CCGB Membership Fee Discussion Now Here: http://www.corradoclub.org/

Recommended Posts

Some reet banter on here :-)

Good ideas & bad ones too, and as VR6 rightly says I dont know why CCGB stuff always gets posted on here.

Personally I'd rather it be discussed on the ccgb website as I'm sure Andi doesn't want us to use up server space or whatever it is.

Could be an interesting AGM then so get down there and lets discuss :-)

I think I speak for the mods here when I say I would have precisely zero interest in taking on MORE responsibility, like if this forum were to become more like the club and try to generate revenue for shows, events. That already happens to an extent (I organise a rolling road day most years, for example which is primarily organised on here rather than on the CCGB site) but I'd never want to formalise that any more.

Agree Jim, I think the 2 actually compliment each other well despite a few shenanigans over the years lol.

This discussion had come up more often than I can remember too so maybe the planets are aligned again or something :-)

The club needs to have a large cushion to sit on and thats the norm with many clubs, if we spend it thats it game over & who gains then.

See you in April ;-)

I'm glad I held back on this thread last night and others have waded in with this discussion.

It's such a crying shame that we have this schism in the Corrado community. It really is amazing that this single make and model has such a great, if divided, community here in the UK.

It is very telling that CCGB gets a good dialogue going on, but that it's here on the Corrado Forum. This is by no means a criticism of the CCGB forum but it really is more sensible to bring the traditional CCGB discussions to the forum. I would love to see a CCGB sub section, if some agreement could be made between both parties. Some CCGB discussions should be public and there will probably be content that the Club might want to keep private, such as minutes of the AGMs etc. Our esteemed CCGB Membership Secretary would presumably need to manage access and rental should reasonably be agreed for the service and use of the Forum. To avoid any confusion, I think it should be clearly stated that it is a rental agreement, so the club does it's own thing (raising money, conducting events, producing merchandise etc) and so the Corrado Forum people don't need to invest any more because of the CCGB's use of the space.

We need to acknowledge that some people will want a free / donations only forum and others, I included, will prefer a traditional paid for club with the other benefits and extras that comes with it. Is there any reason why these can't operate together? I strongly suspect that a venn diagram of CCGB and Corrado Forum members would have pretty much all CCGB members also using the Corrado Forum. As shown earlier in this thread, the CCGB will likely benefit from casual Forum members deciding to pay up and join, to get some of the added benefits.

Is it that surprising that our beloved paper magazine, the Sprinter, runs out of content when the forum is awash with "how to" guides and the like? When I was brain storming for article ideas last night, I was just coming up with post-event reviews, readers rides, mod how-to guides and the like. I love getting a paper mag in the post. Maybe i'll get off my arse and write something one day.

Now seems like a really good time to have this dialogue about bring CCGB and The Corrado Forum (back?) together.

I don't know anything about past history and I apologise if i've trodden on anyone's toes. Hopefully saying the above won't make me (any more) unpopular ;)

I am happy to pay £15 a year to CCGB and i'd be pleased if a bit of that went to buying-in to using the Corrado Forum as official our online hang out. A £5 increase sounds very insignificant to me. If we're worried about people feeling they don't get value, then we simply need to spell out the benefits. As mentioned, it was reduced a few years ago so it's simply going back to what it was. £5 is a drop in the ocean for a Corrado owner.

I think £6k in the bank for the CCGB to put on some pucker members events and to buy promotional material is perfect. Quibling over the numbers we're discussing does seem a bit trivial in context of the Porsche club that Eric mentioned. The 2012 National Day was a brilliant way to give back to the members, so let's have more of that.

The committee do a *great* job as ambassadors for the club and in their own specialist roles. I just wish the online presence was less divorced from where most of us already hang out for advice and inspiration...

Paul - Just think its inevitable that CCGB stuff gets posted up on here - far more people use this forum than the CCGB one. I suspect that pretty much all of the CCGB committee and membership have posted stuff up on here about CCGB shows etc and I don't get the impression that anybody has objected to that? I like the fact (well sometimes) that you get pretty much instant responses on here yet the CCGB forum you often wait for days for a response. Just a factor of how many people use this.

I think its been useful to have the discussion here as its prompted some good debate and plenty of ideas and reactions. Some of those have come from people who won't normally attend the AGM , some have come from non CCGB folk but I think its important to canvas that group as well as ultimately if we don't attract more of them then the club will start to struggle. This forum is probably the most fertile recruiting ground we can sow.

Jim - Can we not make it very light touch? - as VR6 suggested? Hopefully no extra work for the mods once the URLs, banners and such like had been set up? I think the CCGB is more than capable of generating show income for example. If we do agree to co-operate we should be able to draw the lines quite clearly so there is no mission creep and everybody knows where the roles start and stop.

In my opinion each camp has its strengths and weaknesses and I think a partnership along the lines suggested could be a win-win?? The CCGB does a fantastic job with getting shows organised - I honestly don't think the majority of them would happen without them as the organisation required is sometimes huge. Then there is the Sprinter which everybody agrees has been great and merchandising as well . We are fortunate indeed to have people with a passion for what they do on both sides (and lets not forget, unpaid) be they CCGB Committee members or Forum Mods and system administrators (some do both). I just think that if we worked together we would be greater than the sum of the parts and that now is the right time to do that.

I can't make it to the AGM I'm afraid but I would like to submit my votes to the secretary as well as suggestions for discussion around this topic if required ? How do we get proposals for a vote onto the agenda?

[/color]G-Lad and I were typing at the same time but he said it better than me!

I would not want the reserves level (which after all is a rather academic arguement) to be the sticking point to closer collaboration although I do think we need some investment. Hopefully with collaboration generating some new member income and a fee increase we can afford that without taking the reserves below a level which the committeee and club are unhappy with.

Vaughan - Personally I think you need to offer to undertake some of the suggestions you make rather than just coming up with numerous items you feel the Club should be doing.

Very happy to do that. Some suggestions (which are by no means just mine) are fairly straightforward I think ? I summarised them in an earlier post as best I could taking the various comments that have been made into account.

1. You cant even begin to talk about amalgamation until you have permission from the people that can make that decision.

2. Submit all items for agenda to the club secretary as suggested numerous times in the sprinter and on the ccgb website.

3. you make it all sound so very easy Lol!

I'm going now and i'll comment on a thread on the clubs forum should it get on on the matter as feel any newbies reading all this will run a mile. Sigh

Ultimately I am sure Andi is receptive to offers. There's nothing we can do to push things forward. It's all in the CCGB hands to propose something.

The sheer horror when nothing will happen! Arrgh, we'll still be in (sh*tty?) jobs, debating dubious things, running around in circles chasing own tails  Nothing new then

Ok folks I am locking this up for the following reasons:

1. This is a discussion to be held on the Corrado club website and forum as right now frankly it has nothing to do with the Corrado forum. As a mod on this forum and a Committee member in the club I am very aware of the need to balance the two.

2. I think it has about run its course and we seem to be starting to go round in circles.

3. It is confusing some folks who think the club and the forum are one and the same by having it here.

4. Merry Christmas (Or whatever you may celebrate).
