Jim Bowen 1 Posted September 4, 2010 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctcNHDLiB9Q recorded this on the phone cam, hope the link works. This has been going on a while now, noise is from the bottom of column. When driving i can take a bend about 60mph with a quarter lock of steering and if i hit a small bump you can feel the car/wheels move themselves, like the wheels turns but steering wheel doesn't. Can be quite unsettling at times

Jim Bowen 1 Posted September 4, 2010 ^^the fixed column mod is pretty much on my list to do, i think i will get the parts soon, i bought a 2nd hand rack but unsure how to test its condition. Not sure whether to fit it, or just try and buy a new one and then my mind will be at rest

davidwort 0 Posted September 6, 2010 was just thinking someone mentioned that before. i did take off ignition cowling but think i was looking in the wrong place :cuckoo: follow the steering column down until you get to the start of the universal joint that connects the bottom of the column to the steering rack, the pinch bolt holds the column to the top of the UJ.
