budhilton 10 Posted September 12, 2011 Hi All I have wanted a Corrado for ages now ever since getting rid of my last golf (had 5 in total) So I went mad and bought one blind and cheap from ebay so I expect I will become a frequent user of this site :bonk: It is a white 1995 2.0 with high mileage a full 12months MOT and 1 months tax :smug: A claimed full service history, lowered and it is also claimed that everything works including the spoiler. We shall see. Having spent the last couple of years restoring my Mk1 MX5 I thought it was time to take the plunge and get one of these before I become sensible, act my age and buy an estate or something. So here I am about to collect it today. I will post pics when I get it if this bloody weather eases up. Fingers crossed its not an absolute dog that will cost me even more than the mx5 did which I still have and still love Do I post the pics here or in the Gallery or both? budhilton 10 Posted September 12, 2011 Well I picked her up and she seems fine overall. Full service history 166000 miles all old MOT's and stacks of receipts and I mean stacks of them. The only faults so far are drivers mirror doesn't work and the heater fan only works on speed 4. Sunroof tilts and slides, spoiler raises and goes back down as it should, windows work new wiper motor all lights work even the vanity one and the one in the boot. No leaks, tyres are good as is the bodywork. Very small amount of rust on the sills which I will need to look at in the following year but not urgent. Interior is very good. It doesn't rattle or bang or make strange noises and brakes as it should, handbrake is also good. So I am made up with her so far although my cheque book is at the ready I have also sneaked in a cheeky one of my other overdraft assistant  Andy
James. 9 Posted September 12, 2011 Nice to see in white. My first Corrado was a 2L in white. Take the mirror switch apart and clean the contacts. Heater problem will probably be the thermal fuse: http://wiki.the-corrado.net/fan_speed_thermal_fuse_repair.html Both common faults and easy to sort. There's a gathering number of Corrado owners in the north west now so make sure you come along to the shows/meets.
elliott 10 Posted September 12, 2011 Welcome, very tidy pair of wheels you have there. I also bought a 160000 mile car and so far its been as expected, late nights in the garage and learning all the way. Still its all good fun and if you need any help then this is the place to be. Toohottotrot 10 Posted September 13, 2011 I reckon the pleasure outweighs the pain of surgically extracting cash from the bank! Welcome fellow Corrado/ Mx5 owner! :)
24V Renshaw 0 Posted September 13, 2011 Welcome. Car looks like a solid base. I have just returned to Corrado ownership after 4 years and am also in Cheshire. Where abouts are you? Jay
budhilton 10 Posted September 13, 2011 Thanks for the link James I will have a look at that soon. Also thanks for the welcome. I do intend to come to some meets so I will keep my eye open for them. Jay I live in Widnes. On further investigation the guy who I bought it off ran a large speaker wire from the boot through the centre console and into the back of the radio. It looks like he has dislodged the vent direction control and the dials are either on the wrong side or dislodged from the back (why don't people just do things properly!!) So I need to strip that down and have a look if I can get them all working again. If not its thermal fuse time. Fun times ahead. Andy
budhilton 10 Posted September 14, 2011 Well I stripped out the heater control and the guy before me has broken it. So I need another one. What's the best place to source this part. I looked on eBay and classifieds on here no luck. Mine are obviously the later type as it's a 95 model Thanks Andy
Purple Tom 0 Posted September 14, 2011 The part itself is pretty rare and sought after if I'm honest. Prices vary but anything from £35 - £70 seems to be the going rate depending on how much the buyer wants it unfortunately. It is possible to fit the heater controls out of a B3 Passat, and I think it might also be possible with the non-AC controls from a B4, although I can't 100% say for definite. I'm also looking into whether its possible to fit the controls from a Polo/Ibiza too, as they all essentially do the same job and most of the heater boxes work in pretty much the same way. It just depends on how they fit into the centre console as to how easy the job is. Other than that the best bet really is to keep an eye out for someone breaking a Corrado - when they do come up on eBay they tend to be priced high which is a shame as it just forces the prices of spares like that even higher. HTH - and welcome to the forum :) Tom

budhilton 10 Posted September 18, 2011 Well I spent a very rainy day washing the car yesterday and fixing most of the damage to the centre console and replacing the screws and connectors that had not been replaced. Took her for a spin and very very few rattles well none if I am honest a slight squeak from the clocks but I can live with that. So got back checked the oil. It had none. Topped it up shut the bonnet and off I went to hoover it taKe it for another blast and drop my brothers birthday card of and show him the car. He had left his car on the road so I pulled on the drive. We admired the car for a while then I went to go after a coffe to find a large pool of oil under my car. Damm thinks I. After all the praise I had been giving it it came back and bit me on the arse. So I moved it off the drive cleaned his newish flags!! and was about to walk home. It was then I realised I had not put the oil filler cap back on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In 26 years driving I have never done this. What an unholy mess I have made of the engine bay. The last time I saw an enginge bay look this messy I had just blown the head of my first car a Mk2 Escort. So time to get the gunk out and clean the engine. I feel an absolute idiot. So come on guys n girls make me feel better what idiotic things have you done ? Andy

lewvw 10 Posted September 19, 2011 (edited) I was doing a coolant flush on my pal's 1.8t golf, flush in, ran it up to temp then got under the car to drain it from the rad tap...fresh pant's time! Luckily just scolded my arm although my face wasn't too far away! Corrado look's nice in white! Edited September 19, 2011 by lewvw
Pete 0 Posted September 19, 2011 Very nice - white is one of the best colours for a corrado!

budhilton 10 Posted September 20, 2011 Thanks for trying Elliot ---------- Post added at 09:37 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:34 PM ---------- Hi Andy think I saw you yesterday driving up Kingsway around 1500 ish. The C looked very nice indeed. Alan Yeh Alan that was me. I must admit so far I am very happy with it. Its not perfect but its a good base. I am now questioning why I moved on from VW's in the first place. I think I have found a competitor to the mx5 for putting stupid grins on my face  Andy
budhilton 10 Posted October 10, 2011 Well I took the rado to the garage today for a check up. Scanned on the computer with no faults, well old ABS ones that were cleared. Quick oil and filter change. The guy looked it over (He is a VW specialist) Found no faults all ok underneath except for the rear brake pipe being slightly coroded so I am well chuffed with that cosidering I bought it blind and obviously it is 16 years old. So all I have to do is get the air direction sorted and replace the stereo surround and she is good to keep. Andy
