Re-use of rear ABS rotor cages

Recommended Posts

I wonder if anyone has successfully re-used the ABS rotor cages when fitting new rear brake discs.

I get the feeling the consensus is to fit new ones but I see no reason not to have a go and re-use them. I haven't tried yet to remove the old ones but I'm guessing it shouldn't be too difficult to remove them.

I've got the old ones on the rear of my Corrado, but I keep getting ABS faults which I'm betting is for this reason.

The problem is that they are a push fit onto the rear of the disk, so as the disk rusts and expands slightly over time, they get well and truely stuck on. As you remove them, you open them up slightly so they won't fit onto the back of the slightly smaller (rust free!) new disks properly, which allows they to slip when spinning and cause the ABS light to come on.... :(

They're not particularly expensive, (£11 each?) so you might as well replace them while you're in there. But then I went on the same theory and now have a box full of rear suspension parts

i re-used them on mine, with no troubles I guess it depends on how easy they come off, and what you use to take them off, and what they're like once they're off.

I got the garage to soak mine overnight and they were re-used when I had all my brakes done too ;)
