  1. Don't you think there must be something not quite right with yours double-6s? I have seen plenty of others on here getting over 30mpg from VR6s.
  2. I get 31-34mpg on a 130 mile round trip of mostly motorway and dual carriageway. Busy urban routes with plenty of waiting it will drop to 23-28mpg.
  3. All I have heard is that it is a very quiet tyre.
  4. No help this - but the only time our diesel failed to start in 16 years on turning over, it was the glow plugs. Good luck with your investigations.
  5. Mine is nearly 12 years old with 102k miles on original. I think Dr Mat is a great believer in the good value for money and durability of VAG exhausts, too.

PS Coolant should be "G12 plus" coolant nowadays and do not fill with it until all previous stuff has been thoroughly flushed out. You get it from any VAG dealer and it is not one of their outrageously expensive rip off items.

I would bite the bullet and replace all old hoses. Possibly the culprits are the originals having done 145k miles? Pinhole leaks suggests they are porous which could be due to deterioration thro' age. Even if they don't do this when you fix other things, they will always be a weak spot and will be liable to let you down in traffic when you least need it. Extremely high pressure in parts of system may be due to things others have touched on.
  8. A long shot, but I have not seen "replaced fuel filter" in any of the posts. They do gum up and are apparently missed out in servicing.
  9. Possibly a novel slant on this thread. Tyres crack through age after about 5 years or so, I read, and have also seen for myself. In fact, a pair of old, but 3-4mm tread, Michelins on our 6k miles/annum Peugeot have just been replaced after my garage man pointed out how badly they were weathered/cracked due to age. The VR6 has hardly-worn Dunlop Sport tyres on it (15" 205/50) which have been on for 4.5 years. It does less than the Peug per annum. (Yes, I know we should get out more!) My question is does anyone know of a fast-wearing but reasonable tyre that would be the best investment for the C. Years ago, I got the impression that some tyres like Pirellis wore quickly but gave great driveability due to being made of soft, grippy compound.
  10. By all accounts Colin is a decent guy and good business man. I could make an exception to displaying the ROS1E plate if it comes with a mature, cheery, bosomy English barmaid type of gal.
  11. We have COL1N in town. Just seen N11CCO. Personally, I would not have one - I think they are pretentious crap. But I am an old git and agree 99% with what "Grumpy Old Men" say! :ignore:
  12. IMO - Be careful - I wouldnt let Kwikfit or similar loose on a Corrado. I had laser alignment done on a Golf GTi 2 by VAG about five years ago , it was expensive but positively transformed the car totally.
  13. Under the bonnet near the gear box a white plastic part in the linkage gets brittle with age and broke on mine. Maybe not that, but worth a look.
  14. Don't act like you've got a zip up the back of your head, lad. Toss these out immediately. They stink!
  15. I calculate you would have been quicker if the gritters had stayed off the roads 'cos they were on strike, kev!
  16. Yeah - children and dogs with you crank up the anxiety. You can cope and even chill out a bit on your own unless you are under pressure because of your job commitments.
  17. veedub, that leaves you guys down there a lot more time to go a-wreckin' and a-smugglin'
  18. In about 1979, the gritters went on strike in Edinburgh, there was a snowfall which then compacted to sheet ice and it took over 2 hours for the 14 mile trip to work. On arrival there, we were told to go home, because of the chaos! Small problem in comparison to yours, Tempest and co. down south - sounds appalling. :salute:
  19. I found it all too easy to speed with spacesaver on - you just forget about it. Keep to 50 in case poleesman spots you.
  20. There was me thinking it was just to keep the rear window clean and pose.
  21. Not essential with Aberdeen water, IMO - it just depends how fussy you are and how much care you want to give the car - how long you intend to keep it, etc. Just use tap water in the meantime until any leak problems are resolved.
  22. Top up with mixture of half distilled water/half coolant.
  23. OT, but worth remembering that Howard Hughes did not want every bump in this world smoothed down. Jane Russell's chest had to have engineering expertise applied so that she looked her best in HUghes' western "The Outlaw". Hughes apparently spent a lot of time on this. What normal red blooded male wouldn't, given the opportunity!
  24. Saw a photo of pilot doing it, Yan. Have worked at military airfields, so know what you mean, though, you old pedant. Almost certainly ground crew did it.
