CoxyLaad, I sympathise. I don't have windows either, and I'm buried underground in the archives. Still...as kevhaywire, pointed out, it IS dress down day
-
andihaz, it's definately under Engine Size (ah the wonders of babel fish), and it shows as a 1990 on the plate. Cheers, gents, I was rather curious... Tom

Does anyone know what the biggest official engine in a Mk2 Golf was? Just out of curiosity really. A work mate has just returned from Germany with a Postcard that he found in a pub with an excellent picture of a Mk2 2 and the stats on it. My German isn't great, but it definately says 1984ccs under engine size. I thought they only went as high as a 1800cc. Cheers, Tom

That's a plan so cunning, you could stick a tail on it and call it a weasel... Cheers, Tom

Nope, unfortunately due to the Category of the write-off I am not allowed to touch the car again, nor will it or any of it's parts be allowed onto the public highway again (according to the lady on the phone this afternoon). The whole thing goes straight to the crusher apparently  Due to recent changes in legislation, you are now only allowed to buy back Cat D write offs unless you have a breakers licence, then you are allowed to buy back Cat Cs as well. I'm going to look into this and see if I can dispute it though. Cheers, Tom

Well, now it's official, they've finally written it off, and as a Cat B  I mean yes the body panels were all knackered, but I had a massive list of parts that were salvageable. Now all I have to do is to await their pitiful excuse of an offer, laugh with derision at the paltry sum they offer me, and then await a better offer. Cat B! Rats C0cks  Still there's a Sebring that I managed to salvage off it in the 'For Sale' section. Take it easy y'all, Tom

Burn them! And then jump on the remains! FFS WHY :?:

How can I reasonably be expected to do any work......
TomB replied to kvwloon's topic in General Car Chat
At the risk of sounding like a monumental sadcase, I have an excellent program called Winwall at work that works through a list of .jpg files and displays them as backgrounds. I have 6 of my late car on there, and plenty of other Corrados, some of the 205 T16, Karmann Ghias and (ahem) Nissam Skylines  Just makes the day a little bit easier... (although I have fifteen photos of my late beauty on my backroung setup at home  ) -

How can you be reasonably expected to do any work as it's Friday :) -
Has anyone posted that on http://www.barryboys.co.uk yet? I think they should... That reminds me, I was looking at an old thread last night on there and lo and behold it had the 'Crooze Mids' Corrado (in beige?) that I seem to recall being slated on here in the 'For Sale' section a little while ago. 19 (count 'em) pages of people saying oh my what have you done to a once beautiful car? Oh yes, and the owner on there trying to defend it and challenge people to street races....

Cheers!

...but the sound can never ever compare. When we went down to Le Mans in convoy, we were going through a tunnel and everyone (TVRs, Caterhams and yours truly) were dropping it a gear just to hear the sound. I thought mine sounded quite good (windows down of course) until the 3.0l Scimitar driven by some guys that were travelling with us came past...
-
Shame I forgot to spell check it though, and managed to get the Welsh spelling of large (Llarge) in there instead of the conventional one :) Cheers for that man, Tom
-
   I was bought the whole unit by my brother and as the previously black surround was now a tasteful shade of orange, I thought I best put in the whole lot. Good idea though, can you add that in? Cheers, Tom

I've written this (complete with grainy phone-cam photos), for anyone who is getting annoyed by their cracked fog light and wants to change it. If the mods want to put in the how-to section they are more than welcome. Cheers, Tom

Absolute b*stards. Good luck with getting it fixed. I've got some Passat rear handles if they've knackered yours (although not the locking mechanism  ). Drop me a line if you need them (as they're no use to me any more). Cheers, Tom
-
Absolutely. The MK3 Golf onwards is a bit like the movies Highlander 2 & Highlander 3... Sorry, what am I talking about, there can be only one

IIRC wasn't the Golf only a 1.8l 16v? I have to say that I had a lot of respect for the 2.0l valver engine, not much power under 3k rpm, but over that (and certainly over 4k) it really started to sing. If you took it up to about 5.5K- 6K rpm, then it dropped right into the sweet spot when you shifted up.... Had a 2-stage throttle that took a bit of getting used to as well, but was very handy for not draining the fuel tank when going round town. Cheers, Tom

Walking back from lunch, and parked outside the office again was a nice tidy example of a 2.0l 16v on an 'L' plate. It looked the exact clone of my dearly departed but with only 88K miles on the clock...and it's for sale

No, not a crap offer, no offer at all! It's been nearly 2 weeks since my accident, and the car has been recovered, moved to Just Car Clinic....and abandoned. It's been sat there for over a week now with a smashed driver's window, just open to the elements, and the interior is the one bit of the car that remains in decent nick. Despite phone calls, and pointing out to them that in the event of a total loss they will be the ones losing money, they're still dragging their heels. One a more positive note however, I had a great offer from the place I buy my Bio-Diesel from last night. In the event of a buyback, they would let me keep my car there while I stripped it for no charge. This brings me to my main question. Does anyone know where I could hire/borrow some from of trailer/low loader to move the car from the Car Clinic out to the place where it would be stripped? My Passat doesn't have a tow bar, and the steering on the Corrado is knackered, so it would have to be a full transportation job. This is a purely theoretical line of thinking at the moment, however, I'd be greateful for any advice on places in Yorkshire I might be able to hire one (self drive or otherwise). Extending that line still further, I have been compiling a list of what is salvageable and wondering if there would be any interest from people on here, and if they'd be willing to turn up to take it. The black cloth interior is in good nick (although a bit muddy from the week away just before the crash). 5 15" Sebring Alloys (although at least 2 are curbed). The door cards The engine (2.0l 16v, 161K miles). I started it on Saturday when I went to replace the stereo that I removed after the crash and it still sounds great! The exhaust (less than 2 months old) The fog lights (one brand new and fitted a mere 6 days before the crash) The driver's side head light The passenger's side rear light cluster The rest of the interior (switches, dials etc) Basically, anything that isn't structural may well be salvageable. Sorry for the lenght of the post, but I'm just considering my options, and whether I could get a swarm of Corrados and owners to travel to Yorkshire to descend on the remains on my now deceased beauty for spares :) . I'd like to see the bits go to good homes and think that somewhere in a foreign car, there will be a part of it that was my Corrado  Sing out if anyone has any thoughts. Apologies for no prices btw, but seeing as how nothing is officially for sale yet, and I'm not sure if it's going to be, I'm just seeing if it would be worth it. Cheers y'all, Tom

RAC for me, although I'll be moving to the one offered by Chriss Knott as soon as it expires, as they offer full European cover as well for £50! Yes please. I've never trusted the AA since they failed to set up my account 4 times, and then after I'd had enough and told them to forget it and remove me from their lists, they tranfered the payment of my Mother's AA policy to my bank account and started illegally debiting money from my account. Best of luck, Cheers, Tom

I second that! Having just returned from a week working for the Pony Club where the weather made a green field an utter swamp, nothing tickled me more than having to tow out 2 (count 'em) BMW X5's with a tractor! :D That doesn't include of course the countless pseudo 4x4s that got stuck... The only ones that I saw that had no trouble were the Landie Defenders (of course), and the VW Toureg. I really don't like SUVs, I hope you find the culprit mon ami.... Cheers, Tom

Argh! They're doing it to taunt me! There's an L reg 'rado with Porche alloys and a non-standard exhaust parked outside my office in York! I don't see a 'raoo in ages and as soon as mine is gone, they're popping up out of the woodwork! I also saw the clone of mine a few days before the accident. A beautiful N reg 2.0l 16v with 88K miles on the clock at Sansaw park. Maybe I should get in contact with the lady and try and buy it.... Cheers, Tom

Ladies and Gents I'm really sorry.... (now with photos)
TomB replied to TomB's topic in General Car Chat
kvwloon, that's actually my passenger sitting by the side of it looking dejected. I'm the one crying behind the camera! I've spoken the the insurance people and it doesn't look like I'll be able to get much off it. I shall have a word with the garage though and see what they say  Cheers, Tom -

Unfortunately I think that I've bent the chassis, and the engine has been pushed back by the force of the impact (as I can't open the bonnet and I can see that bits are not where they are supposed to be. That and the fact that the roof has been partially crushed on the driver's side... Seriously though, would there be any chance? I'm thinking that I'd be looking at several thousand that the insurance won't cover, and I notice there's a VR6 for sale on the forum (If I sell a kidney :) ). Cheers, Tom
