  1. Yes, you will see best gains by changing both at same time, also more economical as easier to change manifold with head off anyhow. Get a big valve head and a decent 4-branch stainless manifold and you should see a fair bit extra, esp. torque wise.

  2. Looks very like my custom set up, although my cooler is about twice as tall and not quite as wide, winner.

Have you noticed that your car lost some "punch" off the throttle? I found that when I fitted the TD5 one it took longer pressurise so didnt have the same kick. Thats why I had the new one fitted.

Sorry took so long to reply, no can't say I noticed much difference tbh. As far as next mods to consider, I would say a ported / polished head together with a 4-brance would be most beneficial and give good gains. After that, I would look at fuelling, i.e. a set of red top injectors and Bosche 3.5 bar FPR.

  3. All red crystals (prof. done) with reverse lights left for obvious reasons:

Standard rears, half-tinted using CC of Canada guide:

The red lights flash orange no problems using green tinted bulbs (or you can use orange LED bulbs, but you will need to run resistors as well to get them to flash at correct speed)

If you want more pics of the white one to help you decide then let me know,

    Cheers

  4. Obviously insurance might be an issue for younger owners than me, but if/when I swap out I'm going for either an M5 or a Jag XJR. The lure of a rwd uber-saloon with 400bhp is currently pretty strong in the corozin household :)

If MkIV R32's continue to depreciate at the current rate I might consider one, but frankly a Subaru would be less money and faster.

But I'm sure that when my replacement engine is in the VR6 I'll probably fall in love with it all over again (yes - another engine)

M5's ya say, I hear you on that one

£10k now, and a LOT of car for the money.

  5. So if you have plates that don't meet current regulations but aren't German, ie incorrrect font, do you still get done by pc plod? My other car has pressed (but reflective) plates with a GB badge but German font. Is that illegal?

Yes, they will be illegal. They have to have the correct height / width of letters, spacing, correct font, not honeycomb, no flag (except EU symbol) correct relective background, name of supplier on bottom and BS mark / mark. If any of these is not applied to plates fitted you are breaking the law.

You do however, get pressed plates that meet all of the above requirements.

  6. You mean you bought it, then brought it home....

    That'd be the one1!!

to clear up a few bits as I have been doing a bit of digging myself in the last 10 days,

re-mapping i've found a company that will re-map to 246bhp and 490n/m torque thats not to be sniffed at all for £312.00

and as for the sound the 330d has a lovely low V6 grumble no mods as yet!

Looks like a good buy mate, how much did she sting ya ?

Interesting, which company is this that has quoted figures for the remap ? I know of several with pretty good reputations including DMS Automotive. However, as yours has the early 184BHP engine with the Bosch DDE4.0 ECU, the most I have seen claims for are around 230BHP at absolute max.

Although, 246BHP remapped sounds about right for the later 204BHP-engined 330D (Bosch EDC16 ECU), you they haven't gotten the figures mixed up ?

  7. BTJ - best not to argue with someone (yeti) who works at Aston Martin ;)

I am not arguing, simply stating the facts, and going on what tinternet tells me.....it has different engine parts / design, different brakes (not just diff size discs, but in fact NEW brakes which were first on road-going Aston), different interior AND finish, different wheels, different body panels (notice copious use of word "different" here), therefore I am pretty satisifed, that these cars are in fact......reasonably different.

And even if they share the same alumininium boded chassis.........they are still different

  8. I would say that is pretty good money TBH mate, you can buy the other one back, but not for 30 %, I would haggle and say £6k plus I buy it back for 20 %

Or £7k and will buy it back for 30%, either or. Did your policy have an agreed value on it at all ? If all mods were declared and it was a specialist policy, then all parts should be covered, not just if they are standard OEM.

Never accept the first offer from insurance companies anyways. You could buy it back for £1200 if they agree on the 20%, so have £4800 in your hand then make another £3-£4k on bits from it. So potentially you could end up with £8-£9k.

  9. Looks like an interesting set-up, I take it it's a G60 motor bored out to 1.9 with some sort of custom Eaton supercharger set-up off a BMW mini ? Not sure why you have the dump-valve on there though.

How did you manage to get hold of a G60 engine over there and what happened to the original G60 charger ?

  10. I've seen that video before. What they don't say in the video is that the monster 9ff engine needs to be rebuilt every 30,000km, at a cost of over £50k...

Same as an new EVO FQ-420, although rebuild bit more expensive. However, if you can afford to buy one, then you can afford to have it rebuilt every 30,000 kms.

Still, cheaper to buy than a Veyron and faster too, although perhaps not as high top speed.

  11. I wouldn't have said they are fraught with problems, but the turbo's and inlet manifolds (they swirl flaps which can break off but they can be removed) are know to be not as strong as expected, same goes for autobox. It would only be expensive if autobox (£1500) or turbo went (only expensive if turbo went and you kept driving it, if not exchange turbo only £400-ish plus fitting). Main problem caused affecting turbo is people not warming up and cooling down the diesel before thrashing the hell outta it. If it had worried me that much, I wouldn't still be considering it and I would just go for an e46 M3, but they are another £5k for a good un, and more expensive to fix if something goes wrong, and servicing and parts are more expensive, and MPG is less, and VED more etc, etc. you get the general idea :D

I will prob be looking for a post-2003 (204BHP as opposed to 185BHP) manual 330D sport with low miles in the next wee while. Nearly 300BHP and 500 ft/lbs torque from just remap, full exhaust system including downpipe and intake mods and still with 40+mpg all day long will suit me fine. :salute:

e46 330D with exhaust clips, sound good:
