  1. What's a rocker arm, ye ancient bowman of England, known as Therapor?
  2. I did it on a Golf Mk 2's imitation BBSs. (silver - Hammerite) Use at least 7 coats, with rests and checks for dust/hairs between coats. Arsols by the way. :ignore: you know, the pressurised tins! Get them done professionally for £220-270.
  3. Coilpack is my fave for these problems if it is the original one you still have. They do not endure the great heat from the engine they are bolted onto very well!
  4. 99% probability it is the coilpack if it is still the original one. Misbehaviour  is much worse in wet/humid conditions. The coilpacks after about 10 years become really dodgy due to cracking, we have seen on this forum.
  5. Does the gas and bubbling from the coolant reservoir smell of petrol fumes? (Watch your beak - don't get it scalded!) A garage can stick a probe into the gas and tell you whether there are exhaust fumes there. (There should not be.) Are there any oily droplets/scum swirling around in the coolant reservoir and sticking to the sides of the container? Do you have mayonnaise on the oil filler cap before the cold engine gets up to working temperature? When you look at the oil dipstick after carefully lifting it out, can you see any watery droplets sitting on the oily surface? If yes to one or more, sadly, the head gasket has almost certainly sprung a leak. Good luck with your investigations, anyway, guys.
  6. VR6Will, did you buy those to eventually fit to your car? How much are they and do they arrive quicker than standard set? RSVR6 - What is awkward about changing the oil cooler ones, please? I am 61 and may have to pay someone to do it if it is too tricky. Regards both, Iain
  7. An example of CF power again. :salute: 8)
  8. Good one Karl Davis! - and great music score you wrote for "World at War" - :thumb right: Lidl (where all people in the know, shop) often have microfibre cloths and other products for giveaway prices. Last week they had triple strength windscreen washer (5litres - and made in Germany) for £3.99.
  9. That could pose a small problem. Even the UK Samcos for VR6 do not include pipes to and from the oil thingy (right at bottom of engine) and give you two that transport gases not coolant. Two garages I went to (one a VAG!) could not even figure out where these two went. I found out from our excellent Corrado Forum and fitted one myself. Left other off as not sure if it dispensed with something in original fitment that was really needed.
  10. Kev probably screws his bigtime, though? :)
  11. Hell mend AMD, I say. I asked for a quote by email for something costing about £150 about 3 years ago - they never bothered answering it. I went elsewhere (C&R). AMD lost a sale, a customer and his concern for them . Now they have gone down the tubes? - it figures. Remember guys, the customer IS king. Our hard earned dosh has to go to those who care.
  12. Have a look at your air filter box and element - sometimes you can get lots of oil in there, too. My lads had, in turn, a Lancia Y10 for a year or so, once :pukeleft: . It developed a terminal engine illness and on our way to the garage to trade it in, it laid smokescreens so dense, the Royal Navy in WW2 would have been proud of them! This happened on roundabouts or lefthanders as the car tilted and oil spilled into the engine. I know what you mean by so bad it is embarassing and a danger to other road users bighand. Unbelievable how thick it can be. Good luck, and fingers crossed for you, anyway.
  13. Buying from ECP should save you some significant money, but if you cant collect yourself and have to pay postage, IMO it is probably worth just getting one from VAG.
  14. Mine took about 7 weeks from Revolution in Gateshead, but you just have to grin and bear the wait, mostly.
  15. AS Foggystorm suggests, dealer is best place for G12+, and unlike many items they have, the cost is reasonable.
  16. Car windows steaming up excessively is always due to water/coolant getting into the car in my experience. Noise when ignition is turned on to position one when engine is warm is aux coolant pump. - as vr6storm says. Replacement on my 1995 VR6 in August 2006 cost about £70 from ECP - good make - Bosch. I was able to fit it myself but am retired with plenty of time - should not cost more than a couple of hours labour to change, but you will have to pay for more G12+ to refill. Cant be sure that will be all car needs as coolant is possibly getting into car if rainwater is not the culprit for the steaming up. You must have wet carpets to get copious condensation inside car. Sometimes you cannot identify wetness in carpets with only a quick feel  . I found that four rubber mats in place in the car can show which bit of the floor is wet - condensation is trapped under the rubber mat after a few hours at the wet bit and is easily spotted. Good luck with your investigation. Iain
  17. They are a tight fit to keep water out. Both VAG and ECP sell them for about 37p each. Ecp's are black but just as good in my experience.
  18. under 200 rpm, scarlet_vr6? :?:
  19. I have always squeezed top hoses vigorously several times  and have never had air locks in 30 years of coolant changes.

    Rain X

I have used it from time to time over the years - I have some in the garage now. What gets me is how much work it is to put it on as per the instructions. Maybe a spray on type will emerge some day.
  21. IMO there has never been such great value for money available to buyers of used cars. Our lad had to give up his S3 for financial reasons and has just got a 2001 Focus 1.6LX for £3.5k. No!......wait....it's not too bad,........really! I have never had a Ford but have taken to this particular car in a big way as I have washed it all - including the engine compartment - with my usual Autoglym stuff and had a good chance to examine it in detail. Basically the car is almost in new condition due no doubt to the low mileage of just under 32k miles and an owner who must have been extremely careful with it. There is not a scuff or mark on it worth mentioning, both inside or out. Its lines made it a pleasure to wash, with no awkward shapes and corners to have to deal with. The gear change is one of the best ever - solid and switchlike, though I have not had a chance to drive it on the open road yet. So, a nearly new car, originally costing £14k for £3.5k and perhaps a more sympathetic view from me towards Fords.
  22. As an old git, I can tell you that punctures seem to be much rarer in the last 30-35 years, or so. Possibly something to do with the designs and materials being so different to what they were. Must be due to that IMO as there certainly is a lot more debris on the roads now that can cause tyre damage.
  23. Yeah, Corrado Nipple, must be rough!
  24. My wife drives the VR6 sometimes from West Lothian to Dundee and back. She is average height at 5ft 5" but has been driving since about 1964! IMO Main faults of Corrado over a "sensible" car (like Golf!) for a petite beginner are, 1 - appalling visibility to the rear. 2 - Low driving position 3 - big, heavy doors Otherwise, for a VR6, experience is rated - - wow!!
