kingkenny100 0 Posted July 18, 2017 (edited) Hi, looking for some advice... The power steering pump on my vr6 packed in. I purchased a new one from a local parts supplier, and thought it looked the same, but it actually has an extra lug. All other dimensions seem the same. When trying to fit this lug hits the head of a bolt on the alloy bracket. Do you think i can just lop this off?? The new part number is 91128 and dated 2001 so i would assume a mrk4 golf or similar. The old part is 91115 (date94) Thanks Edited July 18, 2017 by kingkenny100
dr_mat 0 Posted July 18, 2017 Who did you buy it from? Ask them.. A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.
Jim Bowen 1 Posted July 18, 2017 Get some pics, always helps to see the issue. I ended up having to go to VW for my pump and it cost a ****load, wasn't even a VW pump they supplied just a KYB
kingkenny100 0 Posted July 18, 2017 Ye will ask, although i suspect they will just take it back as opposed to grinding off the lug. I guess the query is has anyone else used a 2001 era pump? Was sort of hoping this was a common fix as they without be much more common

Dox 23 Posted July 18, 2017 Newer pumps are supposed to be higher pressure, others have fitted pumps like you intend to and have had good results. You could try it first by removing the bolt? Then once proven slip the bolt back in and grind off the mounting without disturbing the pipework? Long term use without the bolt fitted would lead to fatigue in the bracket and its failure? Me? I'd grind the bracket off and if it doesn't work I've lost the price of a used pump (I have a few used MK4 TDi pumps on the shelf anyway)
kingkenny100 0 Posted July 18, 2017 Thanks Dox. I did try removing the bolt and it fits, but agree, wouldn't want to remove permanently. Interesting about pressure, that was now my concern, but was sort of hoping all pumps would be the same. Think I'll chop it if later and see how it goes! swiftkid 1 Posted July 18, 2017 I've been using a mk4 pump for years but it didn't have the extra lug, it looked identical to the corrado pump and works exactly the same, mine was from a 4motion though so might be different on a 4pot. I have heard people say its higher pressure but no actual concrete evidence to say so
