  1. Its been soo long since I last worked on the car that it took me a good while just poking around to find out what I had got up to! It looks as though I got the R32 engine in situ then stopped there. So first job was to get the engine in properly. I started with fitting the cover which goes over the the pulleys and then fitting the cam cover. Then I looked at the Inlet manifold, this was in need of some tlc, the variable inlet actuator was bust, the nipple the pipe attaches to was snapped and I also noticed on of the pipe fitting on the rear was broken to. Fortunatle I found a 2.8V6 inlet for sale locally, bought this as swapped the broken actuator. I needed to fix the pipe inlet on the rear, the molded in plastic one had snapped so i had to have a think was to how best to fix it. tried a couple of things which turned out to be useless. In the end I resorted to making my own, I had some various hydraulic fittings kicking about in the garage, like a larger brake bleed nipple. I turned one end down to suit the pipe it was to fit (the other end was still threaded) to fit it into the manifold. I cut flat the broken one and drilled a hole to suit the thread. As this was a hydrauic fitting, it has a weird thread. to get around this and to ensure an air tight fit I couter-bored the hole slightly so it would fit in it then heated the fitting up with a blow torch. when it was hot engouh to slightly melt the plastic surrounding it I could screw it in. I was very pleased with the result, its air tight and way stonger than the origonal! I've decieded to go ahead and use as much as what I had made before ref the inlet, I i'm going to go ahead and use the VR6 throttle. I had previoulsy had this fitted to a 2.8V6 inlet manifold so i had to make a new adapter to suit the R32 one. This was time consuming as the mounting face has a lot going on! so some measuring, a little CAD and alot of time on the milling machine resulted in this.... The main hole in the center is tapered to smoothly transition from the R32 inlet dia to the smaller VR6 dia. The inner diameters matched up perfectly and while the outer shape fixes to the everything nicely I may revisit the perifery to get a better match - after I get the engine runnning and the car finished! I also encountered a problem with the throttle clashing with the aluminium casting for the water pipe and the EGR system. I had previouslty blanked the EGR bit off without modifying the casting but as the throttle was now held differently there was now a new clash, so out with the hack saw, chop stuff off and back on the milling machine... This also gave me more room for the throttle position connector. Before, I had to fit this to the throttle and then fit the throttle to the manifold. I bought a new gasket for the manifold so fitted this. I also oreder new bolts for the manifold as they are a weird size (M7!) and as I bought my manifold and engine seperately I didn't have the old ones. Unfortunetly the VW dealer I got the parts from managed to confirm I needed 9, gave me a price for 9, then ordered ONE!!! so I have it held in place with the one I got but I cant progress at the front of the engine till I get the others, tomorrow apprently, or maybe it will take me nine orders to get all of them! I attached a few more bits around the engine bay then called it a day there on the engine. Next job was to make some progress on the seat. Nothing had happened on this for ages, one, because I haven't looked at the car ages and 2 because I couldn't find any old seats to use to make subframes for them. Luckily the E38 Clasifieds came up trumps and I dashed out to pickup a pair of corrado fronts. I then stripped down the seats I'm going to fit and started to work out the best way of making the subframes...
  2. Cheers! I've also been doing quite alot to the rear of the car and just been going through my photos, heres a few of the progress.... No rear seats.
  3. That vid had me thinking and it just occured to me.... Possibly the best start to any film...ever.
  4. Oooh, Hell yeah! no middle box it is! very nice typhoon, very nice. Would be good if you can get a vid of yours to KAD, what set up are you running? I've had a good deal of time off the car, for various reasons but I'm getting back into it now. I've been posting on E38 but will get a summary update done for the CF, off to check where I got to....
  5. Hi guys, Got the R32 in the Corrado and ran it up for the fist time, I have a Magnex cat back system on the car but it sounds really, well, subtle. not a lot of burble. So i was wondering any of you 24V / R32 guys have any vids posted showing the sound of the exhaust..? Cheers Doug
  6. Hi I did have a fuel rail with these in. I see if I have them still. wouldn't want to split a set so if your interested in a set of spares let me know Cheers Doug
  7. Hi I'm after the above to use for making some seat bases for some non VW seats. I only need the frame so ideally want these from some scrap seats. Must be any Height adjustable ones PRE mk4 golf type. Let me know if you can help? Cheers Doug
  8. No not a lot at the moment as I've been struggling to find time in the garage. I've nearly made the bits to get teh r32 running but still need to get a r32 fuel rail and inlet manifold. Also got a little distracted buying wheels and brakes! opps. Going to order a new fuel rail as trying to find a used one is like finding hens teeth. need to make some progress....
  9. Cheers, I have to say I am now really looking forward to getting the R32 in there. Cant want to hear it. I dont know what it was, maybe a mix of the tubular manifolds, my down pipe and magnex exhaust I had on there but the 2.8 sounded evil so the R32 should sound really good! Ordered a new motor for the lathe and some aluminium this morning, hopefully that should arrive the first week of Jan so should have a good update soon after that....
  10. No great leaps forward today but I did manage to get all the parts I needed off the 2.8 and on the Audi 3.2. Also spruced up a few bits before it goes in the bay. Will fit the gearbox tomorrow and get the engine on its mounts. Then I have to workout the bits I need to make it run on the VR6 ECU. shouldn't take too long to work out but the motor on my lathe went bang a little while ago so until I get a new one I wont be able to make the parts... fingers crossed for Christmas... 'thankyou darling, thats a lovely single phase 1.5hp motor' but its more likely socks! lol Also need a MK5 or Audi 3.2 inlet manifold so if anyone knows of one going? please let me know.
  11. Sure thing dude.... Only 'strictly' on the tv now, yawn....
  12. Small update, I managed to motivate myself to get the engine out and in the garage the other day (Brrr) so last week I starte to investigate the cause and exstent of the bearing wear. As it turns out to strip it down and get everything cleaned etc plus buy all the new parts it would need would cost more than buying another 2.8 24v engine so I have made the decision to cut my losses with the 2.8 and get straight on with the R32. Theres a few things I will have to design and make again to make it work but the effort that involves is much less than perservering with the 2.8. I should get some time this weekend so I'm aiming at getting the R32 in the Engine bay.... watch this space... lol
  13. nice one. well, let me know if anything come up. in the mean time if theres anything you need I sure we can sort something out for 'beer tokens' Cheers
  14. Hi Kip. Yep totally mobile! I haven't quit the day job yet so doing jobs during work hours is a little tricky, although if its worth it I will take the day as holiday. Other than that I'm more than happy to do work out of hours and even over night. If the items not too big I happy to be sent objects in the post, scan and return. I can provide it in any format you like. native output is stl or asc (point cloud) which is good for most uses although the file size can quickly go nuts! further post processing means I can output 'automated' surface model (ready little extra £) or I can create surfaces patches (read £) or you can go the whole hog and go for 'A' class curvature matched surface model (read £££ and time!) for perfect body panels but only really needed by OEMs. We can work together to get the detail you need at the best cost and time. Unless its a massive model, stl's can generally be supplied 'next day' Igs, step, stl etc all available. If you get me some good work, the hub is yours!
  15. We're back! Had a few months to cool off and get some other non car stuff finished So work on the corrado can begin again. One thing I have set up in the time off the car, which may be of interest to some people on here, is my new company 'Capture Point'. I can now offer 3D scanning services. This, up to now, has been a hugely expensive thing to get done and well out of reach of 'home engineering' however I'm offering it at much more sensible prices. Please see below: http://s289.photobucket.com/albums/ll21 ... -POINT.jpg Here's a quick vid of a Corrado VR6 front hub assembly [youtube:1bo41cbp] [/youtube:1bo41cbp] Or full size Corrado scan.... (low quality, sent from iphone) [youtube:1bo41cbp] [/youtube:1bo41cbp] I'll post some high res pics to if anyone is interested...? Yesterday I eased myself back into working on the car by clearing some space in the garage and also managed to trim one of the last parts of the headlining. By the end of the week I will have the engine out and crank ready to be sent out for checking. Then hopefully the engine can be built up for the last time!!!! Target for 100% finished car including new paint is Worthersee next year!
  16. Just read your discription again and if it's fine up to 2k something odd is happening. Above idle and well before 2k both. Inlet an cam advance should both be active. As you say your torque is shooting up initially, as the mk5 does then it would seam the inlet and cam advance is working. Initially any way. Above 4k the inlet reverts back to normal and the cam advance tappers off back to no advance so this is probably why it's feeling normal after 4k. As such I would be looking at the map and it feels to me more like cam timing. If it's as drastic a difference as you suggest I doubt little difference the inlet makes would effect it that much. You should be able to check the inlets working visually. If it's moving ( at the right times!) then it's pretty certain it's working. It's a piece of plasitic=not much to got wrong. I've heard of them getting rattely and getting stuck but that about all that could go wrong... If your running oem ecu you should be able to vag com the duty cycle of the cam advance soleniod to check that's working. If you can/did(?) take a log of this while you did your runs it should be pretty straight forward to see what's working. Keep us posted as it will be interesting to see what it was causing it.
  17. I'd say that was petty respectable it can't be that far off if it can still make 278! What ecu are you running, standard rempapped or after Market? Also where did these other copied maps come from?
  18. LOL yeah cheers guys. it was funny last night when I read that last post, I looked at the cat and she just bolted - maybe they really do have a 6th sence!? Going to get the garage squared up at the weekend, get the car in and engine out. then proceed as and when I feel like it
  19. crank looked fine, but while its out, like you say, i'll get it look at and checked also going to get the block professionally cleaned. Another plus side is that i found out before the 400 pound remap!
  20. Thanks Pete that was my thinking to but its impossible it seems to find a schematic of the engine to see the route everything takes! Things aren't so great... I got home today and figured that if there was limited oil getting to the rod bearings there was a good chance the crank main earings were at risk. Ture enough all these are worn to. arse. It a bit of a sh!te mood with it all at the moment - I cant beleive I was sooo close to getting confirmation that everything I had done to get it running on the VR6 Ecu was ok and it needs taking out, totally stripping down, cleaning etc etc etc rebuilding etc etc ... I just wish I started with fully built up engine that I knew the history of. however.... I've done this stuff enough times to know that you have to go through some low (sometimes very low) points to get the project done so theres no point getting too upset about things (it is after all only an engine and a car) so I'm going to take a few months off pushing to get it finished and concentrate on different things - non car related but more work related and use the frustration of the car stuff to fuel progress on them. perseverance is the name of the game. I will keep things updated but dont expect lots of progress too soon
  21. Bummer, looks as though I have a oil pressure problem. i took it for a little shake down drive and when i pulled into the drive i could just about hear a faint knock from the bottom end. Engine off, sump off and inspected the bearings.... Weird thing is bearings 1 and 6 are starting to show wear, bearings 2,3,4,5 all look like brand new still. very strange. As such I have had to cancel my RR remap this friday :( Its really annoyed me as I sooo want to know what the enigne will do but I also want it all perfect so.... new pump and some new shells will arrive tomorrow. along with a oil pressure test kit so I can find the problem. Speaking with Stealth when I called to cancel my appointment he said that the pressure release valves in the pumps are known to go up the shoot and often happens at revs rather than at idle so could be a blessing in disguise that I have caught it now! (if thats what it is!?) Just seams strange its only cylinders 1 and 6 that are affected? Does anyone have a schematic of the oil pathways in a VR6 engine, as I would like to know where everything is going etc? Or has anyone ever had any bearing, oil pressure related problems/ symptoms etc..?? The other thing is I was toying with the idea of learning and tuning it myself...but thought for speed I'd just give it to stealth, as it happens this weekend a friend dropped off a reader/writer/emulator....... and the reluctance of my car to go and get tuned is making me think it wants ME to do it!? lol
  22. Spent most of this weekend getting the car back together so its respectable for its remap on friday.. got the complete headling , a b c pillars etc in, drivers door sound deadened and built up, a few more parts of the dash went in, glove box etc and then the seats in. Still a way to go yet but its getting there...
