  1. CDs (25 in last 2-3 months. Everything from Vaughan Williams - Jazz - Amerie) hardware, garden landscaping stuff, tools, etc from B&Q, Homebase, Lidl, local autoparts shop and Halfrods.
  2. "dinkus' silver VR"? Shum mishtake, I thought. But no! Well done, dinkus. Good to see you with another.

  4. Jim said: No, no Jim - the 2nd hand prices are good!
  5. Henny said: I think it must be because we have exceptional empathy with things mechanical, Henny. I probably started dipping the clutch before speed bumps appeared when crossing cattle grids which, as you know, can really rattle your teeth in your skull. I just seemed to feel that the engine is best disengaged from those rapidly joggling wheels and suspension during those rough moments.
  6. Unnecessary rip-off expense at the moment IMO.
  7. I always dip clutch to prevent extra strain on transmission.
  8. Some of you will have seen it, but new to me was following. http://www.corradoclub.org/media.html We have to thank CCGB for giving the C more good exposure.
  9. kev delivers definitive answer yet again. Thanks, pal. 8)
  10. Once on a bike, I got a big bluebottle in my mouth. I immediately clamped my jaws shut without thinking and burst it between my back molars. The taste? No surprises really.
  11. Good point David. I have always had a good stock of paraffin, white spirit, IPA, etc about the place and they can do plenty. Still a mug when it comes to buying "special products", though. I have come to the conclusion after over 30 years that we are never happy unless we are spending money on our cars. Must be some kind of obsessional compulsive disorder.
  12. We get ripped off because of VAG's Heath-Robinson (German version) design. What is the use of these infernal things on the roof.
  13. fla said; Too true - keep it simple.
  14. Not even drizzled over your chips?
  15. Don't let it dribble into your alternator or any moving parts - from experience I can tell you it will hurt!
  16. kevhaywire said; A lot of great Scottish (& UK) scenery comes with frequent rotten weather, though. The things I found good about down south when I went there to work as a 19-year old were: Despite what you lot down there think, - a great climate. I didnt know what an advantage and necessity short sleeved shirts were till I went to London during a summer so warm that cracks were opening up in the the earth. Up here, when the temperature reaches 20C we all start talking about it. Great pubs and pub culture - back home, we were still in the dark ages and, IMO, it took about another 20 years for us to start getting civilised pubs. PS - My (English) wife and daughter will probably be in beautiful Bucks, and High Wycombe in particular, on Saturday next - she has close relatives there.
  17. Nice colour, wheels and an N-plate, too.
  18. kevhaywire said Health and Safety was non-existent in those days, though. Scores of men died in accidents - some of them only youths. Proper tribute was only paid to them recently. You may know that the Forth (Railway) Bridge's gross over-engineering was a response to the Tay Bridge disaster in 1879. The court of inquiry revealed that, when the bridge was being constructed, to avoid delay, the foundrymen on the shores of the Tay were wont to fill holes and flaws in the girders with a mixture of carbon, iron filings and beeswax, if I recall correctly! A great, very readable book on the subject is "The High Girders" by John Prebble. PS - By the way, it is scorchio here today again (24C at 1020 hours after unusually high night minimum of 17C). I wonder if the Victorian designers took global warming into consideration 120 years ago. That bridge must expand a great deal!

  20. Good one kev. 8) Nothing kinky about photos near bridges then? Let me know if you are this way again (or any of you forumers) and you can have a cup of tea and bickies and a wee relax. I promise not to say - as they say in Edinburgh to newly arrived visitors [in a hopeful tone] - "You'll've had your tea then?"
  21. ?? Not with you there chum :? South Queensferry is 15 mins drive from home. Unfortunately we have to make do with places like that up here as we do not enjoy the luxury of such photogenic places as Slough and High Wycombe.
  22. 2 new pix. 1880's, 1960's and 1990's engineering.
  23. And me. My local non VAG garage does charge half hour rates.
  24. Black H reg 16v parked in Linlithgow High Street this morning. Parked on pavement in way shop owners and locals who are familiar with system do. Never seen it there before. Perhaps it is a new acquisition for a local and will be a regular there. Peculiar, closed in plastic wheel trims - I think word Corrado was on them.
