ok my girlfriend left me tonight. heres where im up to with the car... got upto the unit earlier on,and my dad had checked the timing-all fine. he had the head off,we couldnt see anything visibly wrong and he rang an old mate who said he would check it out. we took it over,he said theres quite a bit of play in the valves (side to side),and said he needs to strip it and check it out. will find out tommorow whats what. meanwhile i took off the crank pully, how tight! the good news is that its mint 8) the crank slot is perfect and so is the pully notch jobby. the bad news is,i dont know what the problem is now,so it depends on weather the valves or guides or something are fecked? maybe? hopefully? ps:my dad never did the compression test or leak test  so the head is being sorted v cheaply hopefully, credit card will more than likely have to be used again :x and ill probably save up some cash for all the bits im gonna need, which brings me onto a couple of questions... 1/on the aux pully, theres a dot,and further round theres a line with a t on one side and a circle on the other side. what do i line up where to time the aux pully up? also there seems to be a bit of play in this pully, not sure if its normal or not? 2/my list of bits needed, have i missed anything? cambelt kit. head gasket set. new head bolts needed? exh manifold gaskets. inlet manifold gaskets. thats all i can think of right now,my heads in bits tbh. :( neil.

i appreciate the kind words guys. :) my girlfriend left me tonight. strange how all of a sudden the corrado is my friend, ive been up at the unit, messing with it to keep my mind off other things... im not really sure if im gonna sell it or not,but for now im gonna get it back up and running. a mate of my dads is helping by checking the head out,and im gonna either have to save some cash to get the bits to rebuild or just whack it on the card again, gonna have to use all the money from selling the sportline which ive been wanting to advertise for god knows how long now. neil.
-
thanks gavin, im off up there now for a quick look. ive written down the figures. neil.
-
£50 :!: what compression readings should we get gavin? is the leak down test where you fill the cylinder(s) with air,and feel for any loss through the rocker breather/exhaust etc? neil.

just got through,he told me to shut up and said it was natural to check everything just before the head came off anyway. he is an oldskool mechanic, bit rusty like but he's alright.
-
still trying to get through  its a business phone he has... what ya reckon? the guy at the garage checked the timing anyway and said it was ok? and we had just double checked the valve timing,it was actually a tooth out,but ran the same after altering it a tooth. :?
-
ok gav, phoning my dad right now! :D
-
nice one m8 8) do you think a sticky valve or pumped up tappet could be the problem? i have my doubts as it tends to stop the weird backfiring thing,it clears up after ticking over for a bit. still dosnt drive though....

dave,gavin,anthony-cheers. :) a little update: after some serious family problems last night,i lost the plot a little. at around 11.30pm i just got in the cab and drove away from everyone, went to see my best m8 who's plaque is in the local grave yard. its a real quiet place with loads of trees and wotnot, real nice and peacefull. sat watching a hedgehog,it was running about like mad! near the road on a grass verge,i stayed untill it went back through some gates into the graveyard, was ready to jump out the car and kick it back in  >did i really need to type all that so anyway,i was up at the unit untill around 2.30am,started taking the head off the car going off the mechanics advice. he said it needs to be looked at really? got as far as taking the inlet manifold/exhaust manifold off which was fun. :D and thats as far as ive got. my dads at the unit right now cracking on with it. so anthony are you gonna hunt me down? or can i just pm you my number if i get stuck,i think as ive got it to this stage now that its a case of just see if theres anything visualy wrong, and also inspect the crank pully and fit the dx bolt etc at the same time. neil.

Will a steering wheel boss for MK2 Golf fit Corrado ?
Riley replied to BigTartanJudge's topic in Interior
same with the mk2's,just not sure on the year of when they used the larger pushed on spline. if your c does have the smaller spline, the larger one can be bought from vw and fitted. for example, the wheel and boss from my 1992 cab fit straight into my 92 c,so if the mk2 boss is a late one,it 'should' fit straight on. im just not 110% neil. -
why did you give up the racing m8? was it stress/money related? tell me to shut up if im poking my nose in. just wondering if it felt like a weight off your shoulders? neil.
-
unfortunately m8,i know how bad things can get. ive just recently, well in the past 12 months, pulled through a long spate of depression. but i dont really want to go into that here. all ill say is that its easy to slide down the ladder of life, but hard to get back up there... :? sorry,im not trying to turn this into a sob story or anything,im not like that. neil.
-
 that made me laugh for the first time today.
-
not anyone who specifically knows about em darren, just so called mates who will help. in fact i lost a m8 today,he was going to lend me the timing light but as i pulled up i heard him say something that i didnt appreciate so i just drove off,and he can kiss my arse tbh.dont want to go into it but i just feel pretty shit at the minute. like i want to go to bed and not wake up...

the later mk2 boss's will fit,im not 110% sure but i think its from 88 ??? onwards the mk2's have the same size spline. anyone confirm? neil. -
sorry im probably being a bit hasty asking what its worth, and i realise it wont be worth as much with the problem. but im just tired of having to sell bits and bats/use credit card/borrow money to try to get it mint, and it keeps kicking me in the balls. i really dont think its worth the stress, debt and hassle. i need to have a break from it and have a think,me and the girlfriend are struggling to afford our new house and we have a first child on the way. i need to concentrate on the above and forget about 'a piece of metal' neil.

aye but,its been hard work,im not always at the pc,and my units at the other end of town, plus ive gotta work :( only part time like, and i just wanted to try sort it locally before either getting other help (which i have no money for) or just getting pissed off with it... and tbh i dont really expect anyone to go out of there way for me for nothing? why should you? i honestly wouldnt be able to offer a few beers or a pack of fags or anything. ive literally got the petrol in the car and not a penny to my name. thats how bad it is at the mo. i really do appreciate the offers of help, ive had plenty but i need to look at the bigger picture, cars have got me in serious debt and i need to get sorted. if the worst comes after ive had a think about things and i cant sort anything, then ill pm one of you guys and hopefully you will be able to help me??? neil.
-
aye,id be expecting you turning up in a straight jacket and dribbling and shit m8. :)
-
whats it worth people? it has running fault, its backfiring in the inlet manifold but still drives. please take the time to read through the topic and give an honest opinion. thanks, neil.

yep. pissed off with cars in general and a lot of other stuff too. ive got my first child on the way,i dont need the fuckin hassle. i dont know what to do with it now,im not touching it,ive absolutely no money to let anyone else touch it,and i cant be bothered messing anymore. not had it long, water pump went in the first 2 weeks, little belt on the charger snapped etc etc...and this is after my usual routine of first buying a car.... new plugs/cap/rotor,basically full service,do it all myself to save money. and what for? people drive round in pieces of shit, never toching them and they run forever. wonder how much it would be worth,it drives, just not very well. body is as usual with me,mint in the true meaning of the word. loads of receipts as per usual, interior is immaculate, although its grey :pukeright:

good luck m8 :) bet an ecu wasnt cheap, nothings cheap on these things, theyre hard to work on,theyre just crap.
-
tea time now eh? oh no,yesterday my brand new oven blew up and shot the red hot glass all over the new kitchen lino and hallway carpet. which was nice :thumbleft:

hey,no probs m8. i always tend to get problems that no one understands or whatever. i cant believe how ive stressed to people in the past about vw reliability, when really its a load of shit aint it? over the years ive had stupid expensive problems with every vw ive ever owned, the mk1,the jetta, the sportline, the rado. shit tbh.
