G-Lad 0 Posted December 18, 2011 Opie Oils product chooser reckons that I should go for, either: Motul GEAR MB 80W Gearbox lubricant Extreme Pressure Millers Oils EP 75w-80 GL5 high quality gear oil Castrol Manual EP80w gear oil all about £35 for 5litres, inc club discount. http://www.opieoils.co.uk/product-finder/car/engine-oil/volkswagen/1993/corrado/PETROL/corrado/38029/product-finder-2.aspx What's best for improving the gear change in a standard car? How much do I need for a VR6 gearbox? I know to make sure I can get the fill plug out before emptying from the drain plug :D Cheers
floppyman 0 Posted December 18, 2011 I recommend none of the above.... Mt90 or castrol smx.... If you fancy a trip down to london ill do you a gear oil change with smx for £30. It takes about 3 liters
G-Lad 0 Posted December 18, 2011 MT90, that sounds familiar - thanks, I shall do some more reading! Cheers
dragon green 5 Posted December 18, 2011 Redline MT90 gets my vote
Jim 2 Posted December 18, 2011 Another vote for Redline MT90. Great stuff.
Supercharged 2 Posted December 18, 2011 Redline is the stuff but maybe use SMX or the VW stuff first as a flush
G-Lad 0 Posted December 18, 2011 Cheers folks - order placed with Opie, along with a bunch of other fluids and an oil filter, ready for the annual service! ...not sure why Redline MT90 didn't get suggested on their search-by-car-type product finder widget, but hey! Ta :)
davidwort 0 Posted December 18, 2011 SMX-S or vag fully synthetic.
CazzaVR 0 Posted December 19, 2011 Another for SMX-S (or its replacement- think it's been superceeded now). Does just as good a job as MT90 IMHO + it's cheaper and available from Halfords.
fendervg 33 Posted December 19, 2011 Used to use Redline MTL on my Mk2 GTI - any reason why this wouldn't be suited to the Corrado gearbox ?
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted December 19, 2011 MTL is lighter than MT90. 70W-80 versus 75W-90. The shifts may feel a little slicker when cold with MTL but otherwise will work fine the VR6 box. I might try some of the new 75W-90 "Shockproof" oil next.
dragon green 5 Posted December 19, 2011 Shockproof isn't recommended for wavetrac LSD ! I don't know about your Quaife Kev,maybe worth a phonecall.
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted December 19, 2011 Yeah I can see why on the Wavetrak as it has friction components that would compromised by something too slippery. The Quaife doesn't, it's all plantery gearing and nothing else :D
