nickeboy 0 Posted September 25, 2012 what is the opinion on rear bushes, (a pain to remove)? i normall buy all my bits from either GFS and have always found the bits to be excellent and often original, or i have bought them from VW and often little bits are reasonable, whats the verdict with the rear bushes, i def want standard not poly, i went down this route with my MK1 golf 16v and while good always i find compromise the comfort a little. But are original VW really any better than premium GFS or are they indeed made in the same factory? also is there any other bits i need while replacing? bolts perishables etc Thanks NIck
Human Joist 10 Posted September 25, 2012 They are time consuming to remove remember doing some on a mk2 golf which is the same and having to hacksaw a bit out. If I do mine I will go polly. Would not do the whole of the car as it will stiffen it up to much. For example doing the front wishbones will make it very hard. Polly ones are easy as you copper grease them and they go in easy enough. If you go factory/original I understand you will need to but a specialist tool which I understand is not cheap. CazzaVR 0 Posted September 25, 2012 (edited) Def get OEM ones from VW. You get what you pay for, especially with rubber parts. Personally I wouldn't go poly with these. Easier to fit, but make the ride very harsh and you'll lose the passive rear steering. You don't need the special tool, but they'll need a hydraulic press to get them in. Here's the special tool method: http://wiki.the-corrado.net/rear_axle_bushes.html Edited September 25, 2012 by CazzaVR
nickeboy 0 Posted September 25, 2012 Are VW different to the gfs then? gfs are £16 each which seems reasonable what might vw be price wise ( im being lazy i will check tomorrow) Thanks for the replys
CazzaVR 0 Posted September 25, 2012 GSF are vastly inferior in quality. You'll be doing them again in a couple of years. Not sure on price- not cheap though :(
Human Joist 10 Posted September 25, 2012 From what CazzaVR says he makes a very good argument for oe. I do agree that if you are going for non polly get VW as the originals have lasted nearly 20 years so you will get same again do you need to take the rear beam off to do it. Or is that just easier.
