Corrado stock Recaro alternatives.

Recommended Posts

Read thread with interest, I'd love some recaro's and buying new is attractive.

I currently have my seat height at the bottom of it's travels so I'd be worried about these not going low enough. Thansk for contacting them Keyo - should answer concerns.

Matt

Thanks mate as you say its all about the ride height of the seat due to the base - but the S specialist looks the way forward IMO.

They do look low but do they have adjustments to move back and forth and for height? The front mount mechnanism looks similar.

Another idea is to butcher and couple of oem cloth seats and separate the bottoms. I have two in my shed but don't know how to weld alternernate Recaro's in place.

I've also noticed that on VW base seats they have a metal beam underneath with holes in to lock your seat back and forth for leg room etc, cant see them on the seat base. Damn would be all over the Specialist Small in black leather and black Recaro script writing if you could buy these bases. Would 100 percent need to raise and also back and forth agreed.

Just don't want to spend 1.3k plus on some 25 year old worn Corrado Recaro seats, when the specialist S is the modern version and brand spanking new.

Could you not use the bases off your own, or some spare dilapidated Corrado seats to put with the new Recaros?

Granted, I know next to nothing about swapping out seats, but I would have thought that would give the right height and keep the stock adjustment options.

I'm sure that is the way to go but would be great if you could buy the bases.

I think the problem is that the seats are welded to their bases rather than bolted. Recaros do have bolt holes but as the corrado seat sit so low the plug and play bolt method wont work. A pain in the .... . I want recaros too but cant face paying out for 20+ yr old seats either!

You can weld on corrado bases to new recaros. I just dont have those skills.

From my research you can still get these called (seat well) from classics. No 2 on diagram

No 3 is obsolete although there is a new old stock for sale on ebay for one side of the car.

I would just be happy with a manual seat to be honest, not sure I would even be bothered if the seat adjusted up and down.

Think its just one of these thing buy some old stock frames and take them to a fabricator and I want this . Would be great if you could get them off the shelf.

There are two sets of Stock Corrado Recaros for sale at the moment and they look like you would catch the plague off them. Still 1.1 k - 1.5k

I might even call the recaro main dealer in leicester I imagine they have a crap load of contacts.

I'd go for fabric recaros, ideally in the same pattern as the late vr6 cloth. My father in law was a welder but lives 260 miles away and not had the conversation.

It does all sound like a lot of hard work. I purchased a set of Recaro fabric seats off this forum a few years ago. Big money but in fantastic condition so worth it. I would wait for a great set to turn up. Mine were originally from Germany so the drivers seat, which was the passenger seat, had very little use. Just in keeping the Oem look I personally like. The daftest thing I have done to them is fit the genuine vw recaro seat heating elements. Not as warm as the seats in my newer Passat, but a nice touch.

I do agree that a new set Recaro seats would be nice, but without the electric bases, would leave me wanting.

These damned cars do take over our lives, Haha

Good luck with what route you go down

Thanks Cressa.

How much did yours cost ?

I did notice the Recaro heat elements are still available amazingly, not the case for stock leathers though.

Annoyingly doing some research I saw some for sale in 2018 (Black leather) in my home city and seller was asking £600.00 grrrr!

I also saw a post on the GTi forum from 2006 talking about recaro and they said Corrado ones at the time were cheap as chips grrrr ! I think a lot of them ended up rotting in modified Mk2 golfs .

If a good set came up that were black and didn't need re trimming and were about $800-1K I would be tempted but otherwise I would go for the Recaro modern version of them, you can get electrics added but I would be happy with manual as less to go wrong and no loom to source. Its low on the priority list at the moment as I've called Vince and his booking my car in for a full rebuild , will also get my VDO gauge pods fitted at the same time. Having the bottom end rebuild with bores honed out to 3 litres and new matching pistons and full head rebuild.

What are the guides to running in a new engine on VR block . not over so many revs in how many miles on the clock ?

Cheers.

I had to look back for this one. Mine were 1k. Madness at the time and everytime I think about it. But they are great and came with the original loom.

I think we are all MAD

You’ll drive yourself crazy Keyo. The specialist side bolsters are pointier than the original electric ones. There is a very nice set of mint cloth ones on eBay for £1600 with rears to match. They look good value. I typed in corrado recaro in the search and it brought up some seat bases as well that might be useful if you go the new recaro route. Not cheap though. Good luck

I want black leather chap too match my rear seats.

Have you the link for the cloth ones wouldn't mind a look at them though, thanks.

Thing is Sean apparently black Recaros are a solid 2k now so do you go for the new or old, food for thought. Folks forking out 1.5 k for them and then spending upwards of 1k to make them good.

This company in the UK say they make them , picture is for illustration purposes. It says extra for sliders, I'm going to ask them is that including the metal centre beam with the holes in.

Ok, so I am jealous of you having the VDO gauges. I would happily give up my illuminated cassette storage for those. That would make my car complete, ish.

Every Corrado should have left the Karmann factory with these...

I just hope they work mate purchased them second hand and wont be fitted late this summer, they did have a bit of a rattle and I pulled the bulb out and eventually the rattle was a bit of solder that I managed to get out. Time will tell. When they were for sale at Heritage a few years back I would of snapped a set up !
