Jimyule 10 Posted October 6, 2019 Hi all. Recently been looking at getting myself a weekend toy. I truly wanted a mk1 golf, but funds dont allow. I have about £1500 at my disposal, and looking around I have found a few Corrados in my price range. Can anyone give me anything to look out for other than the usual stuff with buying a used car? Ill be looking at the 16v model, google suggests this about 130bhp, what are the best modifications without going down the engine swap route to get more power, seen a few things about bike carbs? Thank you in advance for any help, new to the Corrado game as mainly owned jap cars.
Dox 23 Posted October 6, 2019 Welcome, if you buy a cheap car you need to do so with your eyes open. Lots of bits are obsolete and command a premium second hand - front wings, all front lights etc etc At £1500 you're looking at a real project and potential money pit. Sorry for the doom and gloom

Sorry for the doom and gloom Welcome, My exact thought to Dox. Last thing I would be thinking about is mods and trying to find a well sorted car. At £1500 imagine the Breakers will be snatching them up.
Keyo 47 Posted October 6, 2019 Probably better off looking at a MK3 golf for that sort of prices as they are still relatively cheap compared to other classics of that era.
geordiedoors 10 Posted December 6, 2019 Good luck finding a mk1 at that price that doesn't need a full resto
