Man, this is driving me up the wall. I'm so grateful that they did a rolling road before hand as this has provided me with the evidence that there were no issues before they started messing around. I reckon that the guy who is reprogramming it has balls'd it up - it must be an ECU / electronic issue. What does re-programming entail? do they delete the existing program and start from scratch? or do they just modify? Help!

The latest......(I'm slowly losing my mind on this one. ) Tuesday - Week 2 It's apparently mechanically perfect. The cylinder valves were checked and they were fine. The CPS was checked. The wiring from the CPS was checked. The list of what's working correctly goes on.... BUT IT STILL LOSES POWER AROUND THE 4000RPM MARK!! :onfire: They're stuck for ideas and i'm scr3wed if i know what they should do next. I'm losing sleep now over the inevitable labour charge - can someone please help so i can RIP...... Cheers
-
Dr_Mat - IRONY detected and appreciated!
-
Taxi to Stealth it may well be..... I'm just hoping it's the CPS / tooth mis-timing. Keep those fingers crossed for me lads - I'll need it. Cheers again to everyone for their advice.

"call back tomorrow" - just got that old chestnut from them.... To be continued.....
-
Christ alive - sounds like there's more to this than meets the eye. Can anyone provide me with an indication as to how much it's likely to cost to resolve this issue (assuming it's the oil control ring)? The oil indicator light and alarm did activate on the drive up to dubsport so this further reinforces the aforementioned theories....
-
Cheers Kev - yet more 5 star advice there. I'll relay to dubsport and get back to all. Cheers

I put about 3 litres in about a month ago - they told me they had to put a further 3 litres in when they opened her up. I do about 200 miles a week - and thats over 2 trips i.e. friday night and sunday night. Is this normal usage?

Very constructive remarks from all. This is the latest.... They think it could be an issue with Cylinder 6 and hope to have a response to me by the end of today. The car has been using a high volume of oil recently - I have been unable to detect any leaks from the block itself. Could one of the cyclinders have leak? i.e. is oil being burnt which is consequently reducing power output? There might be an issue with the ring or one of the valves.... Any ideas? The labour charge is going to be contentious - my feelings are summarised below: 1. The car produced 195bhp before they touched her 2. The car produced 155bhp with the schrick manifold + cams 3. The car produced 170bhp when they put the stock manifold and cams back on.... Something happened between 1. and 3. which they must accept responsibility for. What do you think? Cheers

Cheers for that Keyhaywire - i'll email that info to them. dr_mat - They are remapping the existing ecu. Is it worth buying a piggy back ecu?

Point taken re dubsport. Whatever happened to customer service as well? i have to phone them on a daily basis to get an update; shouldn't the business phone the customer?..... From the above, i think it's the solenoid that might not be working - it could have been damaged in transit. I'm going to call them again and suggest the above. Watch this space..... Thanks again mate
-
Thanks Kevhaywire for this - i've just relayed the info to the guy who answers the phone. He said he'd communicate the suggestion to the mechanic. They'll hopefully investigate although quite frankly i'm not convinced...... I also mentioned your comment above re the ford part and all he could tell me was that it was a 2-valve part from a Golf?...

Hi, Dubsport have spent the last week trying to get my recently acquired Schrick VGI to function properly and they've just told me they are still have difficulty. On the remap - it's running fine up until about the 3500 rpm mark when there's a sudden loss in power / torque. They think it could be a faulty valve so they're currently fitting a valve from a Mk4 1600 Golf which is apparently the same? Any info would be really appreciated as it's driving me mad. Cheers, Adam

I had the same problem with my VR - Geoff at Dubsport solved the problem for about £40. That guy is a genius. It was a faulty component on my Throttle Body; I'm not sure what the component is called but it essentially serves as an absorber (like a shock absorber) when the revs drop right down. It ensures a progressive & smooth drop in revs to prevent the engine from cutting out. This might be the problem? Good luck either way.

kevhaywire - what effect do the 268s have on low rpm pick up? I'm told they move the benefit of the VGI to 2500 - 3500. How accurate is this ?
-
i'm getting some 268 cams in the next week or so - it's probably advisable to fit them with the VGI and then go for the remap. Do you agree? More specifically - do i need to buy a piggy back chip/ecu ?
-
I've just got myself a vgi manifold from the states and now need to understand what i will need to do regarding remaps / piggy back chips or ECU's ? Can anyone help ? Also - noiticed last night that my front discs are shot to pieces. I'm keen on some vented / crossed drilled replacements. Any tips would be really appreciated i.e. Type, cost, where to purchase from etc. Cheers.
-
Kevhaywire - any idea why my VR6 stalls approx 4 times a week. The battery / alternator light very occasionally flickers and It tends to cut out when i've come off a motorway onto the slip road. Any thoughts ?
-
So what's the best option then - VGI or VSR ? or are the differences insignificant ?.....
-
Joe M - cheers for the vote! When do you intend to sell them and for what price?..... Kevhaywire - yet more constructive advice which has swung me back to the vgi. I'd like to respect the engine and not necessarily expose it to the force of the charger. When i mentioned 0-60 i was actually refering to 30-90 i.e. mid range. I'm sick of TT drivers pulling away from me :x

gibber 2k - a mini corrado rally sounds good. Are you based in Wigan ? We'll arrange something soon - next couple of weeks maybe? (mailto:[email protected]) kevhaywire - cheers for the comprehensive breakdown. Just to clarify, you HAVEN'T got a supercharger have you ? i.e. just the vgi, cams, enlarged throttle + re-map. Cheers to everyone for their input - bl00dy good advice!
-
gibber - sounds good although i'd need to get quotes from the likes of dubsport / extreme GTI etc for labour charges for fittting it without committing to anything. More importantly, the lack of a warranty which i would get from a manufacturer if bought from new could be an issue.
-
kevhaywire - the vz2 supercharger.....how much ? who's best to do it? (in the North) any decent www links ? ps nice clean straight looking motor, i like the wheels.
-
Supercharger is still winning - jedi knight, give me some more ammo as my original personal preference (the manifold) is losing. Corradovr6sc - what performance do youget out of the zr2 ? 0-60 specifically.
-
Supercharger v's Schrick..... so it's 2-1 so far to the supercharger. What about the excess pressure on an engine clocking 90K ? Insurance? Increased Petrol Consumption?
