Power steering pumps.

Recommended Posts

Hi all its looking like the power steering pump has gone the distance on my 1.8 16v c I've been given a freebie from a friend with a mk4 tdi the mounts look similar will they go as a direct swap or can it be made to fit? Looking at sourcing a replacement from a breaking c looks around £100 Mark but the mk 2/3/4 pumps all look very similar. Anyone had any experience with them?

Thanks

Phil

Not sure, but i do know sone pumps produce different pressures.

I got my vr6 one from gsf. Non genuine and traded in some scrap one I'd taken apart.

They differ also regarding the high press. Pipe attachments, the pump's shaft length could also be shorter or longer, like a g60 pump compared with a 16v version. If your stuck for a PS pump let me know which version you have, ZF or the much more common TRW.

And also measure the distance between the edge of the pulley rotor and end of the pump's body.

Cheers veedubbed and Jim going to drop the old one tonight and compare the shafts and mounting points. Prior to removal just eyeing them up they look almost identical for size and position but that might change once I have both in my hand. I'll let you know how I get on as a mk4 ps pump set me back £10 from a friend or the local scrappy want £20 bit of a price difference from the 3 figures wanted online for a corrado original

Well gents mk4 pump direct replacement straight in perfect fit. Had a nightmare removing the pulley from the old pump ended up having to grind off the bolts but after that no probs at all works a treat .

Ahh missed this thread, been running a mk4 pump on mine for a couple of years without a problem. People say pressure is different but I haven't noticed any change

Pd150 engine code bud. But apparently pretty much all mk4 engines run off the same pump from what I can gather

Swift kid. Ildoes yours whine at all? Mines a touch loud but I am running the wrong power steering fluid. Gonna flush it out n put the green stuff in tomorrow see if it quietens down. Could be a shot 2nd hand pump but I'm hoping not. Works perfect just a touch noisey

Literally exactly the same, whined for a short time but thats expected when swapping pumps. After I'd driven it once it quietened down
