin my MKII Golf twice on the way to work this morning... Icy roads and no gritters last night meant great fun this morning... Forunately I've managed to not damage the car at all. :D

The first time I saw some skid marks ahead so was only doing 20mph, but I still ended up in a field having gone through the open gate backwards and was then followed by the 2 cars behind me... The third car wasn't as lucky and hit the gatepost... :?

2 miles down the road, same again, skid marks on the road, 20mph, and I ended up doing a rather pretty pirouette of 180 degrees  I ended up on the other side of the road facing where I just come from so I had to drive back home a bit to find somewhere safe to turn around and then go around the corner again... this time at 10mph!

I'm fortunate that both of these were on back roads, so neither were busy and you don't get big lorries coming down there (they don't fit!), but they're normally gritted as the gritter depot is down these roads!

The weird thing was that at no stage did I feel worried 'cos I knew I was in a pretty solid car and wasn't going fast enough to do much damage to anything... The poor sod who hit the gatepost wasn't so sensible this morning though and his escort is likely to be an ex-cort now.... :?

I'm just glad that I've calmed down in my driving since I wrote my first Corrado off a few years ago... Crashing at 30mph and below makes you realise just how bad things could be if you'd have been going faster like the bloke in the escort this morning...

Take it easy out there kids, there's some slippy roads and incompetent councils out there!

Yup....know a thing or two about crashing Golf's myself :( . The silver Mk. 2 you see in my profile was a tatty, yet well loved example I'd owned for 8 years. Got caught out on a poxy Norfolk back-road in the wet but walked away without a scratch. Was gonna take my ol' man's Fiesta that night

Wasn't the A140 was it?? What a sh1te and dangerous road! Everybody overtakes at the dip just before the Shell station and comes a cropper. Dumb arses. I've lost count of the amount of prangs I've seen on that stupid road :x

Well....having smashed into a steel girder at 60 mph in my MK2, I can assure you they are made of stern stuff. A scratched arm from the collapsed door is a very small price to pay for my utter stupidity and a testament to our friends at Wolfsburg.

Out of interest, the only VW I've ever spun is my MK1 16V. All my MK2s and my Corrado are well mannered on the limit by comparison. A MK1 will bite you in the bum if you over step the mark. Just as my old Pug 205 1.9 used to :?
