I have a Sony CDX-5070 head unit, and a Phillips 6 disc changer RC 026. Does anyone know any websites/ice stores etc. where I can find info on these units to see if the head unit can fit the changer? I'd rather find out if the two can work together before taking out the head unit ('cos it was a swine to put in!). Cheers, Tom

Doh! Cheers Dave, got my maths wrong after all. 418.7m for 12.562galls. A much more respectable 33.33mpg! One less thing to worry about, and I also now know that when the gague hits red, I've still got about 2 gallns left. Cheers, Tom

Cheers for that David, I have a feeling that someone may have messed with the timing a few owners up the line, as even on manual calculation I'm still returning no more than about 27mpg. I'll double check my maths though  Thanks for the advice, Tom

Right, I've put it off for a while, but has anyone got any suggestions as to what might be causing the massively high consumption in my 'rado? It's a '95 2.0l 16v. It's been dropped about 1 1/2" inches at the front, and about 3/4" at the back (rough guess as it wasn't me who carried out the work but a previous owner), and does have a non-standard size exhaust (sounds lovely) and is running on 15" wheels as standard. I can get 400miles out of a 15 gallon tank (average of 26.6mpg), but can never get it above that. Even resetting the MFA whilst moving at a constant 70, it soon drops back down to 26/27mpg. I have cleaned out the airflow control unit (?) with brake cleaner (which solved the idle problem but not the consumption). From reading the forums, I'm guessing that it might be the timing. However, before I take it to the garage, can anyone suggest anything that might be wrong? If that's standard, then I'm happy to pay that price for owning it :) but if I can get better mpg then my bank would be happier.... Any advice greatly appreciated... Cheers, Tom

Just got back from le Mans where you couldn't move round the campsite without tripping over a Lotus, TVR etc, but I only saw 3 'rados, and one of those was French.... Anyway.... Just in case it was anyone on here: The LHD French one was a green VR6 with the largest rear alloys I've ever seen but I didn't get too good a look at it. There was an M reg Dark Green VR6 Storm that was crawling along in the traffic jam about the same speed as I was walking. Two blokes in it, I was a bit p*ssed so I think I yelled something like "Nice Storm, I've got a Valver" Third one was on the drive back to Calais, there was a nice looking L reg black VR6 that was following me for a while, passed me with a mutual thumbs up, and then I was following at about 110  Sorry to not stay in convoy with ya, but I had to catch the ferry... 135 and still pulling :D

Saw a black VR6 (L326 ***) in York today on Rougier Street between the Norwich Union buildings while walking into town. Gave him a wave, and saw him take off like a 'kin rocket from the lights (looked like he was leaving a Barry for dust  ) Any takers? Tom

All about the money.... 81.9 for unleaded & 86.9 for Optimax at $hell when I filled up, but that was last week, so who knows where it's at now... Problem is that this government (and its predecessor) got so caught up in the notion of PFI schemes, they're falling over themselves to give our money to private companies. Just as they were glad to sell the resources that belonged to us (gas, water, electric, phone, railways) into private hands for a quick buck to lower taxes to get votes. Hell, they can only think 5 years ahead. Before you ask, yup I'm bitter.... I work for the railways :( My apologies in advance to all those unhappy commuters out there.

Air cooled 'dubs were my first love, and my family still has one that they are looking to get rid of... A 1954 Oval Ragtop Beetle in (near) original condition, in need of a little attention bodywork wise, but sound mechanically. It has little things like the original tool kit, parcel shelf etc. I'm not putting this in the 'For Sale' section (yet), as I'm still trying to get some idea of how much they should be asking for it. Any questions/ideas, please drop me a line. Cheers, Tom

Dark Blue Metallic 'M' reg 16v. Lowered front (3/4 inch I think, not by me unfortunately), with G60 Alloys. Oh yeah, and the sunroof sticking up at an odd angle on the passenger side :( Think I saw your VR6 on Monday...v. nice 8)

With a full tank in my 2.0l 16v I can get 300-400 miles/full 15 gallon tank, although the MFA says that I'm only averaging 20-25mpg max, and even on a long gentle(ish) run up the motorway, I only got it as high as 27mpg. The power delivery is fine :D and she's making beautiful noises. Running on G60 alloys, could that affect the MFA reading? Any ideas on how to try and get better mpg? I need to spend most of my money on getting the &@£! sunroof fixed (I'm no mechanic on any car past 1936). Idle seems ok, but a slight rise and fall at just under 1000rpm. Any tips on fuel btw? I object to paying 86p/litre having just come from a Passat running bio-diesel (65p/litre woohoo!). Sorry for all the questions, and advice greatly appreciated. Cheers all, Tom

The ones on mine are both one-touch down, but not up. As to the other part, I can't answer it, but I can tell you that mine's the same. SO....either both are all right, or both are knackered :?

A Burgundy (or Dark Red Metallic) VR6 (looking very nice) driving down Blossom Street in York about 7:50pm with 2 gents in it. I was walking at the time but gave the thumbs up and got a wave in return. Nice one. Anyone on here? Apologies for posting this in the wrong place, I meant to put it on this thread in the first place but cocked up. T

Saw a very nice looking Black G60 passing me on Saturday. Just turned into Lawrence Street in York (outside the Rose and Crown). Being driven by a young lady with black hair.

Cheers for that, I took it out with Chriss Knott this morning. Fantastic deal, and up to £3500 cheaper than other places! Thanks for the help, Tom

Can anyone recommend an insurer that won't require me so sign over my first born and seal the contract in blood? Best I've got so far is £570 Fully Comp in an un-modded '95 2.0l 16v. 25, 7years no claims, locked garage (but one speeding conviction). I take delivery of my baby on Saturday. Fulfilling a 10 year dream that will see my old chip-fat powered passat of the road for the forseeable future. Any advice greatly appreciated...
