Driver Edition Brake Parts

Recommended Posts

Hey, so I dismantled a set of DE brake on a Passat b4, it's a nice OEM upgrade. I'm working on those to get them ready for powder coating and now I was looking to get a refurbish kit for the front caliper. I can find the rubber seals no problem but I just can't find anywhere the piston for them?  They are rusted pretty bad. Any idea where I could find these?

Cheers!

Pretty sure same piston as a mk2 golf on the rear 38mm, although the housing/calliper is slightly different for the ( post face lift) later models and VR6, plenty on eBay, or like Sean says and send them off to a specialist if in no rush.

just noticed it’s the b4 Passat ones you’ve got in bits. Are the the same as your vr6 ones, post a pic up

Thanks guys for your help, always appreciated. I looked at Redd's website, they had nothing under Passat B3 or B4?
They are from a Passat VR6 late 1996, it had the OBD2 system so probably the first run of them.
Pistons are shot are per picture!

Yes it's the front! Discs are 11-3/8" so I guess 11.3 like they called them. Both calipers and knuckles have DE on them

Aren't they just callipers  for the standard 288 mm discs as found on golf mk3 vr's gti's etc?

More likely this one though with the year.

ebay item number 272219252319.
where’s Keyo he’s better at this, because I haven’t come across what you are try to achieve matey, I’m just trying to help, I don’t actually know for sure. You’d may have more luck if you can get the part number for the calliper or piston, maybe the dealers can help if you can’t get it online.

OEM part no is 3A0 615 123 and 3A0 615 124 (288mm x25mm ABS set up) found on many VW 5x100 set ups of that era

I read a post on vortex about all the front brake upgrades for the Corrado long time ago. It was written that any passat B4 VR6 were equipped with DE brake which was 11.3 instead of the 11 the Corrado came with. The difference in disc size is not much, the big difference was in the size of the piston and the DE were a good cost effective oem upgrade. All that is needed was calipers, carriers and knuckles. Bolt straight on. Am I wrong? What's starting to make me doubting myself now is they are DE brake as per the stamp on them but they are not red? Too early late 1996? Discs are 11. 3 tough.

Anyways, thank you so much for the eBay link, looks like it is what I need. But I'll be sure I have the right thing first before buying I guess!?

All I can see on the calipers is 731 on one and 732 on the other one. Both ATE 54 DE VW. both have stamped 5345 as well on the calipers.

On the knuckles one has DE GER 255 and the other one is DE CDP 256

Looks exactly the same as the ate 54mm caliper found on golf mk3, the cracked Etka online does not list the pistons as seperate components, frustratingly the ebay compatability checkers are pretty unreliable. I would contact Bigg red ltd for advice.

Yes mate, I totally agree with you there. Ebay is not reliable, etka don't show just the pistons, maybe they were just ment to be fully refurbished...

I was thinking... Do you think mine are silver because they were on a passat but the MK3 GTI got the red version because of the GTI trend to be red?

At this point int I'm starting to think that maybe I should just get new calipers and call it a day if it's that hard to find parts. I have the knuckles so the hardest to get I have already...

Thanks a lot your time to both of you!

Wish I could help but its the part of the car I have not really explored because vince sorted mine out,  said one of the callipers was seized. Does look like Big red is the the man in the know.

However here is a part diagram  with part numbers of individual parts on front and rear brakes. . If you put the part number of the said part in question in search on oempec it will bring all the model of cars from VAG  issued from factory with the same part number.

There are changes in parts in relationship to the year of manufacture , next to the part number says from year to year etc but go from your chassis number.

I wouldn't pay any attention to the colour.

That ate caliper was used on a wide range of vw, audi and skoda vehicles and I can't see there being too much variation in the 54 mm piston length/design. If it was me I would contact bigg red and ask him

Ok here is a diagram for a 1996 AAA vr6 passat

Hope this helps.

Front ATE

Rear  Lucas

Your front callipers came on these cars Front are ATE and rear are Lucas.  Click the correct country of origin on top of page - in your case I would click USA - came on a beetle and Golf so should be a piece of cake to source and probably available from dealers still .

Cars it came on plenty of choice on RHD UK models but also plenty of choice on USA models.

Model assignment of ATE calliper Left 3A0615123  Right 3A0615124

I think the op was struggling to I. D. the correct piston, he mentions being OK for the gaskets

Ok I will try and find the piston, but i'm pretty sure if you put in repair kit for the models above in a search plenty will come up.
