4wd r32 turbo

Recommended Posts

Hi people. i'm looking either to purchase a Rado already converted to r32 turbo haldex 4wd or for some help on finding the person/s with the experience to take on the project of converting a donor to my preferred spec. I'm talking late audi or VW dash and 500+ BHP but looking like a factory original fit out. I have the friends in the trade with all the bits i need (except maybe a syncro floor). I have been in touch with a couple of "professionals" and would much rather prefer somebody who specialises in the Rado conversions and/or building an ass kicking engine that would be just at home popping down to sainsburys as it would be tearing down the quarter mile! I've even considered taking one over to holland to get it done (only a short trip in the grand scheme of things)

Any help with my dilemma would be greatly appreciated and i would hope to be out on the Rado circuit for the summer!!

This kind of conversion is going to take any specialist moths to complete. There will be considerable amounts of fabrication work involved not to mention rebuilding the engine and getting everything to fit and run just right. Anyone who is capable of doing this kind of work and doing it well is going to charge you an arm and a leg. are you really sure this is what you want? Why? If you want 4wd and 500bhp, either get a B5 RS4 or B5 S4 and mod that. Far better bet for that kind of power, and the car was designed to be 4wd from the factory. The other thing is that anyone who can do this kind of work is likely to be in very high demand and have a waiting list that books this kind of big project work in months in advance. You'll really struggle to have this up and running by next Summer even if you find someone. Be aware that project cars seldom make the specialist builders any money. There is so much more in a remap and filter given the time they end up spending, so you will find very few who are willing to take it on, unless you can promise an open chequebook.

Sorry matey; this will not be what you want to hear, but it is near enough reality. Your best bet is to build it yourself, or start with a more modest aspiration, say dropping an R32 in to a Corrado, get that running properly, then go again for the 4wd conversion, get that working, then finally turbo it. Doing these things in stages will more managebale for all concerned.

Rgds

Charlie

If its really what you're looking for then holland or more specifically http://www.jdengineering.nl/ is your best option.

As much as its a great idea on forza, it's not something you're gonna find just sat around up for sale.

I dread to think about how much it's gonna cost you too!

What is your expected budget?!

There is an R32'd Turbo 4wd Corrado in the UK. Its blue and wears TT comps. It was at Inters and was very quick. If you have the skills and patience you could could do it yourself however I can seeing it taking a long time. You'd need to really love the Corrado to do this.

There's also a red one in dewsbury. There's a bloke by me who's had this set up in a caddy pick up, he spun up all 4wheels in 3rd outside my mates house. (he's got a vr in now because he kept spinning big ends on the r32.)

if you have a spare 15/20k then yeh do it, if not just buy a golf r32 and turbo that will probably work out a lot cheaper and not cause you as much hassle, they do come up for sale on the r32 owners club.

Any ideas on the best r32/vr6 engine tuners in the UK for reworking the internals and turbo conversion?

I'd give the Phirm a try. They've worked wonders for me...

If you gave me the £20k I'd be turning the R32 into a monster, not turning the Corrado into an R32.

I just think that the Rado is one awesome looking motor but in my eyes it could do with an extreme makeover. Cue my wish list of mods! total comfort, awesome pace and the handling and traction that comes from AWD. What more could a guy ask for? Anyone who says they'd go and get an R32 and do the biz' to it is missing my point.....Yes most might go down the route of a later model motor but even an RS4 doesnt float my boat been there, done that. I had a Corrado many moons ago and am still smitten, so please just humour me and come up with anything i may be able to use in the pursuit of my ultimate motor (behind a Veyron or a GTR that is :-) lol)

Hey, if you've got the budget and patience to make it work I don't think any of us could knock it!

I can't see you get any change from the 20k kad mentioned above though!

I can see hellokarl69's point. Yes it's cheaper and easier to get an R32 as a starting point. But if you take that argument then you may as well buy something more modern instead of a Corrado even if you don't plan on modding it. I drive a Corrado as second car purely because it is a Corrado. I could easily have spend the same money on something else and got a 'better' car. But I wanted a Corrado.

What hellokarl69 wants is a Corrado with AWD and a charged R32. And I can understand that. A charged R32 will always be an R32 and not a Corrado.

Although I do have to add that I wouldn't spend that kind of money on it even if I had it :)

It's a good idea to girdle 24V turbos as the block casting is not as thick as the 12V's. I would probably use Audi RS4 conrod shells too.

You could always try my brother as he is thinking of selling his Corrado. Goes by the name of ozowen on here. He was thinking of waiting untill the summer before putting his Corrado up for sale but I dare say he could be tempted. Link for his thread:

I've decided to take the bull by the horns and go it alone as far as the conversion goes......GULP! I may live to regret that comment but it seems the only way to scratch this itch i've got satisfactorily. I've been asking around for one that's either already done or at least part way there but i would still have a mountain of work on my hands to get me to my Nirvana lol. So...the plan is.....i'm going to graft in a later floorpan from a haldex motor, send an R32 engine (i may even go R36 yet ha ha) off to be completely re-worked with bulletproof internals, plus an insane turbo/supercharger (jury's still out on that one)....i prefer the drivability and instant power of the superchargers but they might not get me up there with the kind of power i'm looking for. Can someone advise me of their opinions on this one? What's the best bits of kit to go for as far as tune-ability and reliability (gearbox, crank, block, turbo/s-charger, clutch & head). As i said at the start of this thread, i'm aiming to end up with a stock looking (can't improve on that one imo) AWD R32 (or R36 lol) with a TT dash and interior (all working) Choice of body colour will probably be open to debate but i'm feeling all fruity at the moment.......and i did previously have a BB 16v, i may be swayed by that because i loved that motor. So there you have it guys! I would love some input from any of you guys who know their stuff much better than i do.......... And i hope my relationship will last ;-).

Once again, happy new year People. I hope to see you on the circuit in the coming months (me on foot no doubt)

I couldn't have timed it worse could i! Only just been and bought a project VR then came home and got OZ's message. DAMMIT! I know i could always get rid of the one i've just brought but i've now worked myself up into such a Tiswas about this whole "conversion" thing i'm struggling to get to kip (i **** you not). How sad is that?....Anyway, moving swiftly on, i'm going all out and pulling no punches. i want around 650-700 horses Haldex and transform the interior, all done to a factory standard. We'll have to wait and see how it goes?
