  1. I wont change them then, Kev as they are about 7months old - I will just threadlock them, I think! Any idea what the torque setting is, or is that not particularly important. Also - is it a particulary hard job? Anything I should do in particular?
  2. that's an INNER Cv joint btw!
  3. just received my new CV joint kit and was expecting to have some CV joint bolts with the kit but haven't. Do I need to change the bolts on the kit or can I just do it all up with threadlock?? The dealer tells me that I dont need to change the CV boot bolts as they aren't stretch ones but I though they were stretch bolts. Anyone tell me if the dealer is right or wrong? Do I insist on new bolts or just use threadlock?
  4. TRUE TRUE! what I got tired of was the mechanic reasoning his mistake by saying "In all honesty we don't see many of these cars"..... pathetic
  5. yeah - I suppose it does make sense. I had just got a set of pristine refurbed wheels and went to check that they were balanced at a wheel centre in NE London and they damaged one of the rims on the balancing machine!!! Now it has to be refurbed, they will pay but I am not confident that it will match - it could l look stupid!
  6. think they did mine but the lettering on the speedlines is nowhere near as sharp as they were originally. I bought them off someone though - any idea how much they charge at Pristine?
  7. when they repainted the wheels were the letter markings still sharply visible (ie manufacturers stamp etc) or had they become softer after powdercoating?
  8. Did it last night on the ramps! Took 2 hours as I was being a perfectionist but all in all a really satisfying job! Cheers :)
  9. Found out what the knocking was..... THE INNER CV joint on the drivers side. You can tell by spinning the drivers side wheel - it knocks with every rotation. This is probably why it is more noticeable at slow speeds! NOW - I will tell you a story.... Some time ago I had my local stealership replace my clutch on a private job - very cheaply. All was good until I was tinkering under the car one day and noticed that all of the bolts on the inner CV joint boot were loose. I mean they were coming out!! They had actually split the rubber and the grease had all gone. I was lucky I noticed it. Anyway - I kicked up a fuss and they weren't willing to help much as it was a private job, but they agreed to replace the rubber boot..... Anyway - I guess the lack of grease actually damaged the CV joint so I had better change that asap.... I have a pic of the loose bolts and damaged gaitor somewhere, must show it. Anyway - dont bother getting work done at the stealers!!
  10. no - they are def stock mate - I think I was just very unlucky - I guess these things happen. Thanks for the immediate response and replacing it. Really nice to know that you care about what you sell! Top man!! :)
  11. Thanks guys - yeah the tapping kind of worked but it flicked back on again. Was quite melted! :( Thanks for sorting a replacement Gavin!
  12. I have just noticed that the main beam (headlights only - not rears) is on permanently!! With the headlight switch in the off position or even removed!! So it can't be the switch. Any ideas what I can do?I have an aftermarket loom that has been fitted for about 8 months. Is there a prob with the loom? As I say it is only the fronts and they must be draining directly from the batt! I have no idea how this happened tbh! Hope I can get some guidance asap - cheers! :)
  13. will have a fiddle tomorrow! cheers guys I may just get them balanced and that way I can rule out the wheels being a problem
  14. That's the wierd thing. They are another set of Speedlines just refurbed. I don't know if the tires could just be a harder compound and therefore noisier making a "knocking sound" ? The tyres are BF Goodrich, the old ones were Goodyear.
  15. the rims look utterly round and the bolts are tight :( :? I suppose I could get the wheels balance JUST to be sure!?
  16. I have a wierd knocking/whirring sound coming from my bl**dy car now!! Whilst on the move... Not mechanical but seems to come from the suspension side of things. Can bearings knock?? It can be felt through the floor but not the steering wheel. coincidentally this is after fitting a set of refurbed alloys and new tyres. I thought they may be imbalanced but it seems that I get no vibration through the wheel but rather a knocking (vibration) though the car! This is only noticeable at slow speeds by the way!...
  17. yeah - I am sorry was being very thick
  18. sorry :-s I take it they are in the head, right?
  19. are these valves in the manifold or downpipe?
  20. For me it is BP Ultimate that cuts the mustard. I haven't been that chuffed with Optimax tbh - it certainly does vary from tank to tank! The trouble with Ultimate is that it is harder to find and a little costlier. Have you noticed that Ultimate gives more MPG (I have) - car seems to idle better.
  21. Yeah - I bet  will have a look just to get an idea but will leave it until the day the shocks need doing I think. Thanks! :)
  22. what can be done about it? Is it old age? It is wierd - the car has never had any knocks and the tyres don;t wear out unevenly/ nor do I get wobbly steering. Any ideas where to start looking for culprits? Thanks :)
  23. to be honest with you it does pull to the left a bit, and I guess I am holding the wheel to the right - is that to do with the castor
  24. I heard that Sainsbury's are now supplied by BP - is this true!??? I noticed that at the sainsbury's in Teddington they were offering Super Unleaded as well as regular!
  25. yeah I guess I am a total pain ita - it was always dead square though before and can't see how it could move away :?:
