stevemac 0 Posted June 11, 2004 use aluminium, not stainless. I'm with you there Paul. Stainless tubes will retain too much heat & cancel out the effect of the intercooler. Highly polished aluminum will retain much less heat & the mirror surface will reflect most of the heat from the engine bay. Far better choice IMO. daves16v 1 Posted June 11, 2004 Aluminium also retains heat, which is why heatsinks are made from Ali.
exturbo2003 0 Posted June 13, 2004 Aluminium also retains heat, which is why heatsinks are made from Ali. aluminium doesnt soak heat it transfers it from the hotter plane to the colder plane so helps even the temps out. therefore it will help remove heat from the intake charge as long as the underbonnet temp is lower, but it doesnt retain heat well. heat up a bit of ali in the oven with a bit of stainless and see which one cools the quickest
aposegil 0 Posted June 13, 2004 ok guys i understnad your points but i havent seen anyone that sells alu tubing and one got any contacts to buyt hte stuff from??
stevemac 0 Posted June 13, 2004 Your local engineering/fabrications company will sell you as much as you need - usually fairly cheaply too. Check the yellow pages. Best to buy from the smaller companies as the larger ones tend to be interested in contract work only. For a small cost they will usually bend or weld it to shape for you too.
