Corrado on Discovery H&L deals on wheels NOW
dinkus replied to HiAsAKite's topic in General Car Chat
The website says... Deals On Wheels A Scotsman sells his 1977 Cadillac in order to buy a convertible, Mike parts with his 1992 VW Golf GTi, and a born-again biker from Middlesex sells his customised BMW 325. Plus, the featured star buy is the VW Carrado sloping sports hatchback. -
Thanks for your help guys, I'm all for replacing rubber bits. There's no way a piece of rubber (with or without fluid in it) is going to last 10 years, so even if they're not completely dead by now they must be getting that way. Sticking with OE bushes seems to be in order, all that development time spent on the C wasn't for nothing :D If the engine smokes I'm walking away :) but the timing chain thing does make me a bit jumpy. Am I right in saying a bit of chain clatter is ok, lots is bad? From what I can tell the parts alone for new chains is £300ish plus a lot of fitting time, does anyone have any rough guides to cost after fitting? People have also been saying you can get the Passat VR6 chains and tensioner setup which is supposed to last longer, again any comments on that? Engine mounts - kevhaywire seems to like his Vibratech front mount, turn2 gerbox mount and OE rear mount setup, so that could be the way to go. Thanks again for such a great forum, you're all top blokes (and the odd female!) hopefully when I actually get my C I'll be able to help out :)

I've been reading a lot on what to look for when getting a C and the common work that needs doing. From what I can gather, it seems that it's not uncommon to need to replace the bushes. Can anyone tell me firstly how many sets of bushes are there, what ones are usually in need of repacing and how much it costs to get them replaced? From what I can work out, it would appear the rear axle ones are the most common ones to go and the cost for replacing them is in the region of £200? Vibratech ones seem to be highly recommended as they keep the original ride comfort but improve the handling? How true is this, or is it worth sticking with OE ones? I'm going on the assumption that the bushes won't have been replaced since new, so at the moment it seems like a good idea to get a cheaper, higher mileage VR6 that has almost shot bushes. Then I can replace them and the front engine mount (Vibratech one?) as the first thing I do. I then get the best handling out of the car without feeling guilty about throwing money at a car I just bougt. Is there anything else to look out for on a high(er) mileage (100k+) VR6's? I hear rumours of irregular bore wear...any inclination of mileage that it happens, or ways of checking for it? Engine rebuilds don't really appeal that much :)

Dang but the more pics the merrier :D I'm in Canda til July though, so I have time to scour autotrader and the like to find the perfect C :)

yeah that's pretty tasty.. definitely the favourite option. Don't suppose you're thinking of selling are you Joe? :D

I'm looking for a VR6 C and a leather interior would be nice but I'm not sure on colour. The grey leather sounds like the nicest option, as the black seems to make it a bit dark inside from the pics I've seen. Do the leather trims all come with a matching dash colour? Anyone got pics of a grey leather trim? Thanks guys and if anyone has a blue/black VR6 with grey leather trim they are thinking about selling I'll be buying early July.... :D

Sorry to dredge this up from the history books, but did you guys get anything sorted with video clips in the end? I know the Corrado Club of Canada have the Top Gear segment up from the 23rd November, but does anyone have any other Corrado clips? If you need hosting I have space that can be used and I'd love to get some more Corrado on tape action :)

My friends have managed to get out of tickets from officers by boring them to death. Asking for calibration certificates and whatever else will just annoy them. However "yeah I noticed it took off quite quickly up that hill, this new air filter I've got is much more free flowing, I bought it from this really nice place down the road and it took me 3mins to install, but you know this piece of plastic here was getting in the way and I had terrible trouble removing it an....zzzz" Either that or interesting conversations about the number of Corrado's in existance, the fact that they're based on Golf's and Passats, they were all made by Karmann not VW etc, etc. Eventually they just get bored and give up :) You don't annoy them by asking for stuff that they will almost certainly have and you get to educate the lovely officer in the process :D It's worth a go anyway...

Thanks for info John, judging by the photos and people's comments, it certainly seems to do the job. All I need now is a Corrado to use it on... :)

Can I ask what is the difference between something like T-Cut and Swissol/Zymol? I'm not trying to be rude, I'm just interested as they sound like they do roughly the same thing. There obviously must be some difference between them otherwise the price wouldn't be as much, so hopefully you can enlighten me....

I must say that TT dash looks great... dare I ask how long it took you to do? Is it a straight fit apart from the wiring or do you need to cut it about a lot?
