Think it's all in the Haynes Passat one Alex, I'll have a look this eve and scan it for you if it's all there, there's certainly loads of torque settings listed. If not my dad built my 6A from a bare block so will have the info somewhere, he's certainly got piles of Autodata reference books at work which must have that info in. David.

If it's only just sweating a bit then a wipe around might get it by the tester, but I wouldn't wan't to drive my car much with a leaking front shock, pretty much as dangerous as defective brakes. David.

Road speed sensor??? there's an electonic unit on top of the gearbox that sends a signal to the speedo - about a fiver from a scrappy I'd have thought, probably same on passats. A mass/flow meter - I guess you mean the fuel distributor and air flow plate/cone unit on a 16v, I would have thought you could have picked one of these up second hand for under 50 quid, I'm sure I've seen them reconditioned and sold with a warranty for less than 200. try volks-apart http://www.volkswagenspares.com/ David.

it changed on chassis number 50-N=001 487, earlier than this is the same as a golf 2 16v, after this the splines to the steering column are different I think and the part is 192 422 061K (only a corrado part), rather than 'P' suffix (golf 2 16v). David.

I was told by GTI Engineering years ago that dyno rig tested golf gti engines produced maximum power output with the oil regulated to 107 deg C, that was on Mobil 1 I think (whatever spec it was circa 1990). I'd imagine either side of that figure the power would tail off ever so slightly. David.

Doesn't sound too bad, perhaps a little on the high side for a G60, if the water temp is controlled OK by the cooling system then not too much to worry about. A change of oil and filter first if not been done then a new heat exchanger and radiator will improve things if they are old, surprising how much better a new rad can be at dissipating heat compared to an old scaled up one, again a new heat exchanger will be more efficient at transferring oil heat to the water cooling system. David.

driven off a cam IIRC, thats why they have thumping great cam belts and frequent service intervals on them, loads of strain. David.
-
why? they're much the same, both are 1984cc and have basically the same head, power potential is much the same through tuning, only really the 9a inlet cam that lets things down. Granted the ABF injection system is more advanced but it doesn't give you anything noticable on the road. David.

2L 16v with a 1.8 kr flowed head and cams, about 400 miles to a tank which equates to about 35mpg overall, tank to tank full. MFA is usually a bit more optimistic at around 37mpg, but then I do mostly 20 mile runs on the motorway to and from work plus a couple of miles stop start. Being 16v and breathing well at the top end it will drink fuel pretty heavily if you hammer it though, or when tootling around town. David.

get the Best Quality ones, not sure but would suggest the (GEN) item, whatever you do don't get boge uprated gas ones, I did this on my valver and they were rock hard. David.

bump stops may be pretty worn, you can replace the other mounting rubbers from VAG fairly cheaply too, but it doesn't really make any difference as they don't wear badly. David.
-
Similar to the UK I guess, you must have to record certain modifications that are made, like colour changes or capacity. There must be a few Diesel and 4*4 C's in the UK now. David.

No offence Tempest, but wasn't the 'rocco the Capri equivalent in Germany too :)

Get a second hand one, replace the plastic cable connection bit on the top of the selector unit though, they break up and eventually snap leaving you stranded, every one I've seen on passats and the like are close to failing, the latest VAG part should have superceeded the one on the C and be a bit stronger. The selector unit as a whole from VW would cost you hundreds new! David.

K-jets are renowned for running lean at the top end, fiddling with the WUR can help a bit but as it affects the whole rev range it may run too rich lower down. Until I get on the rollers again I just tweaked my WUR a bit and check the plugs to make sure they're not too black. David.

Standard wheel size on my 16v (half worn tyres) and it reads nearly 35 at 30mph (travelling towards one of those flashing speedo signs). David.

replacement rear speakers? i found sommet in the dash?
davidwort replied to Riley's topic in ICE 'n' Secure
I got JBL 4" rounds for mine, had to cut the pods for the magnets to fit in and a little mod or two to fix them securely, but rounds are generally better built for the same money- got this advice from my local ICE dealer, who probably just wanted shot of some stock  but they've always sounded pretty good to me. Corrado's varied from 1100kg for an early 1800 16v up to about 1250kg for a vr6, possibly more depending on options. The G60's were roughly in between that, just below 1150kg. In comparison a stripped out mk1 golf can be well under 750kg and a fully kitted out mk2 only about 900kg. A 1988 CRX weighs just over 800kg. David.

The early corrado rack is the same as the 16v golf, 8v is slightly different ratio I think, certainly a different part No.. David.

If you know your way around the passat/corrado gearbox and fittings I don't see why you couldn't do it in a day, I've done this with no special garage equipment at home a few times. I'm no mechanic but it only takes me about a couple of hours to fit the 02A gearbox, driveshafts, starter etc.. It helps to have stuff like engine supports and winches though if you have no-one to help. David.

just undo the ps pump filler hose (jubilee clip), it all drains from the pump, reservoir and most of the hoses. When I re-filled mine I read the Haynes advice on priming the pump with fluid before operating, but as soon as you connect the pump feed hose and add fluid to the reservoir it runs straight through anyway. Just start the engine, wind the steeering from lock to lock several times till it quietens down and top up the reservoir. David.

you pull the plastic tab on the end of it up (where the thumb is in the pic) and the cable end slides off, they are the same as 91/92 onwards passats and probably mk3 golfs, early corrados without the shifter weight use a different fitting. according to my old price list these are 40 quid plus vat from vag!!! worth ringing a dealer though this must be different now, probably more  Second hand ones are often starting to crack or break up though. Part no. 1J0 711 256, carrier lever, for cars after chassis no: 50-N-006 001 David.

you at least need a large vice and some large sockets to use as pushers, a press is preferable, if using OEM parts its easier to get new wishbones with the bushes installed, in your case you will need to hack saw or push the old ones out. Not too difficult to do, but best to have all the kit a workshop has on hand. Drop links can snap too when taking the old ones out if they are badly corroded. David.
