  1. Sounds like a flat (or at least low) battery to me. Try a jump start?
  2. You will need to find the control unit behind the dash (usualy behind the glove box). The easiest way to locate it is to set the alarm off and follow the clicking sound of the relays.
  3. A Serpi Star with that remote is defenatly not CAT1 or even CAT2-1 The Immobiliser fob is a Laserline so theres a 99% chance that it is CAT2

I found a Golf site with some details of a xenon mod. I'll try to find the link for you

  8. PM me with your address and I'll post them to you
  9. The blue wire runs directly to the battery warning light on the dash. If the bulb blows the alternator wont charge. Check the bulb Check continuity of the blue wire between the dash and alternator Check that the bulb has a 12v ignition supply Sounds as if 18v may have blown the bulb or melted something behind the dash

  11. If its the one I'm thinking of its a compact type, so the siren holds all of the electronics. To identify it : Locate the siren in the engine bay, remove the rubber gator and you should see two plugs. If there are that's the bit to strip. If threes only one small (2 or 3 pin) plug the control unit will be behind the dash (usually behind the glove box).
  12. Is it an OE Scorpion? Sounds like it! The indicators staying on is a common fault with Scorpion systems of that age, its caused by pitted relay contacts inside the unit (often due to moisture ingress). It can be fixed but the alarm unit will need stripping down and the relay either cleaned or replaced. As for the false alarms, if you follow the cable down from the sensors you should find a small control unit with an adjuster screw, try turning the sensitivity down a bit, that might help. I have to say that its probably time to think about replacing it, they were never the most secure system (there goes £300) Not all bad news though, if you take the guts out of old Scorpion alarms they make a rather attractive pen holder for your desk :D
  13. Not sure theres such a thing as a shark fin for FM radio. I've fitted these GPS/Cellular ones though.
  14. No your right Meta are one of the few that don't.
  15. All new cars with dead locks require an ignition override by law, so when you turn the ignition on, the deadlocks are releaced. I dont know if early deadlock cars have that feature so its essential that its tested if your fitting switches to lock your self in. Another thing I ment to say to Andy T: Most car alarms have the ability to lock/unlock the doors with the ignition. Its worth finding out if yiur system can be set up for it before you spend hours fitting the switch.
  16. Yeah perfect. I'd use an ignition live to feed the switch though, so it wont work when the ignition is off. Bit more secure.
  17. Your best bet would be to use an electric window switch. If you get a VW one it will match the other switches and if your lucky and have a blanked off switch hole on the dash it'll just click in. The wiring is prety simple. Connect the common terminal to +ive, the up terminal to the unlock wire on the car, the down terminal to the lock wire of the car and insulate the other two terminals. One important safety issue to check though. If the car has dead locking make sure you can unlock the doors from inside with the handle. You dont want to be stuck in a burning car!!!!!!!
  18. No probs. I worked for an alarm dealer once who charged fifty quid a time to re-set VW scorpion systems on frosty mornings, he'd do three by 9 o'clock and have the rest of the day off.
  19. Depends on the alarm. If it's a Scorpian (VW branded usually a square fob with one or two square rubber buttons) you need to follow this procedure. Disconnect the battery, close all of the doors, hold down or disconnect the bonnet pin switch, reconnect the battery and hold down the left button on the fob. Dont let go of the bonnet switch until the alarm has disarmed.
  20. Your sort of right. The alarm has seperate lock and unlock wires so you'll need two relays (standard 12v switching relays will do). For the locking relay connect : PIN 86 : +ive PIN 30 : +ive PIN 85 : To gray wire from alarm PIN 87 : To vehicle lock wire (red/yellow) For the unlock relay connect : PIN 86 : +ive PIN 30 : +ive PIN 85 : Brown wire from alarm (this wire is like speaker wire coming from the alarm cut and insulate the brown white side) PIN 87 : To vehicle unlock wire (Red/Black) Two relays will do the same job as a CL65 unit but it wont be as neat. For an extra few quid its worth going for the AutoWatch unit Ive added them to my web site if you want to see one HERE
  21. The best place to buy fobs for any alarm is Techtronics 0161 872 6275. They can supply a patern fob for just about system from the code inside your origional remote for around £30 there miail order too
  22. You need an AutoWatch CL65 relay. There are two ways to connect it depending on how confident you are with electrics. The easier way (and to be fair this is how most alarm fitters do it). Follow the instructions that come with the CL65 but use the gray wire for the lock pulse instead of the brown. Connect the relay to the car at the wiring loom coming out of the drivers door. The proper way (this is how vw dealers do it). Follow the CL65 instructions but use the gray instead of the brown wire. Connect the relay to the car close to the locking pump. Fit a blocking diode in the red/yellow wire between the your connection and the drivers door. By doing it this way it stops the windows opening when you disarm the alarm (a common problem on all vw's of this age) You should be able to get a CL65 and a blocking diode from any AutoWatch dealer but if you get any problems let me know and I will send you them with a fitting diagram. Hope that made sense. Let me know
  23. 160RLi maybe The total close wire on a 160RLi is gray, but it needs to go through a relay to convert it from -ive to +ive. The windows should close when you hold the key over on all corrados! That might be your problem. Did the alarm ever close the locking?
