Thanks for the reply - had almost given up! Seems like most people here have gone straight for VAG-COM and bypassed the old blink codes. Took mine back to Halfords today too (after noting down the internal wiring ready for copying!). But alas - no luck getting it to work. Bizzarre seeing as it was designed to work with 9A passats :( Disappointing.

G-Master..... Sounds good ! They've got a VR kit for me on order now & going to return the other kit. Do you have any pics of yours??? I was concerned with the VR kit being a bit high on the front of a 4pot car due to having less weight on the front suspension. But the rear springs appear to be adjustable..... so should be ok! Randal...... good luck if you do go for it - 60mm is alot - by my reckoning there should be about 10-15mm between the top of the tyre and the arch. Low enough?! C&R will swap em for you for the vr kit .... but not if you've had em fitted at all !
-
All this is getting too confusing! Well the Kit I have here (ends in 063) is the one weitec recommend for both 16vers and the G60. Drops are as mentioned above. But apparently a few people have complained that it's too low (hence the new catalogue warning that it is very low). The nice guys there (Roy) suggested that I swap it for the VR6 lowering kit which is a bit less severe. (rear height is adjustable so will be able to compensate for the less weighty front end in the 16v) The VR6 kit has the part no - VW00001GT. G-master - I guess if your kit has the VW00001GT part number you're using the VR6 parts. Did it lower your car much from standard??
-
Right - my Weitec kit turned up today..... ..... and I've one small concern! C&R's installation instructions tell me the 40mm drop is based on a G60's standard ride (which is apparently 340mm) This means mine will be about 70mm lower than what it is now! (2.0 16v run at 370mm apparently) Will this still be allright on OEM wheels without any arch mods??? (PS Randal, 1.8 16v are apparently 360mm - ie with the weitec kit, a 60mm drop)

Gunson's Fault Finder. Has anyone tried one of these on their Corrado to pull blink codes?? Needless to say - there isn't one specifically for the corrado - but the VW one does supposedly cover the 9A 2.0 16v passat. As a result I thought this would be a goer. Unfortunately the LED isn't doing what it should according to the manual..... (ie it isn't lighting up when you turn the ign on) Has anyone tried this with any success ??? or do I need to find someone with VAG.COM? (PS - how they charge £19 for an LED,2 resistors a diode and a switch is beyond me!)

And another donation made to the fund. And another BTTT for the worthy cause! Cheers!

Have you bought some then randal??? still waiting for mine to arrive in the country! Looks good there mike ..... not particularly low - but how they should have come from the factory!
-
Toads all the way for me! Have just fitted my 3rd now & have never had a problem with any of them. On a down side - I've not been able to do a 'full closure' with the 606, as the 'lock' pulse is only 3.5 secs & to fully close 2 windows and the roof you need about a 8 sec 'lock signal'. I'm sure there is a way around it though!

I've got a scanned copy of an old Redline article on the VR6 if someone wants to host it..... 6 pages inc the best from the VAG group. Nice looking black VR6 pictured with Voodoo wheels and some sketchy bird draped al over. Did sen it to the CCGB address but didn't hear anything back

randal - you have PM

I've taken the plunge today and gone for a Weitec 40/40 kit from C&R. Price is quite reasonable at £205 + vat. Will also be doing top mounts, bumpstops & top plates etc..... will report back on how it goes! Oh.... and this post is not an invitation for others to go...... "oooh ... I wouldn't have bought those!!"

Since that VAG.COM post below - it has renewed my interest in piulling these codes... Does anyone have the procedure for pulling the codes using an LED? I can find plenty of info for doing this for other VAG cars with 3x2 connectors but nothing for our 2x2 setups.... Can anyone help? Need to know which pins to use & how to start / reset the sequence. Cheers!
-
hmm - don't think they're worn.... only put them on after inters & probably used less than 10 times in total! [edit - sorry this should really be under 'problems']
-
guys ... put some of these on a while back & the drivers side one always leaves a 1-2" smear from the upright position on its way back down. Any sugestions?
-
nice one mate - so what it the full setup on the brakes than... ? new pads? (who, p/n , how much?) custom hoses ? (again ^) eny edge overlap ? with standard corrado G60 disks was it ? ... oh, and do the pads overlap the inner edge too ? (perhaps going to make it an arse to change a worn set?) cheers bud .... my own setup may be following this week!
-
totally agree - have been with them for 5 years and their quotes were always really good..... ...... but hours waiting & do they ever callyou back ??? god only knows what they'd be like if you actualy had to make a claim! Had an Audi S2 last year with 280bhp and worth 8 grand..... policy was £1200 fully comp renewal this year I changed down to a 2.0 16v corrado worth £1800 Best quote they could manage was £1500  Bye bye HIC! Now with Flux who only wanted £403 :)

rs2 brackets are minging?? fair point - they don't look that attractive as the only machined surfaces are the crucial mounting points. Having said that - casting does offer a better grain structure for odd shapes such as these & reduces the risk of introducing stress raisers. Having said that, the Seat designers probably did take that into account! Are the Seat ones a similar design? (L shaped and fairly minimal - or a more simple solid 'block' design? Porsche monoblocs rule! - the bigger the better! - look forward to seeing how you get on!
-
Phat VR6: can you tell any more about the seat carriers? whed i did the conversion on my audi, I heard rumours about thesse parts & so called my seat dealer. The only caliper mounting brackets they could find were getting on for £100 each! any part numbers? or better - any pics? In the end i went for genuine RS2 brackets but these were still ~ £60 each (massively discounted)

I had the 996 front calipers on my S2 with 315mm disks. They fitted under the OEM 16" wheels but were too close for comfort. Had the disks taken down to 308mm & the calipers brought inboard correspondingly. I'd guess that you could put a set of rear 996 calipers with VW 280mm disks quite happily under most 16" wheels. You'd have to get some brackets & hoses made up though. From experience, hoses seem to cost £45 a pair and brackets anything from £100-300 a pair. But again - someone needs to take the risk first! The added bonus here is that all the consumable parts are pish cheap (brembo disks £20 ea & textar pads £30 a set). If I had any intention to go above 15's - I'd be giving it a bash tomorrow!! (some more info on boxster brakes http://www.bombaydigital.com/boxster/pr ... kes/parts/ )
-
Considering you could get a pair of 996 monoblocs for £160 + VAT it sounds a bit pricey..... but then it all depends on demand doesn't it! They do seem to go on e-bay every now & then so may be worth keeping your eye out. RE the overlap - I can't quite understand what the chap above is trying to explain.... but personally I don't think riveting is a good idea on any brake components..... unless its just to hold something in position.... If aposegil is fitting them all up in the coming weeks, I'd be tempted to just wait and see before splasing out on any bits! There always needs to be one guinea pig!
-
perhaps 'shed loads' was a bit over optimistic! I think all the coupe quattros had them and also the 20v 80's. Best bet is to check ETKA or similar. More info on similar swaps here http://www.20v.org/brakeupg.htm (although it is a US site so applications may vary)
-
nice - I take it you have 17"s !!
-
yup - same thing here - just finished re-painting the Estorils - so no prorker brakes for me this time :( .....and back off the other S2 owners..... they're mine!! but having said that - the S2 calipers were used on shed loads of other 'average' audis so finding them from breakers shouldn't be a problem.... (and if they not off an S2, they probably won't be cahrging a premium either!) so have you actually done a dry run with girling calipers VW 280mm disks?? sounds promising!
-
http://www.design911.com used 996 rear calipers in red / silver / black - £80 each & VAT But do me a favour and don't buy 'em mail order! Trust me on this one!
