Cheers mate - I'll give them both a call.

Alright boys Not been on here for a while as I sold my VR to my old boy. It's great to see the forum as active as ever though. I spent thousands on my VR and essentially replaced 75% of the car (Full engine re-build, Schrick + 268s, Bilstein coilovers, Powerflex bushes, Milltek etc....) - that said, I never managed to solve the stalling problem. I just learned to live with it. My dad on the other hand can't handle it. He's forever going on about a re-map. It was originally mapped at Dudsport by an independent bloke - can't remember his name... Can anybody recommend a decent re-mapper in the North West? - I know Stealth is always an option but I'm looking for something a bit closer to home. Cheers, Adam

Joe M - Dubsport did the rolling road for me after they fitted the Schrick and 268's. I'm going to get it done again as she feels a lot smoother following the rebuild. I'm hoping for an improvement on the previous figures... I need to scan the plots in and upload them but I'm unable to do it for some reason - It's frustrating particularly because I've been an IT consultant for the past 4 yearrs!! -

My VR was in the high 90K's when I last had it on the rolling road. She's currently on 110K although a full rebuild (costing me over £2k!!) was completed about 2k miles ago. As per Kev's comment above - the reduced torques levels observed may be due to your engines age / mileage. Dubsport are based in Wigan - I'd turn off the M6 at Coventry before you get there and head to Stealth in all honesty. Geoff at Dubsport is a legend but the other mechanics aren't at the top of their game. Nice lads but too prone to making (potentially dangerous) schoolboy errors i.e. leaving my wheel loose (close to coming off at 80mph on the M6!), leaving my steering wheel loose after 4 wheel realignment etc. They have replaced some of the mechanics though in their defence. -

Dubstar - I've got essentially the same set up as you (Schrick and BMC instead of VSR and Carbonio though) and I got 220bhp and 230lb's of torque. The torque band looked similar to the above though i.e. the intial peak then the stereotypical lag before the 268 cams kick in. I've had a full rebuild approximately 2000 miles ago so I need to take her down to dubsport to see what the current figures are as the ones above are approximately 12 months old. -
And further to the above - the BMC is a cracking piece of kit. I couldn't believe the difference; I'm always sceptical about the alleged increases in power / torque etc but I can honestly say I was pleasantly surprised. I gave one of those mazda RX8's a run for it's money down some country back roads - the mazda surprised me actually; it handled very well although I read somewhere that they have 50-50 weight distribution or something.

Fitted and sorted! I hacked up the old filter cone as i couldn't get hold of any hosing. I called Stealth and they apologised for the mix up and have dispatched the correct adaptor. I'll replace my DIY job when it arrives. For the record, I wasn't calling the Stealth boys B*stards! It's just my own frustration - nothing ever seems to be straightforward and I wonder why I've spent nearly £12,000 on her (and that's excluding the buy price!!!!) Cheers again for all your help.
-
B*stards! They've sent me the wrong adaptor. I'll get on the blower (excuse the pun) to them now. Cheers
-
Cheers for response although the adaptor is hard plastic - it won't soften in boiling water. Do you think they've given me the wrong piece of kit?.... I've got a photo but i'm having difficulty attaching it to my message! (can you only attach messages from an HTTP address?)
-
Apologies for being incompetent but can someone please advise how i'm supposed to fit the BMC CDA? The engine side opening of the CDA doesn't appear to fit the air intake from the engine - i assumed the adaptor would overcome this but i've assumed wrong! I bought the kit from Stealth so i should have all the necessary components. Cheers, Adam

you should have seen it Kev - with every gear change there was a massive plume of blue smoke. It really detracted from the coolness of the VR. I'll scan the figures in soon - the graph has 4 plots relating to original, with schrick(s) and the "in between" i.e. when Dubsport f'd up with the cam sensor polarity thing. What's the craic with the Quaife? Worth throwing more money at her? IT does pay too well!
-
At Dubsport's old site in Parbold, Lancs. I will scan the plot in as the torque band is quite impressive as well. I'm thinking about doing it again as I've just had a full engine rebuild (£2200!!) and she's already clocked 1000 miles. I'll fit the BMC, give it another 500 to a 1000 miles and then put it on the rolling road again. I suspect it should be about the same but there are no guarantees - it feels a lot smoother and more responsive now though as cylinders 1 and 6 are no longer burning 3 litres of oil a month!!
-
I might have an issue fitting the air feed as Dubsport bolted my Schrick manifold vacuum unit to the base of the standard airbox. I'll probably have to bend the already bent tube around it... Who did your rolling road? I got 220bhp with a schrick and 268s; it was a custom map though as opposed to a Star remap.
-
Nice one mate - I'm fitting mine this weekend so I'll also report back on any noticeable differences. Are you going to continue using the cold air feed or will you revert back to sounding like Airwolf?
-
End of the month, Inheritance pay outs etc. :)
-
cheers mate - the bank manager ain't a fan mind you... :(
-
Dubsport. Labour charges came in at around £800 - does this seem reasonable? She needed a few other bits including a new alternator, exhaust manny, front tyre, cv joint. It still suffers from the old chestnut that is the VR6 stalling at a junction... I'm taking it back after 500 miles for a check over and they reckon they'll sort it then.... I ain't convinced.
-
....after much deliberation, I went for the 12v rebuild. £2200 later and she's finally back on the road and i'm amazed at how smooth she feels. It really is like driving a new motor. I'm wearing it in at the moment so i can't really determine any power gains / losses. The BMC is going on in a few weeks as well once I've done over a thousand miles. I can't compare my rebuild to a 24v conversion but I'm more than happy that it's still stock and more importantly still produces that VR6 growl :D

The group buy sounds good mate. I've seen what i'm assuming is a compatible BMC on the following sites: http://www.europerformance.co.uk/pages/ ... l?id=63990 (for Golk VR6) http://www.motorsportworld.co.uk/frame- ... ilters.htm (this site mentions that some 'tailoring of the kit' may be required) http://www.motorspeed.com/store_main.as ... gory_id=55 Any help from you guys with a BMC fitted would be much appreciated. Cheers
-
I'm going to get involved with a BMC after reading the above and ditch the current JR cone fitted almost a year ago. I'm assuming it's the same kit for both the 2.8 and 2.9 VR engines?... Anyone know the cheapest online store to get on from as well please? Cheers, Adam
-
Quite possibly Gareth - i'm waiting for a quotation as i type...... Watch this space!
-
I would never do such a thing!......
-
Actually one further point regarding insurance - do you think insurance companies log enquires about significant engine modifications? (apologies for temporarily stealing this thread) Cheers
-
Jay - i started a similar thread addressing VR engine rebuild or replacement and you've just sold it to me mate. I'm going for the R32! Cheers!
