to hold the strut on the top nut seems a little dodgy as its only 10mm , i dont want to snap anything :-(

you need to hold the flange while you undo the nut otherwise the hole jobby turns but without the special tool i cant see how but i'm sure someone on here has got around it

the nut that holds the the strut in at the top , its not castelated :-( in the bentley it shows the top stop/flange as having holes in it but then on another diagram it hasnt (like mine)

i'm changing my top mounts and i've fallen at the first hurdle :-( how do you hold the stop while you take the top strut nut off ?? bentley says theres a special vw tool :mad: i just cant work out how to hold the flange :-) while i undo the nut i've tried it on the ground and jacked up tia

its 147 quid cheaper than a vibratech front mount :-)

car looks nice mate, are you sure it hasnt got coilovers fitted ? top mounts for the vr are 40 quid from the stealers , this inc bearings and rubber donuts iirc they changed in 94, you probably have an abv engine code so just tell them that

exhaust on the roof ! you thinking of going under water tbh tho it does sound like you've tightened the drive up using the exhaust

put some cable ties in your glove box just in case mate , i'm sure you couldnt have tied it solid , there does have to be movement because its attached to the engine and look how much that moves, otherwise the exhaust will take all the stress more responsive ? a bit like new engine mountings ? where there isnt any give before it drives ? is the exhaust holding the engine tight :shock:

ok i did the led's in the dash switches , which werent too bad to do except the fog lights and rear heated window ones , they are a bit of a pain to put back together (the springy bullet things ) :-( looks good i just need some lower voltage led's for the window switches 1.87v , ordered some off maplins 10p each dont forget the short leg is the negative on led's :-)

18P For 12v led's from maplins code CJ66 8) only had 4 in stock so i'll order more via the web , enough to make a start

yesterday - washed n polished and picked up my top mounts from the stealers today .its raining :-(

what happens if you put it in gear and then start the car ? does the car jump?

nah , not all of them , i just rang my local stealers and the guy knew exactly what i was on about and was keen to know about the car, very knowledgable about the generic faults on the c...........which basically covers the whole of the bentley manual :-)

disconnect the battery and ignore it for a few days , you'll see things clearer , at the mo you're on overload mate if you brick the windscreen the alarm will go off ...... -
