Tropical fish - think I could get into this

Recommended Posts

Sounds like swim bladder mate. But it could be that he's just eaten too much and being bloated. Best to not feed him for a day or 2 - that would mean seperating him from the rest of the tank so he doesnt eat.

Well my dad has finally lost the plot, cut a hole in his kitchen wall and done the following.

It looks a little 'Chinese Restaurant', but is actually a lovely tank. Only been set up a month, a local fish shop (not chip shop!) has done all the work so far and I think they've made a nice job of it. (5ft x 2ft x 2ft)

I know! Everyone coming put of the woodwork! I personally have a 4ft marine tank but want to upgrade to a larger one at some point but it is difficult trying to persuade the wife that she needs a bigger tank in her life!

Seeing as you asked so nicely! Here is a very poor phone picture of my tank. I need to find a way of taking tank photos without them being bleached out by the light!

I've had it up and running for 3 years or so, maybe a bit longer. It's definitely been a labour of love with it's ups and downs. I can also spend long periods of time away from home and as such I wanted it to be low maintenance for the wife for when I was away. It's a 48x15x18 tank that is running without a sump or a skimmer and has been without either for 2 years with no nasty side effects. They only issue I have is an unsightly film on the surface, but as I said, there have been no nasty side effects.

45ish KG of live rock, 25kg of sand and plenty of snails and a few crabs provide all the filtration I need for the smallish amount of fish and few corals I do have. I am itching to upgrade to a slightly bigger tank with a sump again.

Cheers mate, I'm sure there will be purists out there who will kill me for my methods, but tank levels are all spot on and healthy and I rarely have a fatality apart from my over eager pistol shrimp!

I like the look of all the tanks in here, loved my tropical tank! I used to have a little 60l tropical tank but decided to make the jump and ended up with this!
