the extra wire is just a bit of loom for cars with the optional oil pressure gauge in the centre console, it ends just behind the fuseboard.

so helpful   just to elaborate a bit, the VR6 has a fully electronic ignition/injection system controlling the injectors directly, the 16v systems are quite different, the 1.8's having no electronic control of the main injectors at all (mechanical fuel injection) the ECU only controlls ignition advance. the 2.0 16v ECU is a different part and has some basic 'influence' on fuel delivery(to help it run with a CAT mainly) but is based on the same system as the 1.8 16v.

I've seen recon units for over 300 quid :( part of the problem as crasher says, is that people tend to mess with them to try to compensate for other problems rather than correctly diagnosing dodgy other parts of the system, lambdas etc... I think you're referring to the differential pressure regulator on the side of the unit, basically an ECU controlled warm up/ control pressure controller, similar function to the WUR on a basic K-jet.

I did 60mph all the way down the motorway to work the other morning for a laugh, I was late anyway. MFA from home to slip road of m-way read 47.9mpg, I reckon I could have got that up another 5 or so by slip-streaming the lorries rather than overtaking them :)

Did you move the car at all on it's wheel without the driveshafts in place?, this will trash the bearings. Did you check out the old CV joint for wear, clean it up and you should be able to see the state of the ball bearings and races? If it's not too bad then perhaps it was the bearings all along. What quality were the top mount bearings, I've heard cheap ones can last all of 5 minutes.

support engine and loosen front engine mount?

most mk2 golfs and a few mk3's use the same pump and pulley, it'll be 'f'-ing hard t odrive with no PAS

a few Canadian C's for your Friday afternoon:

They're now £95! Feck! Any-one got a trade card I can borrow? Or a cheaper alternative.... that's why I got a hella, cost me IRO 30 quid, it's at least a 64Ah possibly higher, asked the supplier what the difference was with the Bosch they had at 20 quid more, his reply was the warranty, they charge you more to cover the longer warranty

'pop' the head in the post  :)

those valves can be problematic, try swapping just the valve with one from a golf, passat, mk3 golf etc. even if the pumps have slightly different bodies and pulleys the valve inside is the same, cured it on my pump, the valves can stick particularly if muck in the system scores the walls of the drilling in the pump, that would require a whole pump though, I simply got a pocket full of old valve bits from a scrappy. If the rack seals were duff I'd have thought you wouldn't get the symptoms you describe, as it's obviously the valve in the rack opening that is calling for pressure from the pump. You may also notice the reservoir churning around if the valve is sticking, as the pressure will be applied all the time, not just when turning.

easy really, once the inlet boot is removed the main issue is removing the long allen bolts that go through everything into the side of the manifold, a quality allen socket is needed for this, you'll just shaft the bolt heads attempting it with an allen key.

I've had a corrado wheel on a mk3 polo (same adapter as corrado column) and then fitted an early mk2 golf wheel to the same polo, so I see no reason why the early wheel wouldn't fit the corrado column and work correctly with horn etc, apart from the dreaded removal of the adapter ring, you need a puller for this really. On the polo everything was sprung loaded against the adapter so you had to push the early wheel on to compress the column springs back, fiddle but easy enough.

another option is an equaivalent Hella battery, I got one of these for 20 quid less than the equivalent spec SIlver, just has one year less warranty, but it's already lasted longer than both of my previous silvers did, looks about the same quality.

yep, too expensive for GSF to sell on at a sensible price IIRC

I thought half the accidents in east anglia consist of people driving off the road into fenland drains, never to be seen again, probably why they don't end up in the statistics. no, the roads are so congested down south it's difficult to get up enough speed to hurt yourself.

make sure it's an AGC code cable change box from a Corrado or passat (1.8 16v), A 2.0 16v or mk3 golf 16v box will go in but the ratios are longer and will slow acceleration. An 8v passat box will be far too long legged. The gearbox code can be found on a flat surface close to the selector tower, look in the gearbox info in the wiki.

depends on the tyre to some extent, some have fairly rigid sidewalls on relatively high profile tyres so can still be uncomfortable. Low profile usually just reduces sidewall movement though, this may or may not improve the 'feel' of handling, but it doesn't necessarily improve grip, again a lot depends on the type, quality and brand of tyre. A low profile tyre will generally tend to follow white, lines, ridges in the road etc more. It's possible they may wear faster too as there's usually less flex in the sidewall.

Skodas have just as good build quality as VW's, if not better. The later the car the better the feel to the trim too. Fabia has always been a bit plasticy for my liking. To be honest the Ford/PSA TDCI's are better than the VW 1.4/1.9 engines now, the new focus 1.6 TDCI seems the pick of the smaller diesels at the moment.

maybe a separate policy specifically for what you have, through a broker would be a better bet?

just pm me when closer to the time when you're free, perhaps next week then, one evening after 6 would be good - rain permitting!

I think the main problem is the off-the-shelf policies, they all seem to cover things like shed contents etc. but have limits to total amounts and individual item amounts, like 150 quid for an individual bike etc. Trouble is they whack the premium up if you want higher cover, simple example being my wife's wedding ring, as it was over their max single item value they wanted to almost double the contents premium to cover a bit more for one specified item, made it almost pointless to take out, which I don't see any logic in???

only one type of hinge, yep.

according to ETKA, there's only one 4 cylinder subframe for manual cars, 535 199 315C, right through from 1990-1995

mate, if you want to pop by sunday pm or one evening I'll have a listen/look at it for you, offers there if you want, I'm only down the road. David.
