2 Litre 8v G60 = 275+ BHP!

Very impressive for a non crossflow head... and fair play to Berno considering the hassle he's had with the engine (...and then he bought the broken half of Henny's one :lol: )

This is Sam's (Blue Joe's) old engine with Henny's big valve CNC head running a 62mm pulley and 4 branch etc...

 

Vince did as much as he could mapping it but this would be capable of the magic 300bhp Sam was after if only RPM had built the engine to the correct compression ratio!

 

Basically it's setup with virtually no advance - a spacer gasket of ideally different pistons should make this an absolute monster 8)

 

Power output

 

3k - 135 bhp

4k - 188 bhp

5k - 244 bhp

6k - 264 bhp

6309k - 276.1 bhp (peak)

6776k - 250 bhp (max rpm)

 

Torque output

 

2k - 188 lbFt

3k - 230 lbFt

4k - 245 lbFt

5k - 250 lbFt

6k - 240 lbFt

Great spread of torque from 3 to 6K :salute:

 

Never heard of RPM? Who are they? Doesn't sound like a place I'd want to take my car if they can c0ck up something as simple as compression ratio!

Race Power Motorsport - Sam had loads of issues with them and there is a lot of bad press if you have a google...

Nah - just check every 10-12k - not that bad at all, regular servicing is key!

 

I'm running a 10mm on mine - basically a bolt coming out of the charger with the belt wrapped round it :)

Ooops it's broke already, the charger that is! 62mm = too much!

 

Well my lick continues, the FU*K**G charger went down this morning and developed a running fault.

 

As soon as the engine started I could hear a tapping noise.

 

Stripped the charger off in 15 minutes, Getting use to this now!

You find out how quickly your wobbly thing likes wobble! Being technical about it! 6800*1.7=11,560 with a standard pulley increase the wobbling by some 30-40% and your looking at more than 15000rpm, ouch! If it was kept below 6000rpm then he could of kept it within spec at 13200rpm.

Yeah but it still has expensive tastes.

 

I think he should start making it drink diesel and remove the spark plugs, I think it would be content that way.

I think with the G60, it was never a perfect design and things such as 62mm pulleys and tooth belt pulleys etc were well outside of the scope for which it was originally designed. I think some head improvements, a marginally smaller pulley, big FMIC and a remap are pretty much where you should draw the line between a healthy power increase and weekly trips to the garage to get things fixed.

Without trawling, what is the CR of that engine?

No one knows.

I will say that the dish looks similar to the dish on my new pistons.

Obviously the 8v cylinder head has a much smaller combustion chamber.

When Sam had it built it was said to have a C/R of 9.5:1... but no-one's ever actually proven that...

 

Mine had (before I sold the head!) a C/R of 9:1 and I had no problems with the compression ratio... Oh, and Race Power essentially built the bottom end of my engine too as JMR commissioned them to do the work to his spec when I got him to build the original 1940cc lump for me... (it's since been rebuilt twice for various reasons, and is about to be rebuilt again around a PG block instead of a 1H one! :cuckoo: )
