Late citroen AX (well you did say ) :) They're so light they give great mpg and none of the potentially expensive issues of an old high milage diesel. Plenty of spares from breakers if anything does go wrong. A pug 106 is a bit more of a car, similar and probably cheaper than the equivalent Saxo, probably get a diesel for under a grand on a P or R plate but I'd go for a petrol. David.

Don't think it does, I've had a go myself, I think the golf switch is also missing the sidelights on indicator or the illuminated light symbol, one or the other. David.

just make sure any drain holes that should be clear are kept clear, don't want waxoil keeping the moisture in

I've got one of those DEH4700's and it's pretty good, especially for the money, I had an old, but top of the range Alpine unit before, and with the exception of a few features, like auto volume adjust and 2 sets of pre-outs I can't fault the Pioneer (facia trim surround is a bit flimsy). MP3 feature is great, no need for a cd changer anymore. David.

It's corrado specific, although on mine the motor bolts in to the mech and could probably be swapped for a similar one from another VW. Replacing the mech is grief but do-able. You need to strip the door, detach the glass from the mech and tape it in the up position the drill the rivets out. They take pretty large rivets when you put the new ones in. I'll be surprised if you get away without scraped knuckles doing this job :x It's also nice and waxy and oily in there just to make it worse. For some reason one of my motors jammed and by undoing the 2 bolts (star drive) that connect the motor to the mech (just reachable) and tightening it back up it all worked again OK, been OK for a few months now. David.

I think it's part of what I like about my Corrado, always something to do on it or something new to try out, I've finally come to the conclusion I would be lost if I ever finished my to-do and wish list. :)

Does anyone know where I can get a used door handle?
davidwort replied to IndianredG60's topic in Suppliers Forum
or you could fit a de-locked passat rear handle in it's place, probably around a tenner from a scrappy. David. -
The old audis are tanks and although they have the grip, the handling never seems that good to me probably partly due to the weight. try the driving position in the S2, not a patch on the Corrado IMO. I never really saw them as a worthy successor to the ur quattro, but they are well screwed together. David.

Nope, 3 small water temp ones around the water outlet on side of head and a small oil temp sender just around the back of the head, IIRC they are all black topped, only the G60 has a blue sender on water outlet on front of head, 16v doesn't have any senders here. David.

That GSF carb golf radiator is the same size but not the same number of cores as a 16v radiator, I only found that out once GSF had sold it to me and I decided to give it a go, no problems so far running with a 2L block too, but it's probably not as efficient as the proper 16v one. I think you're looking at around 120 quid for the proper 16v rad, not sure if GSF stock it though, ECP do I believe, but try VAG for a price. I've not seen hotter temps on the water or oil with this 'wrong' rad even throughout this summer, but the rad fan does seem to stay on after I turn the ignition off quite regularly. David.

13.8v should be fine, providing it doesn't drop loads when you switch all the electrics on, I'd say it's more likely to be a wiring/switch contact problem with that age of car, you could wire one of the lights permanently on to test that before going for a relay(loom) setup, although that is a good investment on a corrado anyway. The alternator diodes can give up on that type/age of alternator, but that will generally result in a 12-12.5v or less charge to the battery with the engine running. David.

That's dead smart  were you steering with your knees when you took that and eating a pasty at the same time?? In any case a vw speedo can easily over-read by more than 15mph at that speed anyway.
-
'use the search Luke' :) lots of info on this in various threads.

you obviously haven't seen the suspension on the front of a polo, they were designed for 45hp 1L engines  All they did with the G40 was put bigger bushes in there, not justified cost wise to develop a whole new suspension setup for just the G40, it doesn't even have wishbones, the ARB makes up half of the support, this was always the weak spot on the polo, fast in a straight line but completely inadequate suspension design for a large amount of power through the front wheels.
-
I've always thought the later C front looks a bit bloated and bland compared the the original design, but then I'm biased :) I also had a mk1 golf and the multi slat grille sort of reminds me of that old car. I guess VW were just trying to tie the Corrado into the VW family style at the time (Vento got rear lights similar to the C, and the passat front went similar to the C too around 93), I just don't think the bulged bonnet and flusher lights did a lot for the Corrados looks, I'm sure plenty will disagree though. David.

I'm sure I can find one for you for a couple of quid if you can't get it from GSF etc, I must have one somewhere in my garage, pm me if you still need one. David.
-
You can't use the golf flywheel, you'll need the flywheel that matches the 02A cable change box in the C, the golf one is for the old rod change boxes. David.

Don't think it's a great idea really, you can't beat a fully mappable fuel and ignition system and carbs cost a lot to set up as there's few people who know what they're doing. If you wan't the most poke from a 2.016v then either look for a stand alone ECU system or a re-mapped ABF ECU (mk3 golf/ibiza) or ultimately throttle bodies and a stand alone ECU, this will give you optimum torque through the rev range. You'll also get crap fuel economy from carbs and probably suffer running problems in the winter weather. The main benefit is having 'something a bit different'. David.
-
Not biased either way but there's a lot that doesn't add up there, for instance 131mph for a claimed 190-200bhp G60, I'd expect 140mph plus there easily. ...and 1 sec quicker to 60 and 1/4 mile - my old polo weighed 750kg, a g60 will be near 400kg heavier! put 40 paving slabs in the back of the same polo and see how it runs then  David.

Won't make any difference to hp though, the golf exhaust system might, the back sections are not the same parts as the C. David.
-
Yeah, old "better" type Haynes manual. here we are:
-
The golfs had mostly 50mm inlets on the KR and different exhaust system components, may well be that the late golf 16v's with 42mm inlets only made 136bhp, but more likely they all vary so much from car to car it's irrelevant. Not sure how they arrive at power figures but I think it's a test of a sample of units, so they may have repeated the tests when the C and passat came out and hit a slightly different figure. KR's all tend to make better than 140bhp if in good condition though, regardless of car. David.
-
Are they bonded? The mk1 golfs were just a rubber seal, did one at home on my own. David.
-
I had similar problems a few years back, they did the car at the depot but it leaked water and the trim just fell out of the A pillar, after taking it back once and them squeezing a bit of extra sealant in I gave up with them and fixed the leak and trim myself with some black silicone from Halfords, it's been OK since then. But as you say they all hate doing corrado screens because they are so difficult to get right. David.

Breakers in Northampton had a complete passat roof in great nick, so what do they do?... pick the car up by putting a fork lift through the front windscreen and bend the roof like this ^ in the process  ... :x Last time they had one in they only wanted 25 quid for the whole thing too  David.
