Dox 23 Posted February 4, 2019 Same as MK3 Golf etc Tap yours with a hammer to break the rusts hold, then remove the slide pins and wire brush / emery cloth them until clean. Scrape the orifices in the carriers of the rust using a drill bit, clean, lube with grease and refit the dust covers

culshaw 1 Posted February 4, 2019 Thanks, I saw these but wasn't certain it was the right carrier My ones aren't only stuffed with rust. I cleaned them and lubed, but some plank has painted the rubber grommets too
Dox 23 Posted February 4, 2019 As long as they prevent ingress does it matter?
seanl82 23 Posted February 4, 2019 Thanks, I saw these but wasn't certain it was the right carrier My ones aren't only stuffed with rust. I cleaned them and lubed, but some plank has painted the rubber grommets too Mine were like that when I got it too. Seems the PO just used a brush to slap on the carrier and caliper paint everywhere, including the boots and pads! You should be able to clean it all up, and copper grease the slider pins. Replacement boots are pence.
