  1. Ah, but you have a 16v with the standard 256mm discs. So the cheapest and easiest upgrade is to get yourself a pair of G60 or VR6 calipers and carriers, some standard G60 discs (GSF do Brembo vented ones which are reasonable) and some Ferodo FD2500 pads. The calipers can be bought for about 50-70 quid, the disc are £50ish and the pads are about £20-25 IIRC. So cheap upgrade for no more than £150 all in. That's what I'd do anyway.
  2. My thoughts exactly. You would be mad to sell, Andy. [essex]Sort your f*ckin life aaaaawt[/essex] :camp:  :cuckoo:
  3. Well, I much prefer the interior pics this time round. Maybe its because of the colour and style of the leather... 8)
  4. Did you repaint the rear shockers, Judith, or were they just cleaned?
  5. [pedant]There isn't any VAT on food in the UK[/pedant], so its a tax free exercise!
  6. umm why is my petrol paying for the NHS  thought that was what my national insurance was for NAH, you got that wrong, national insurance pays for your huge government pension... :cuckoo:  The NHS is paid for by erm, erm.....
  7. I'd have to disagree there. I couldn't afford a new super economical car and I'm sure there are many others that can't either! As others have said though, the shear amount of fuel duty is unbelievable AND VAT on top too! The government will be raking it in. Oh and now they are putting it up even more in October (IIRC)....hmmm. Unfortunately nothing will change as the British will not make a stand. I mean, 30% voted in the last round of elections, so it's clear that all though we are all moaners, not enough of us are complainers.
  8. Without a doubt, yes! I think it's all very well having a large amount of duty on fuel and pushing more economical cars, but the people it affects most are those who can't afford to buy a new car that IS fuel efficient. So surely it is counter productive to increase fuel duty. As the people who can afford it don't care, the people who can't afford it are forced to. We have a 306 DTurbo, which although is ok on fuel, Diesel is more expensive. With our recent journey down to the south west in the Pug compared to the journey up to Scotland in the Toad-meisters Valver, the comparable cost on a per mile basis was about the same. Not only that the 306, although a diesel, is on the same tax band as the Corrado. We can't afford to change the 306 to a newer car with better efficiency to reduce our running costs. I heartily agree. All this fuel duty and [strike:1avr29e6]road[/strike:1avr29e6]stealth tax doesn't go towards anything to do with the transport system as a whole I'm sure, which in this country is a joke. I could get the bus to work, but to get to work before 9am, I'd need to walk to the end of my road, grab the bus, 45minute journey, then walk 1.5miles. So, about 1.25hours. Or I could get in the car and it take 20minutes. If I leave it til after 10, then I can get the bus from the end of my road straight to work, in 40 minutes. What is the point of that? It suits the local pensioners, but not us younguns :censored: Oh and a return ticket is £5 - £25 a week...which is more that the fuel and road tax would cost for the car on a weekly basis :cuckoo: I think that the government realises this, but really doesn't seem to be doing anything about it. The whole credit crunch thing will affect people hugely. Mortagage repayments coupled with additional cost of fuel, which effects all sorts of other services, most notably the food industry, is going to reduce dramatically peoples 'pleasure money' and overall spending, which in turn will increase the downturn in the economy and so on and so forth. I think they need to think about the whole situation with a larger overview than just the 'mortgage' issue. I will be business and industry that will see the effects too
  9. That's what I discovered with mine too. As the Monkey says 30/70 coolant/water should be bettererererer
  10. See that's the thing, Darren. Not only has Gooney upset me, he's upset you too. :cuckoo: Getting the moonroof in was going to satisfy both you AND my desire to have that turbo in my garage and not on your desk!! :brickwall:
  11. I think there is a sensor on the on the back right hand side of the block. I think that is the sender for the oil temp IIRC :?
  12. Hmmm, 16v's are notoriously hard to bleed. Could be a bit of air lockage! I found that mine ran hotter after replacing the pump and stat too. I found it ran cooler with less G12 in it :?
  13. I quite like that.. What I don't understand is the cars that they suggest as alternatives "Alternatives: Alfa Romeo 159, from £18,555. BMW 3-series, from £24,145. Mercedes-Benz CSL, from £43,962. "
  14. It's a sunroof you can only use at night!
  15. I have to agree with you there Simon. Had a Concept 300 on Badcrumble and have one on the 306. Never an issue has been had. It is indeed the fitting and setting up that makes the difference I'm sure. I can also recommend Cobra and Autowatch alarms. When I worked for a Car Audio specialist, we never had one come back!
  16. They are different dude :( different guide and Gav suggested that the cables are also different lengths. Ho hum, just have to fix it I guess. :(
  17. The instrument clusters are on CAN IIRC, so it would probably be a lose of communication that is doing that :?
  18. Well the mech in the car already works fine, I just wanted to fit the moonroof :camp: but cheers anyway :)
  19. Well, indeed dude! It seems to be one thing after another at the mo! Ah well, practice makes perfect  Got a list as long as my arm of stuff do (see first post) and now have a deadline for September 2009 for it all to be done by :brickwall:  :salute:  :norty:
  20. Well, as it was a stunning day today, I thought I'd get the moonroof in. Everything was going great until I tried to manually open and close it to check it all moved ok, and SNAP, the guide on the left hand side gave way!! :mad2: :mad2: So I ended up putting the metal roof back in for now, and I'll have to order a repair kit from VW :pale:
  21. With the right 4" speaker, yeah, but you are better off with a component kit, otherwise you'll end up with it being super ear splittingly bright!
  22. Alright dude! Welcome to the forum  I think the best thing for you to do is get yourself a good 5.25" component kit, whack the mids in the doors and the tweeters on the dash. I mounted my tweeters on the dash with some radio strap, and that seemed to work a treat. As far as wiring the door speakers, you'll just have to go through the rubber concertina grommet thingy that goes between the door and A pillar. If you remove the lower dash trays, you should be able to get to the inside of that grommet which has a foam insert around the wires to protect them from any chaffing on the metal. Then remove the door card and there should be a few gaps in the inner door skin so you can see where best to route the wires. If you use a component kit with a full crossover, then they can be stuck behind the dash. So from head unit to them, then crossover to tweeter and crossover to mid. The rear parcel shelf supports contain some 6x4" speakers. Standard ones are poop, so, if you don't fancy a 6x9 on the shelf then just a nice direct replacement in there too. Which speakers will depend on budget and whether you are considering an additional amplifier to the one in the head unit. HTH :salute:
  23. After a bit more investigation, it's the guide that has snapped and the guide/cable is one piece. Going to have to fix that now :(
  24. Just trying to fit the moonroof to Gooney, and one on the cable has just snapped :( Just wondering if the cables are the same between the standard Corrado roof and the Passat moonroof....I'm hoping so, otherwise all my effort today will be in vain. ETKA suggests that they might be, but 1HO 898 014 A for the Corrado roof repair kit guide and cable and 1H0 898 014 for the Passat :? Help???!????!!!
