  1. So - looks aside, the general consensus is that performance wise (as standard) they are evenly matched but the CTR is an ugly sod and the C is a timeless piece of design ;) I do like the fact that Autocar got better, albeit marginal, performance from the C - therefore still all these years on - THE BEST ALLROUNDER 8) The Words of EVO magazine: HONDA civic Type R: 0-60 6.8 + Potent and great value - Chasis lacks sparkle 4/5 stars VW Corrado 2.9 VR6: 0-60 6.2 +Still to be bettered for all round ability and appeal - Err...... 5/5 stars
  2. It sure is Corrado Soprano :) So its in the Day Today aswell!? Maybe Steve C once owned one..... cheers Nick
  3. A mate of mine told me that when watching his DVD of Knowing Me Knowing You, with Alan Partridge, he saw a C in the background! Well - I have a screengrab of it and here it is :)
  4. yeah nice one mate. The really annoying thing is that he doesnt have a CTR - he drove one once and then whenever anyone says anything good about mine he always (for some reason) pipes up and insists how a CTR will demolish the C! I wouldny mind if he were talking about an M3, 911 etc - that's proper power, agreed  silly silly
  5. Pete, I appreciate your first hand advice. I knew I wasnt going mad. I think its great that after 10 years the VR still pulls healthy punch to its rivals. The Civic OUGHT to be better given the fact that it has time and development on its side. Would be great to see what Autocar got from their test on the CTR because I am sure they rate the C better through the gears etc. EVO certainly do. They managed a 0-60 in 6.2 in the CVR and 6.8 in the CTR....
  6. so - I guess when you balance it all out they are much of the sameness in speed. He cant be right in saying that the CTR would destroy the VR. I know he does it to wind me up - envy is a very bad thing. On paper I have seen the C rated as slightly better, didnt realise that the CTR would be better around the track because all I have ever heard was that they werent happy with the handling - hence the updates to the chassis in the new model.
  7. Hi guys Every time I see my girlfriend's brother he lays abuse on my C and he crops up with the fact that the CIVIC Type R will crucify my VR6 be it in a straight line or round a track.... :!: He doesnt think that the C feels as quick but I keep trying to explain that the C is VERY torquey at all speeds/gears and that the reason the CTR feels so much quicker is that it surges as it reaches 6,500+ RPM (ie, being floored!) Does anyone here have any personal experience driving both? I have never driven a CTR and they do nothing for me but I am curious. If anyone has the autocar test then I can compare the accelerations between gears etc (using the excellent Autocar road test of the C in comparison). I always thought that the C was marginally better. I want to lay this pathetic talk to rest. I shouldnt let it bother me but I am a proud man and tired of pub talk nonsense!! Cheers Nick
  8. sold for £3.6k! apparently!!
  9. my carpets were wet - caused by a leaking foilage seal and door membranes. Make sure they are sealed and if not sort them.

    Wet Carpet!

I have fallen victim to this too, dammit! It seems that the leak is from the foliage cover too. I also have a lot of mosture near the centre and in the back footwell passenger side but cant believe that it is still from the foiliage. I foolishly took mine off to fit a pollen filter and the seal has never been the same. I have just literally cut a square of Dymanat and created my own seal under the foliage tray. I noticed that my foam was perished and wet but I left it there. I have just put the cover back on and will investigate more tomorrow. Matt, to take the foliage cover off you must pry off the single lug - the other two just push in but the individual one (nearest the passenger wing) must be prised apart and simultaneously pushed towards the wing. I use a flathead screwdriver - you will notice that the clip is a u-shaped one. stick the screwdriver between the clip and push towards the clip. Does any of that make sense!?? :?
  11. do you have to declare stainless systems to your insurance co?
  12. dr_mat, OEM is the best.. Quality of fit and finish are superb. Lasts 5-8 years Couldn't agree more, had my MOT yesterday - passed with no probs - my OEM exhaust is now 10 years old and still not a prob.
  13. jims16v, I couldnt agree more! :thumb right:
  14. dr_mat, I agree with you actually - I have definitely had varying results with Optimax. I have been told that Optimax doesnt retain it's Octane level so perhaps if a station has an old supply it wont be as potent as one with a fresh one. I tend to pop in about £15 a time in case that's true! Have used the Ultimate twice now and all I can say is TIP TOP!! :)
  15. Cheers mate! What Tattie_G60, says rings a bell. When I first bought mine, I thought I had the same prob as you but it turned out that my clutch pedal was catching on the mat - which wasn't being secured.
  16. Thanks guys - nice one Roddy! :D There are a few stone chips but really not many - no respray for sure. I know the previous owner and the car has a total history. Completely orig and def no bonnet spraying - promise :) By the way - the guy who took the Alfa GTX along was a race driving instructor at Goodwood and kept saying how much he rated the C as a brilliant track car too.
  17. Matt GTi wrote: I want to keep it as standard as possible. Don't get sucked in mate! - keep her as Karmann intended ;)
  18. I just used Ultimate after always having previously used Optimax. Well - either its purely psychological or the Ultimate is MILES better than Optimax. Really responsive and well... I don't know what to say! RECOMMENDED!! Seems to idle far smoother with Ultimate, I am sure it isnt my imagination!! :?
  19. is it really necessary to change the belt tensioner?? I thought they were good for life, like the chain?
  20. nice one - cheers :) should be fine as it was so concise
  21. DEL VR6, I had one of those dents in the crease a while back - I used Axi-Dent - phenomenal work - straight as anything now :)DEL VR6,
  22. no they didn't - what really p***ed me off is that they did a 6 or so minute piece on the new Fiat Panda - I mean, come on!!!!!! No - I actually wanted them to take it round the track to see what it could do. Seemed pointless having it in the studio to be honest!
