  1. What are your symptoms Jim? I've done 200k on mine and I've been thinking it may be wandering because of the rack. Just replaced all my bearings though, will see how that helps.
  2. ahhh is this why my trim doesn't lift when I open my roof.....
  3. cheers :) Yeah.... wheels are my only concern - Ain't tried them on yet so they might be up for sale soon haha! I have some skanky BBS reps. would love some Modernlines..... maybe one day. Next job is to replace my master cylinder and brake lines for extra powahhh
  4. Hi all, thought you might like to see these - not exactly new news or exciting though! I bought some of these http://www.retrofication.co.uk/413.html came really quick - about 5 days. Then I bought some 280mm Pagid discs, a pair of rear boxster calipers and dissassebled my hubs to replce the bearings with genuine VW items, and naturally new powder coat and all bolts splash guards :bonk: just need to get them onto the car now hose wise I'm thinking.... 5. ahhhh glorious press to be honest I did expect these to be a colostomy of mis-matching not quite fittingness - after a lad I know moaned about it, but it turns out he's a poof. Quite pleased with that. Now's on to the re plumbing job....... now where did I put my flaring tool. Need to ponder some new flexi hoses too
  6. ahh they look really nice. I was pondering changing my mirror glass but on my old shed I'm not sure it's worth it
  7. Thank you. lol just make sure you paint every where - not most places like I did :D
  8. I have been taking my mirrors to bits a lot recently to paint them and also try and fix the internal mountings as i was getting an annoying wind wistle. IIRC, the motor pack and wire are held in with 4 screws to the internal alloy bit - but I could look later I was having fun using a g cramp to de-compress the spring loaded bit with fresh paint!!
  9. ahh mine are in the bin, could have given you some :D
  10. couple of snaps from the weekend... "stuff" Expensive trip to VW... actually an all out expensive weekend :( Actutally this clutch master machine - #358721388 he commented was a Seat part - so maybe if anybody is looking for one Seat might be cheaper / easier to get a hold of them Got some bits powdercoated - which is nice, unfortunately I didn't use my usual guy coz he's a bit far away. When I explained that I didn't want any powder coat on the bearing machine part, I was pleased that he seemed to understand and also commented that the bolts were there to help masking and the threads wouldn't have any powder coat on them... but alas, the usual scottish standard applies... Not sure where this has come from, it was fine... think maybe I got my calipers confused in my pile - which probably means there are some nice unseized calipers in a landfill site in west lothian :( got most of my rear end on - except for brake lines and a little fun last night
  11. lol I just painted mine - could have done a swap :bonk:
  12. Hmmm, not really got much to update you on. I've been trying to finish off my paint which is a bit boring, and also was a bit distracted by a new engine for my MK1... LOLZ getting there.... slowly.... had I not bummed it, blasted sand though it and then ****ed it with a polisher - I would have been really proud of my painting! I only have one run on the whole motor - on the number plate light cover! Anyway - only the wings left to polish... it's a long way from perfect but I'm happy enough and a wee jiz of stone chip in the rear arches
  13. Thanks bro lol well I didn't start with any skills - you should just get stuck in! People say you learn from your mistakes so I'll soon be a pro ;)
  14. Thanks everyone for the kind words :) Can't wait to drive it again! Need to get my next load of bits to the powder coaters
  15. Thanks Fla, means a lot! Last one and we are up to date! I did seem to end up with a load of crud in the paint :bh dunno where it came from! Should polish out OK. Opened up the garage doors for a quick look yesterday - well pleased with the colour, but too scared to start looking for runs and thin bits. The colour is amazing in the sun, well except where my errors are :( pleased to say my extraction worked very well too except.... I got it in the neck :D Well happy! Wanna go put it back together, just need to sit tight for a few days and let it harden properly. -5 yesterday, and -3 this morning :(
  16. So since all that this happened; brrr ....brrrrr I did silver, blue, blue, clear, clear I used 5 litres of blue (1:1) I hope its covered, though there was a baldy bit on the bumper :( Haven't inspected the laquer - will do it when I feel brave enough My appalling attempt at prep and fat arse were the biggest problems so far :bh
  17. Actually.... then I pulled my hubs to bits Look at that, all screws and heads intact! New toy....? ahhh! glorious press! Investment in proper tools - took about 20 seconds to do each side with no damage, swearing, bashed or cut fingers. Glorious. Been talking about a press for about 10 years, wish I'd got one 10 years ago!
  18. Well its nice and light in my wee shed now - 14 6ft "daylight" tubes now sorted! Need to complete painting the walls and floor!! Dunno how much more un-exiting pics like this can get. Kept finding things that I wasn't happy with :bh Ventilation was my next project, no actually I had to refit my WC over Christmas so that put things on hold for a while
  19. Continuing the sleep inducing update-ness When I emptied the rubbish from the boot, I forgot that I had sort of made a board and sub box, so here's a pic of them too :D Was hoping to complete my priming during this session, but when I reached for the spare tin of hi-build, it turned out to be lacquer :cuckoo: :ignore: still got a wee bit sprayed up - I left the smallest remnant of the frigging yellow paint that I was trying to remove, and hey ho - that bit reacted :bh The slam panel looked immaculate from the top except one bubble which I poked at with a screwdriver... not good. So have pulled the panel seeing as it was only a couple of bolts and given a quick rust address, oh and of course, last time I changed the aux belt, like a moron I slipped and bent the top of the panel :( then tying to use my space effectively - some panel mounts out of some **** steel rubbish and despite having a 5 year qualification in concrete mixing, I am incredibly poor at it... 'spose that sums up most of life thought - paper vs. actual experience but hopefully they'll be strong enough for my new work/painting lamps...
  20. Lol I didn't realise I hadn't updated this in a while! So, I wanted something to regret doing, so I did this high danger manoeuvre..... plastic primer is weird.... and also reacted to **** up my hi-build which makes me sad. Annoyingly, My initial intention was to colour code my handles, but I seem to have forgotten to include them in the priming :bh Why am I doing this? I noticed that some new VWs and Audis have gloss plastics therefore in the interest of science, I'm testing the realms of fail..... Well that and my plastics are all cracked to fcuk, or covered in overspray :bh moooooooooooooooooore sanded bits, chilling in the kitchen awaiting primer tonight I hope :) De-fillered and dent bashed out in preparation for refilling and a bit of ye old nail technique could do with some more epoxy mastic.... but also some more finances to enable that :bh So hopefully that the last of the sketchy bits sorted out now - both rear windows had some bubbles - well I noticed the drivers side after it was lovingly smashed bu some little chavs last year, so I chopped them both back out to sort it out. Passenger side was alright really bit of bilt hamber and ye olde epoxy I haven't really finished the arch tidy project I was undertaking (way out of my depth here really) but I had loads of epoxy left so jizzed a bit on to slow the rot coming back 2cm less filler this time :D
  21. Epoxy mastic applied, all be it quite thinly as a) I had **** all and b) I wanted some everywhere I could
  22. TBH I never actually checked, just bunged the lot out :thumbleft:
  23. Here's another pic. It's going to be 1.8T soon, but that's another story of pain and agony
  24. Cheers Fla, glad you enjoyed the read so far :) Porsche brakes to slow the added diseaseil weight, or insane performance upgrade, or just to look nice, depending how full of camber you think I am...:camp: More chipping away - but the stuff I've been doing barely warrants a picture... we all know those jobs.... Equal bit of MK4 bonnet fitted for rust - delete Got some P40!! all I need are some wood screws to hold in the mech and job's a good un ....the fun continues with more rot repair Blobbed in along with a new strip down the front and a nice thick blob of weld down the crease, just in case lol and bilt hamber for good measure Doors off Prep of some kind.... big thanks to whoever covered everything in silicon sealant. :cowboy: Fancy pants new door stand from some rubbish I sound behind my house.... didn't measure it very well LOL Think it may have been scaffolding, but it was so weak, would have been scary to climb Always wondered why the electric mirrors didn't work... moar "prep"
