Could be an oil leak, especially if the oil seal was changed... Either that or inferior quality clutch maybe.

I knew there was something highly dodgy about Storm from the first post you made about taking your car there. I had no prior knowledge of them. You've had a very duff experience by the sounds of it. I bet they've taken the head off, put the chain back on a tooth out, charged you for unecessary work and ignored the real issue. Dreadful service. People on here need to be warned. Hope you get it all sorted out soon.

That picture makes me laugh every time!

The lugs that are there to hold the thing down are really brittle plastic and puny, they may have broken off, 3 out of 4 of mine have!

I've got a Vibratechnics front engine mount, cost £150 ish, takes max half hour to fit. Tightens everything up, you cant feel the engine move if you put your foot down suddenly, gearchange quality is improved, by that I mean the clutch action feels nicer without the engine moving around. No extra harshness that I have noticed. I think VF is another make....someone will confirm I'm sure.

If you stick a 24V in don't you need to weld a new firewall in like Jay Renshaw did, or was that more by choice to get Mk4 pedal box working. I'd be quite happy with the mechanical and electrical aspects but I'm not into welding....yet Is there a definitive guide anywhere as to exactly what needs changing to get the 24V in.

That engine really is 2 VR6s moulded together. Awesome stuff. How ever much did that factory cost I wonder?

If its just for weekends or low mileage (5k) and its between the Honda and TVR, its easy. TVR all the way. If you wanted to use it everyday then the Honda would be the "sensible" option but if its only 5k a year then you don't need a sensible car. Think of the gggrrrrooowwwwllll!

Car going in for MOT... good luck needed!!!!!
andy replied to corradorocks's topic in General Car Chat
Both the Corrados I have owned have passed their first MOTs with me straight through, after much bricking by myself. Positive thoughts on way. -
Hi Matt, I'm sure you said in another thread that you specifically requested that the clutch wasn't done as part of this work as money was tight at the time. However I appreciate that you may have declined this because you hadn't realised how much duplicate labour would be involved to change it a later date. The extra labour to change the bottom chain is minimal with the gearbox off, if you are referring to getting the gearbox off to change the clutch then there is virtually no extra labour, the labour in changing the bottom chain IS getting the gearbox and clutch out of the way. If the bottom chain worries you, get it done by storm free of charge, it won't be the root of your current problems but could be a chance to have a new clutch fitted free of charge. Personally I wouldn't bother, the bottom chain should be fine and the clutches last ages. Get your flat spot sorted, then enjoy the car, you've had nothing but grief so far! If, some time in the future your clutch gives out, worry about it then and get the bottom chain done at the same time.

The fact of the matter is that when you took your car to them it was running ok (the only symptom was a slightle rattle from the chains which they diagnosed), the car ran without fault. Now you have had engine work done by them your car does not run properly, you have a flat spot. They have created your flat spot. They are to blame. They have not done a satisfactory job. Personally although I think its half a job to only replace the top chains, I wouldn't worry unduly about the bottom chain, they don't break, the tensioners don't wear as a rule etc etc. I don't believe for an instant that the problem you have is anything whatsoever to do with the condition of your bottom chain, not a chance imo. On one hand I think they owe you something, on the other hand I'd be reluctant to let them near it. Perhaps a refund of some kind would at least offset your costs at Stealth to have the job done properly.

Awesome cars, a more than worthy replacement here's my mates old one.
-
To do the tappets you need the camshafts out, to get the camshafts out you need to take the sprockets (and hence the top chain) off. You wouldn't actually need to remove the chain, but you would need to disconnect it from the camshaft sprockets temporarily

They are 135 mm or 5 1/4 inches if you prefer! A lot of people on here have bought audioscape door pods which allow you to fit 165mm speakers which will give you a fair bit more clout than the original size. I've got focal 135s that are nice quality but not nearly pokey enough for my liking!

Indeedy :-) I can see some incorrect up-tree barking going on here thats all!

see what I mean?

Hmm. Kind of. There's a lot of talk in this thread about adjusting and readjusting fueling. See Matts last post. If they have replaced the Lambda sensor then it should be ok now. There isn't any adjustment beyond the Lambda sensor and the ECU...is there.
-
Yep, discussed but not answered by the looks! Its not possible to adjust the fuelling is it.....hmmm Agree with Phat, sounds like the Cam Timing is out, thought that from the start. I think Matts confidence in Storm or whoever they are is misplaced, sounds like a clusterf*ck to me.
-
Nope. You can't change the chain without getting the gearbox off. This is the point. Even with the head off. How exactly did they adjust your fuelling???

Corrado Spotting! Was it you? [Archive January 06]

Red one in Bordon yesterday lunchtime...anyone? -
Good point that man!
-
I've never changed one and had no problems, didn't realise they were only £7 though!
-
Easy job to change, 10 mins max. You can pick them up pretty cheap, £10 or £20 on here/ebay. I'd be surpised if the motor and switch were both kaput. Its more likely to be one or the other. If one of them is burnt out you need to know why too, if your sunroof mechanism is seized then a new motor may well burn out too.

Its pretty unheard of imo to replace only the top timing chain parts, if you go to the hassle of taking the gearbox off etc to change the top chains/tensioners then it just seems silly not to replace the lower chain parts. I changed mine last year and whilst there was no obvious wear on the lower parts, it was about a £100 for all the lower chain parts genuine VW. There was no visible wear on the clutch either but for a further £100 I had a genuine VW clutch in. The car runs like a dream. Its just not worth taking that much apart and not replacing things imo. It would be like reconditioning a cylinder head and putting old spark plugs back in, you just wouldn't do it.
