JAM11E 10 Posted May 4, 2014 Sad day today when the C decided to lose all the coolant. Seems like it's a leak coming from a pipe that goes into the thermostat housing, what is the easiest way to get access to this? I was thinking bumper and radiator out? Thanks
CazzaVR 0 Posted May 4, 2014 You'd be right I'm afraid. Worth replacing the lot + water pump with oem parts while you're in there, if they haven't been done for a while.
Jim Bowen 1 Posted May 4, 2014 Am sure you can get to it without removing the front.
Goldie 2 Posted May 4, 2014 No need to remove the front end.. Coilpack cover, coil pack and you are pretty much in the area.. (assuming its a VR)
CazzaVR 0 Posted May 4, 2014 You can remove the crack pipe without removing the front end, but it's like doing the heater matrix without removing the dash IMHO. Stat housing on it's own is fine by removing the coil pack, if a little fiddly. That short bolt is always a PITA!
VW_OwneR_85 2 Posted May 5, 2014 removing the front end would seem like a huge task but its not, it takes less then 20 minutes to do, the only PITA part about it imo is the bonnet cable but you could leave that connected I guess and swing it to the side still attached to the slam panel,
