Super, as I may just try getting a new throttle position sensor. How long is that deal on for?

Seems like there is no stopping the appreciation of an air cooled 911 - low spec low mileage -  all about rwd - manual - air cooled - auction still running - Could of got one of these for 10k - 12 k in the early 2000s  average mileage .

Hmmm says the seller is John Mitchel - Could it be 🤔

Nearly spat my coffee out when i saw this £13k Mk3 16v Golf (5 door too). I do like them and have a similar car with less miles and less doors but thought £5k would be more fitting.

Do like a Mk3 myself - put a set of stern face alloys on them and they look the nuts- they really do carry over sized alloys well.

Funny story about that car.

About 18 years ago (after not buying a friends 964 in the same colour) I decided I was buying a 968 (The 964 was £13k and a 968 (Aventura green, ex-Dick Lovett ) was about £11k)  Did all the homework, and test drove a couple. Did what I usually do and end up talking myself out of it..

Fast forward ten years and Oscar and I are in Formby, doing ( what would become ) our regular trip to the baths, followed by a packed lunch and walk over the sands.

The pull of a 968 had never left me, but having the Campaign in a thousand pieces reminded me that one was out of the question.

Anyway, there we are in Waitrose car park about to park up and nip in for some sustenance , when I spot a 968. Eyes illuminated, I decide to park nearby and have closer look. Smiling from ear to ear I walked away having been elated to see a 968. I mean it was rough, like used every day for every duty and bits hanging off it rough. But clearly a trust worthy companion.

Came back out, in the hope I may catch the owner for a chat, but alas the car was gone.

Fast forward a year or so and we’re back in Waitrose car park. What’s there again … yep you guessed it, the 968.

Cushions on the seats and mileage that suggested Neil Armstrong had once owned it, I started to feel sorry for it. It was in a similar condition to when I got the Campaign, ready to be broken and whoever had owned it last had all of the value from it.

At that point I thought, sack it. I’m leaving my number on the screen and opening up “dibs” on it.

Didn’t have a pen, so after procuring lunch, wrote my number on some paper and headed back outside. To see it pootling off  and out of the car park at a gentle pace.

Probably the best scenario if I’m honest. And I’m not upset, but would have loved to have spoken to the owner about when, where, how and all that.

And then out of the blue, over Christmas I’m at home seeing where 968s are (financially speaking). And there it is, looking all of its age and mileage still.

Would I like to tick the 968 box ? Yes, sure. Would I be willing to restore another 90’s coupe ?

Not a chance.

That’s for the next person.

That looks in very good condition for the age and mileage  - not sure if there is something funky going on with the front sill.

The club sport with the bucket seats was the one to go for but they have got very pricey from been a very good buy a few years back .

It has worn well for the mileage if no restore type work. I think you are right on the sill.

Agree James with your conclusion - I too would not want to go anywhere near a 90s (or earlier) renovation project again.
