Candy White VR6

Recommended Posts

Had a 2.0 16V Corrado for about 3 years, then pick up the Candy white VR6 just over a year ago - so about time i started a members thread

Not long after purchase

When I got the car the water temp gauge didn’t work, luckily it was just that the needle had slipped off the back, Easy Fix, but then noticed it was running quite hot, had a poke around but couldn't see anything too bad, had a look at the water pump... Yuck! :gag:

So that set me off replacing most of the coolant system, just get the rad to do now, its little tired but works fine

Over the last 12 months its had...

OEM oil filter

OEM oil cooler

OEM water pump

Crack pipe

Thermostat and housing

Mocal 13 row oil cooler 90deg thermostatic plate

OEM alternator and belt

Spoon fed 70mm splitter and new fixings

SWG Scuttle cover

Full set of back samco’s with new spring clips

Refurbished 312’s & Goodridge hoses

Gear box mount

Toe eye cover

New battery and jacket

Sunroof switch

Sunroof motor

Alloys refurbished

Philips DAB stereo & speakers

New cobra CAT 1 alarm

Various trim pieces to tidy up the interior

US side markers

All red rear lights

OEM VSS

There are still lots of things on the list but it’s getting closer to where I want it to be :) Refurbishing the spoiler mech and finding a better canter console and leather handbrake cover are top at the moment

I don't have any recent pics but will try to get some over the weekend

Having seen lots of brand new cars in white recently and not liked them, I was pleasantly surprised at how good the four white Corrados looked at the CCGB Brooklands day meet recently. So a thumbs up from me - looks great!

Very nice. What temps were you running before and what are you running now?

Thanks,

Water was at 100-105 (Fan was coming on a lot) and oil 120-125, water is now at 85 ish and oil at 95, so a reduction of around 20 deg

Did a 486 miles this weekend on a trip to wales and back, The car could not have been better, didn't miss beat. Only managed to get 34mpg... the very wet but smooth twisty welsh roads might have had something to do with that :p

ended up getting a few new bit to eliminate causes of the misfire, They needed replacing anyway, and together with some freshed up engine plastics have smartened up the engine a little

another small update, fitted the Polyurethane engine mounts from Jays group buy

the front one went really easily but it was too good to last and i snapped the top bolt inside the rear mount :bonk: so got a new cheap one from GSF as the mounts were going to be changed anyway, and i finally got rid of the old cheap air filter that was fitted when i got the car and replaced it with a nice BMC CDA

Ohh and a new spare key :shades: which VW shorted out surprisingly quickly and at a reasonable price

how much did vw charge for a key then ??

Looks awesome!

I'd also like to know about the key. What did you need to order it? Does it have a chip in it?

Thanks All

Yes, its a chiped key with light (think they all have that tho don't they ?)

Just gave them my chassis number and it turned up within a week (cut obviously), it cost thirty something ponds with a small discount, not too bad IMO considering what VW charge for some Keys or Corrado items

That's excellent news! As the plastic tab that used to have my code on it seems to now be blank I didn't think I'd be able to get a spare. I know what I'll be ordering on Friday!
