VR6 Gar 10 Posted February 23, 2011 As title, bought the car with a low pedal release/engage point, thinking low clutch, but having had a search it looks like its not this as they get high, not low when wearing out. This lead me to believe the slave, master or pipework are to blame. However upon inspection the reservoir is completely full still and i can not see any leaks(quick look from above). Any idea what the problem may be, and if a bleed of the system may solve the issue? The clutch pedal comes all the way back up fine, and the clutch is showing no signs of slipping at all. Jim Bowen 1 Posted February 23, 2011 i bought this up with mate as my corrado had a brand new clutch not long ago, but i haven't driven it for months, when i drove it last weekend all i kept thinking was the clutch seemed really low biting point compared to my escort. my mate said most VW's are like that, i think i just wasn't used to driving it after being in another car so long. VR6 Gar 10 Posted February 23, 2011 See I have never driven a hydro vw before, loads of mk1 and 2s, vans, ford focus' etc and i must say this feels a bit odd, maybe it just takes some getting used to if there isn't a problem.
hombre_paulo 0 Posted February 23, 2011 +1 for VAG cars genereally having a low bite point. If the pedal is coming all the way up i wouldnt worry about it
daves16v 1 Posted February 23, 2011 I had a very low biting point when the clutch lever arm broke (previously welded not by me). I replaced both cylinders before I got to the real problem and also didn't have any fluid problems so my guess is that your lever arm might be bent. Donjon 0 Posted March 1, 2011 I had a very low biting point on mine when i bought it. Turned out to be the clutch itself, it was catching on the bellhousing! I can only guess the springs were knackered, as the release arm and everything else was ok!
Supercharged 2 Posted March 1, 2011 Bleed it first if it's not been done for a while but I'd look at changing the slave anyway if it's not a new alloy part (unpainted) They only leak noticably when they get to the stage where they're almost undrivable. If you remove the carpet mat does it make it easier? - If so something is not right!
easypops 8 Posted March 1, 2011 The release fork on mine broke too..............the biting point got really low then the pedal started coming back up in 2 stages, sticking slightly in the middle.........i relaced the slave cylinder which did no good.......new clutch, release bearing and fork and all was well again
VR6 Gar 10 Posted March 1, 2011 Discs all round could do with replacing so going to be upgrading the brakes to either 288 or 312mm soon, so will be replacing fluid at the same time. Think it may just be I am not familiar with it, pedal feels fine, returns perfectly, its just lower than I am used to. Will monitor over the next few weeks to see if there is any change. Only use the car at weekends, so its nothing that urgently needs any potential problems diagnosing. Cheers.
