    Noise question

thats the way I do it, but you need to make sure the bearing hasn't undone itself a bit either. I would say that they do need checking again after running them for a few miles.

    Noise question

bearing noise typically occurs between 40 and 60 mph in my experience. tyre noise possibly?

    Noise question

does it sound like wheel bearing noise? goes away when turning left or right? Genuine bearings done up properly, not too tight? Bearings pressed in properly or with a hammer?
  4. just read the latest info from qpeng. All sounds very promising and cheap. I run qpeng on my 20v and cant fault it. If the kit they have developed for the tfsi is as good as they say, then it will make this conversion alot easier. In that case, all you need to worry about is putting it in.... I've done a few engine conversions and have just finished a haldex conversion on a rallye, and I still think the tfsi conversion is a pretty big task from an install point of view
  5. I know it's a pain because I've tried doing it! The stand alone stuff doesn't work the high pressure injection system to the same degree, if at all, as the standard ecu. That is what makes the engine special. The standard ecu will be an absolute anus to wire in without all the clever stuff the phirm has connected. If you use that it all comes down to money. I've tried putting in a 2.0 tfsi engine into a Corrado, and its not easy. Firstly none of the original mounts can be used, so it's custom mounts to begin with. Custom driveshafts, exhaust, pipework etc etc. Then the wiring.... By all means try it, but we decided quite quickly that it would be a money pit and a long process.
  6. It's not that simple. The ecu is connected to every other electrical system in the car, and if one of them isn't working then it messes everything up. Stand alone management is the easy option, but then the tfsi part is not there then
  7. It can be done, but it is a ballache! There will probably be some stand alone management available in the near future, but that will compromise the fuel efficiency you talk of. Lots of fabrication required and is not a challenge for someone who hasn't done a conversion before. A good knowledge of the vw parts catalogue and a friendly TPS or dealer are essential for this sort of conversion
  8. Shame you can't bring it down for me, would love to help you out. We can fix anything at SMVW
  9. now get out! I'm not jealous or anything!
  10. 36k is the most basic boxster you can buy. it comes with literally an engine and seats! I just wasted some time and configured one of each to roughly the same spec, and the porsche was 42k and the vw 33k. the porsche has very little standard equipment. 5mm wheel spacers are £235 for example! so I don't buy the arguement that could buy a brand new boxster for 6k more than a new scirocco. Its a top of the range vw vs the lowest of the low porsche, hardly a fair comparison in my opinion

    1.8t 6 speed

You need to get them shortened. Which shafts and cv joints are u using?
  12. well halifax are investigating the dispute so all we can do is wait. To be honest, I really do want the bonnet. Not looking likely though!
  13. people have trying to get hold of them since mid july with no success. also a business on the same industrial park has issued a statement on its website about not being affiliated with performance trim, and that they have ceased trading from their unit. the holding company, mulsanne cars, is listed on an insolvancy website. all in all, its not looking good. if they were on holiday, the very least I would expect would be a message on an answer phone, or a statement on the website.
  14. well I've logged a dispute with halifax, so lets see what happens. Had a look on an insolvency list and it seems thats the holding company for performance trim is listed there, so I think its a done deal. Feel for the guys who used paypal and can't get there money back. Think I would be taking a ride down there if that was my position. Luckily I do all my online transactions via credit card, although this is the first issue I've ever had. The annoying thing is I'm sure that they will start up under another name and carry on, forgetting all the people they have stitched up on the way.
  15. Where are you and what software are you using?
  16. I paid by credit card, so I need to get onto that. Is there any way we can actually find out if they have folded? At the moment it seems to be hear say. I suspect it is true, but it would be nice to know officially
  17. Yeah I just went on to edition and found those threads, not cool. Gutted as I should have put that money into my house deposit fund but I needed/wanted a new bonnet and decided to splash out on a carbon/GRP one. Lets se if I can get the money back via my credit card
  18. that would be rigt handy! especially as they have £500 of my money
  19. I've been trying to get hold of performance trim for about a week now with no luck. Both via email and phone. I've got a bonnet on order and was wondering where it was! Anyone managed to speak to them recently or know if there is a reason I can't get hold of them? Holiday/shutdown perhaps? Nothing on the website that confirms that idea. I've tried the office number and the mobile number given on the website, although I've not left a voicemail on the mobile yet. Any ideas would be nice, Regards, Rob
  20. The problem I can see with having sat nav down there is it's not exactly easy or safe to look at. When it's on the screen it's much easier to glance at while driving
  21. I use a vr6 one on my 20v with the same numbers you want.
  22. Is that car not on here?! Pretty sure there is/was a g60 turbo on here done by jabba
  23. Personally I don't think anything is wrong with them. That's my opinion though
  24. I wouldn't go there! They take 5mins to fit when the old ones are out
  25. The rear bench goes in easily enough. You really do want the bottom brackets from a Corrado to weld in though, makes life easier. The Corrado seats are narrower than golf seats, so there is a gap down the sides between the seat and doorcard.
