Popped into the body shop today to see progress. N/S wing realigned. Panel gaps spot on now. Bare metal now in primer & rest of car prepped for paint. In case anyone is wondering, yes the door handles have been removed, just not disconnected from wiring. Also having the petrol filler flap removed & fuel tank neck to address that area too. Rear windows now not being removed as can't get anyone local that fancies doing it! Thanks! Good luck with yours. :thumbleft:

Not really I'm pleased to say. It's only once it's down to bate metal the true extent of any rust can be assessed & there's really nothing that concerns me. Certainly no welding required. The body shop man is pleasantly surprised! The previous owner, Steve (Furno) on here did a good job of preserving the car with good old fashioned Waxoyl!

Had camera this time! Two quick shots of the arches & bottom of wings & as can be seen in the pictures they've come up really well & should last for many years to come. Prep should be finished this week & some paint applied next week.

Popped into the bodyshop today to see progress. Both complete wings & sills taken back to bare metal. All good. :thumbleft: Forgot camera. Not good! Renovated door trims with Forever Black & sealed with Collinite No. 845. I think they've come up rater well. Also decided to paint number plate light surround as not perfect due to rust from screws. Will replace with stainless when refitting.

A few pics of some bits I've collected to go on the car. The roof trims & original exhaust came with he car! The expansion tank came from my local VW dealer. Springs & dampers not on yet, that's phase 4. Next, off to my detailing man. Then full service & mechanical assessment by a mate of mine. Ex VW Master Tech with 21 years experience. Then suspension overhaul. Do mechanical jobs in order of importance whilst, hopefully, using & enjoying the car during the Summer. At the end of the Summer I'm taking the car to a well known lad on here to exchange the dash as it has a number of unsightly holes from mobile phone kits. Heater matrix on the 'to do' list too.

Quick update. Car in body shop, in bits! Front wings & bonnet had to be taken back to bare metal & pleasingly all are pretty much rust free. Phew! N/S front arch has had a small ding hence some filler there & rear N/S C piller had small ding that could not be removed so had to be filled. Wheel arch liners removed for thorough check, cleaned & all new, genuine, arch fixings purchased for refitting. New Hella wing indicators too. Front & rear bumpers removed & stripped right back. All sound. Side mouldings removed, renovated prior to refitting. Side windows out next week then both sides of car prep'd for paint. I'm very pleased to report that following rear bumper removal the rear arches are very good. Just one very small area with minor rust on N/S arch. The whole car, except roof, tailgate & rear panel being painted. The rest, once polished will be very good. I took a bit of a gamble buying the car & it's only once bits are removed you can truly see what you have. It could have been a lot worse! Here's a few pics. I know exactly how you feel as I wanted a Mystic Blue Storm. Fortunately I got one from a member off here. It wasn't exactly what I wanted, but I knew I could make it what I wanted. The problem, as I'm sure your aware, with Mystic Blue Storms is they just don't come up for sale very often so, unless your very patient, you have to take what comes along & unless it's a right dog & providing you have the time & money you can make it the car you want. As I type mine is in the body shop in the process of a fairly comprehensive restoration. Phase 1!!

Many thanks for that. That looks really very good for the price. I'm off to Halfrauds!

Can anyone recommend a good quality indoor car cover that fits the Corrado properly? Ideally one with pockets for the door mirrors. I've been searching & ended up going round in circles!

Agreed. The Corrado is a lot more car. Also, one of the reasons I bought the 944 as couldn't afford another MK2! Who'd have thought it? Several lads from the old RSOC went down the 944 route too. I still think the Corrado is a bit of a hidden gem in the classic car world ..................... for now?
-
Absolutely no issues. Mine has some sort of device inbuilt that protects the battery.
-
I had a MK2 RS2 for nine years. I knew, one day, they'd be worth a few quid. Sold it for 4.5k (just before prices went silly) & was sold last year for nearly 20k! Motorsport credentials help the MK1 & MK2 Escort prices no end. I think the Corrado's time is coming, maybe not to the extent of Escorts, but who knows ?
-
Yep, that type of thing. The exact model I have isn't there. Two years ago so may have changed. I'd go for the highest wattage one. I mounted mine to the garage roof, reason being there is no mains electric where I store it so solar power it had to be! They work from light so should work behind glass. Aprart from the initial cost they cost nowt to run & are maintenance free. A winner in my book.
-
Chuggs, Just an idea if your Corrado is not used as a daily. I keep my battery topped up with a solar trickle charger. Got mine from Maplins for about £35.00 I think. Been up for two years & used on the 944 (notorious for battery drain)prior to the Corrado. Never once failed to start at the first turn of the key. Prior to using a solar charger I went through numerous batteries on other cars that were not used daily.

Wayne, http://www.the-corrado.net/showthread.php?t=90142 Don't know if he still has it but worth a PM.

Chuggs. Of course your bang on!

It's done 134,000 & it's worn quite well I think. 4 previous owners with good history. Not a lot of choice when it comes to Mystic Blue Storms so some compromises had to be made. Drives well, just the coilovers spoiling it for me. The other plus point is I got some good spares with the car. Two new roof trims, a spare (used but vgc) genuine exhaust & a box of various other goodies. The front end is going in for paint. it's not that bad & perfectly useable as it is but there is the start of some corrosion on the front arches so I want it done before any further deterioration. Also the nearside wing needs realigning. Not serious, just me being picky! once that's done it should be quite tidy.
-
Agreed, they don't sound that good now, but was going to keep the head unit for originality. I don't know. I've got a spare new JVC unit I could fit if the mood takes me.
-
Forgot to mention it also has the original Sony CDX600 cd/radio still fitted, along with the remote controller (naff!) which will be removed.
-
Brilliant! Thanks for that. It's going in for some work soon & a vagcom scan was on the list. I know from the history i got with the car some, not all the sensors have been replaced, so I think you could be spot on.
