Whats the fastest you have ever been in your Corrado?
TomB replied to surfer.vr6's topic in General Car Chat
What is it about french motorways? An indicated 135mph with 2 passengers and kit on the way back from le Mans at about 6,000 revs (although I was too busy concentrating of the corner coming up.... Cheers, Tom -
Marvellous, thanks a lot all. I have read the thread and I'm going to give it a shot when the part comes through from GSF. Once again the Corrado forum saves the day! Cheers, Tom

It's not a daily driver as I walk to work, so most of the miles I put on are long(ish) trips of about 50+ miles, also rather...enthusiastically :-) I'm going to get 4 new tyres I think (when I have the money to spend), but perhaps I'll wait until after that track day at Elvington I was planning... Cheers, Tom
-
That's what I thought initially, but it does it an all four tyres with a drop of anywhere between 1 & 15 psi, although the drop is not the same each week. I keep pumping it up as I need to fix other stuff at the moment & it drives fine. Bad fittings?

Cheers Henny, I'm gonna get arrested if I keep starting my car with a length of wire

I'm another rail man (for my sins). Completely non-technical (although hoping to study for an FdEng), dealing with Records and Archives for all the bits of the Railway that are falling down, bridges tunnels etc. Anyone want a prestressed concrete beam drawing? :) I might well be working for 'that company that used to be Railtrack,' although I couldn't possibly comment apart from to say, 'I'm sorry, we are trying, it's just the people at the top keep f**king it up

I'm running 15" Sebrings on the car with 185/55 tyres, but does anyone know what the correct pressures should be for front & back? The guide on the inside of my door is for a different size of tyre which is mildly worrying.... Could this explain when the pressure drops by anything up to 15psi after a week? Cheers, Tom

goshawk, I have a feeling that this has just happened to my 2.0l 16v. Although I haven't tried bump starting it, (I connected the battery to the starter motor to get it fired up) it runs fine. More importantly however, have you (or anyone else) got tips/photos etc for someone who isn't a machanic, but would like to fix it himself? If it's not a simple job, I might leave it to the pros though. Cheers, Tom

Well apart from my 'rado (which I love because it's mine), probably a friend's father's TVR Griffith 500. Ah ha ha ha ha ha ha! British Racing Green, and 5.0l of pure power. The howl from engine as you floored it was unbelievable (and it didn't even break down :) ). The experience was probably made better by the fact that I had a 950cc 205 at the time.... Second to that was probably my first car, a '73 GT Beetle 1600, now there was something that taught you about cornering.... I also thoroughly recommmend driving 'old' cars if you can get your hands on them. My dad has a 1925 Chummy Austin (the first car he bought), and a 1935 Morris 8 (the first car my Grandad bought). There's nothing quite like double de-clutching while trying to slow up for a juntion with your arm hanging out of the window due to the lack of indicators :D

It's actually rather light in comparison to other cars. The official weight of mine is down as 1100kgs (From the CCGB site). A friend of mine has a 306 Rallye GTi6, super stripped out, drilled pedals, the lot; and still weighs in at 1236kgs. He was upset when I mentioned it though :)

Well I'm after a spot of history on mine, a '95 2.0l 16v. M85 XEM. Hope this is suitable on topic, but any info appreciated....

Best time to drive, nobody on the roads.... Thank god, I thought I was the only one. :D My favourite run has got to be the A59 late on a Wednesday night on the way back from Fencing. Pumped to the gills on adrenaline, at the wheel of a speeding Corrado with Choral music turned up loud (but not so loud you can't hear the engine :D :D ).

Nightmares on Wax - Very good. However, in the wallet at the moment : Carter USM - 101 Damnations Carter USM - 30 Something Nightwish - Century Child (Finnish Goth Metal with a classically trained singer and full orchestra, marvellous). Death in Vegas - Dead Elvis Bill Hicks R.E.M Out of Time Leftfield - Leftism The Big Lebowski Soundtrack Mozart - Coronation Mass Mozart - Requiem Verdi - Requiem (I cannot recommend it enough for apocalytic midnight runs) The Clash - London Calling The Prodigy - Music for the Jilted Generation Death inVegas (again) - The Cantino Sessions Portishead - Portishead Garbage - Garbage The Best of Euphoria Nina Gordon - Tonight and the Rest of my Life Veruca Salt - Resolver Carter USM (found another one) - Starry Eyed and Bollock Naked, a collection of B-sides Might be time for a clear out, but at least I know where all my CDs have gone

Think I'm gonna puke, another Lax Power "special"
TomB replied to randal's topic in General Car Chat
That's quite terrifying. The idea behind it is good however, "Bad Girls love Good Drivers" ????? I don't know how much they'll want to learn. I've never yet met a good driver of a Barry Boy shopping trolley.... -
Unfortunately I'm going to be dahn saaf for a family event and a classic car rally  Typical! I'll be back in the eveing, but probably not until about 8pm. What time are you in York until? If you're not around until that late, then I'll quite happily come and collect it at some point that's convenient to you. I went across the Pennines last week for a Sebring, I've no qualms about doing it for a roof
-
Henny that's fantastic! I'll happily take it off your hands for £40 although I have to deal with the trauma of moving house! I can pick it up from you though if you're not headed this way anytime soon. Any excuse for a drive! :D
-
What's wrong with the roof? Just about everything!! :( According to the specialist VW chap that I took it too to fix it, the lid itself is bent, the rails are twisted (although I'm not sure how accurate that assesment is) and the motor has stopped working (probably trying to move the bent lid back into place  I need to remove the headlining and have a proper go at replacing it, but there are other things that also demand money.... Any bits/or advice? Cheers, Tom

Sounds like the bible of Corrado ownership... :)
-
...but I bet it must still feel good :D

What is this Etka of which you speak? Sounds good. I'll ask Paul at the next club GTI meet. Cheers Henny, Tom

I hope this is the right forum, so here goes. Does anyone know of a site where I can get a list of part numbers in one place. I know it's possible to collate a list using the power of t'internet, however this is extremely time consuming. I'd like a list of numbers that I can take with me to the salvage yard to compare against golf/passat parts (as they haven't had any corrados in - hurrah). Things such as the rear wiper motor/sunroof parts/ interior bits etc are my main concern at the moment, but if there's a full list out there, I'd love to know where. Cheers, Tom

To be honest, I'd also question the top speed given for the 2.0l 16v. Without taking into account the inacurracies in the Speedo, mine has hit 135mph with 3 people and luggage @ approx 6,000rpm (6,200 before it starts bouncing off the rev-limiter). The only mod I can think of that might make a different is the exhaust, however, it was fitted by my local (non-specialist) garage as Corrado exhaust althought it doesn't seem to be standard. That brings up another question to mind though, is a rev-limiter a standard feature? Cheers, Tom

Massive thanks to Andy43 for the Sebring. No more space saver for me! Cheers man, Tom :D

Just to throw in my tuppence worth, despite having only had my C just over a month (a steal at just over £2K), I've driven nearly 2,000 miles in it taking it up to 159,000 miles, including taking it to Le Mans, and having it up to 135mph with 3 people & kit in it. I've spend an extra £500 in addition to the asking price for a new exhaust, repairs to the cam cover gasket, new pads, adjusting the rear wheel bearing and getting the ******* sunroof shut (that's shut, not fixed mind you), all of which were in my budget for buying a C. There are more things that need to be done, but I bought a C knowing it was going to cost me more to run than a 'normal' car. I don't want a 'normal' car! The Corrado was one of the last interesting cars that VW made... The 'new' golf (which is one fat b*stard IMHO), can't hold a candle to the looks of something like the MK2. I know I'm tempting fate here, but it looks and drives great! And just think...for the money I've spent, I could have bought one QUARTER of a new Mondeo. I think not.... Cheers, Tom

I've decided that the whole thing is too much effort for something I really wouldn't use that much (I like the sound of the exhaust note :D ), so I''m selling the changer. Have posted in the 'Parts for Sale' section if anyone is interested. Cheers, Tom
