coullstar 0 Posted October 5, 2009 Ok, this is a bit of a strange questions but it would be good to clear up. It looks like my subframe was modified when the 4mo engine was put in and the engine now appears to be tilting slightly to the left. Im hoping to rectify this but I recollect that the standard VR sits at a slight angle to the right. Is this correct or am I talking out of my ass? Does it sit perfectly level? D-Pete 0 Posted October 6, 2009 Mine is tilted very slightly to the left but only since I replaced the gearbox mount, it used to tilt right. Could be the engine mounts?
WigsVR6 0 Posted October 6, 2009 I've noticed this too with the engine tilting slightly to the right I dont know if this is normal or a problem. I've had the C in specialist VW garages a few times since I've owned it and nobody has ever brought it to my attention so I'm only presuming that everything is fine. In fact it's in for a service sometime next week so I'll pop the question when I take it in unless someone gets back with defonate answer.
KADVR6 0 Posted October 6, 2009 if psi used the standard vr6 front engine mount on the install then yes it will be at an angle mate, when i first put the r32 into mine it was at an angle?? i then measured how far off centre the engine mount was in comparism to when it was on the 12v, and it was a huge 30mm further over to the offside so causing the engine to lean towards the nearside. it never went further than this for obvious reasons. coullstar 0 Posted October 7, 2009 It has a vibra technics front mount but there was no mention of modifing it. Ive been told its better to have it slightly tilited to the right to help lubricate chains/tensioners etc.
_leon_ 0 Posted October 7, 2009 There's a need to use a spacer in the front mount with r32s I believe for this reason. C2 sell shims made up - I'm getting one for mine. Might be worth giving them a call - when I visited them a few weeks back, they had countless 24v conversions in their workshop, they'll have come across this too... coullstar 0 Posted October 7, 2009 Mmmm, I need to rasie the rear motor mount, it angles toward the drivers side. Adding a spacer at the front mount will surely only raise the front up will it not. What did you guys do about you rear motor mounts then? Just use the standard VR?
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted October 7, 2009 It has a vibra technics front mount but there was no mention of modifing it. Ive been told its better to have it slightly tilited to the right to help lubricate chains/tensioners etc. Canting the motor over is usually for packaging reasons (bonnet clearance) and to keep the axle line straight to minimise gearbox wear. The standard 12V engine on standard 12V mounts tilts slightly to the nearside and is normal. Vibratechnics mounts site the motor in exactly the same place as the stock mounts do when compressed. We dropped Rob's R32 straight onto VT mounts no problems at all.
coullstar 0 Posted October 8, 2009 Plan was to get a VT mount for the rear but I will still need to space it due to the modification PSI has done to the rear subframe mount.
